Speaking of parties, I’d like to thank our staff, managers, friends, families and residents who attended our ‘Belmont Bonanza’ making it a great success. We all had a wonderful afternoon, especially my son, Matt, who was dancing away the entire time! I would also like to thank the team here who participated in the Alzheimer’s Association’s ‘Casual for a Cause’ annual fundraising program. That’s why many of you saw us wearing jeans instead of our business attire or uniforms. It was a fun way to raise money for the crucial research needed to fight Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Speaking of fundraising, we still have Ashley’s Angels wristbands available. You can ask me for more information about Ashley and her progress or to donate and get a wristband in her support. We’d like to sell them all and get the proceeds to her as soon as possible, and thank you to those of you who have already been so generous. On a personal note I recently took a trip back to my alma mater, The University of Arizona, for the first time in 14 years. While it was fun to see a Wildcats football game, experience the college atmosphere again and reconnect with old friends, it also provided me a moment to reflect on where I am now. When I graduated I did not expect to work in senior living. In fact, like many at that stage in life, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for a career at all! However, I am so glad events unfolded the way they did, and here I am almost seven years later with the same great company doing something I love. Belmont Village is truly a unique place to work as each day we get to help, play, serve and live through life’s ups and downs right along with our residents and their families, and for that I am grateful and happy to be here.

Breast cancer is a disease inwhich malignant (cancer) cellsform in the tissues of the breast. Itdiffers by individual, age groupand even the kinds of cells withinthe tumors themselves.
Remember, breast cancerdoesn’t affect only women. Thisdisease can affect men as well.Hearing the words “breast cancer”doesn’t always mean an end. Itcan be the beginning of learninghow to fight, getting the facts andfinding hope.
Here at Belmont Village, wetake pride in ensuring ourresidents’ optimum level ofhealth. We are here to help you
schedule examinations with yourdoctor to help prevent!!!
Prevention Is the KeyBreast Cancer prevention
begins with various factors youcan control. For example:
• Limit Alcohol: The morealcohol you drink, the greateryour risk of developingbreast cancer. If you chooseto drink alcohol limityourself to no more than onedrink a day.
• Control your weight: Beingoverweight or obese increasesthe risk of breast cancer.
• Get plenty of physicalactivity: Being physicallyactive can help you maintaina healthy weight. for mostadults, the Department ofHealth and Human Servicesrecommends at least 150minutes a week of moderateaerobic activity in addition tostrength training exercises atleast twice a week.
• Discontinue hormonetherapy: long term hormonetherapy increases the risk ofbreast cancer.
• Avoid exposure toenvironmental pollution:Some research suggests a linkbetween breast cancer andexposure to the polycyclicaromatic hydrocarbonsfound in vehicle exhaust andair pollution.

Neighborhood
The neighborhood has beenbusier than ever! In addition toour structured Typical Day, wehave added some great fun and
stimulating activities. Every otherWednesday our residents
participate in Drum Circle! Herethey can learn rhythm and gainself confidence by encouraging
each other to participate. We havealso improved morning exerciseclasses which are now led by our
fabulous physical therapydepartment.
Bud and Maryon with Buddy!
Pet therapy is yet another activityenjoyed by our Neighborhood

emotional, and mental benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety
and increasing a sense of calm.
