• He used the Arkansas National Guard to turn away the nine African American students.

MLK and Malcolm X• We are going to create a Venn Diagram based on

the similarities and differences of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.

• To begin, draw two overlapping circles on your notes.

• One side is facts relating ONLY to MLK and the other are facts ONLY about Malcolm X.

• In pairs, one person will read about MLK and the other will read about Malcolm X.

• After you are done, you will share your portion of the diagram with your partner.

• Together, you will come up with their similarities and write them in the overlapping circle.

Autobiography of Malcolm X• As you know, Malcolm X had very radical

beliefs of separatism and equality.

• His views and practices are extremely different than other black activists at the time (MLK, Rosa Parks, etc.)

• We will now read excerpts from his autobiography and answer some questions.
