Social Media Impacts Student’s Oppor-
tunities in College! What you put out on social media really does matter!
Recently, several college coaches tweeted about pro-
spective athletes that they passed up due to what they
saw on the students’ social media pages.
Students are losing scholarships, opportunities to play
and even jobs due to poor decisions in what they
post, share or Tweet! Think about the “brand” you
are putting out when you share via social media!

PJH Student Council
PJH Student Council collected
change this spring in order to help
save lives. Junior High and high
school students joined forces to col-
lect money for the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. This organization is partnered with
Olive Garden, Burlington, Bank of
America, TASC, and Urban Trampo-
line Park. Student Council members led the
drive by encouraging students to col-
lect change from friends, family,
neighbors, and businesses. Their
motto was: Collect change to help
CHANGE A LIFE. The drive lasted from April 18th
to May 2nd.

show for the students. Students
were then given the opportunity to
purchase and assemble their own

The BHS One-Act Play did not advance this year,
but a shout out goes to Zack Sprayberry who was select-
ed to the all star cast and Dawson Shaw who was select-
ed honorable mention all star cast. The cast performed
"The Last Round-Up of the Guacamole Queens" at
North McKinney High. The students did indeed repre-
sent Bells High School and themselves well, growing
and stretching themselves to become believable charac-
ters as well as a strong ensemble. Mr. Bill Wheeler di-
rected the one-act play this year.
Students Earn $500 for BHS The Taco Bell Foundation very much supports students
graduating from high school! Their “Graduate for
Mas”-or Graduate for more- program, challenges stu-
dents to take an online pledge to finish high school.
Once students take the pledge they have an account set
up on the website which allows them to earn prizes for
taking part in various educational activities designed to
help students with post-secondary plans. There is a na-
tionwide competition along with this program with
grand prizes such as having a celebrity principal for a
day or a dance hosted by a celebrity DJ. To promote the
program, they provide schools with a countdown to
graduation clock. Our clock is displayed on the stage in
the BHS Commons.
The Taco Bell Foundation awards a $500 grant to
schools which have at least 30% of their student body
take the pledge. BHS students gladly did so and Bells
High School will soon receive a check for $500! That
money will be used to encourage students in their aca-
demic pursuits. Students who took the pledge also
earned free coupons for tacos from Taco Bell.
Round Two of “Who Can Knock It Out of
the Park” As BHS students geared up for EOC’s in algebra, biolo-
gy, and U.S. History, a second round of Knock It Out of
the Park was held. Tuesday-Thursday of each week, stu-
dents had the opportunity to earn Dum Dum Suckers or
Laffy Taffy for answering a question in their subject
correctly. Students were able to answer more than one
question a day; however, they could only win one piece
of candy. Tuesdays featured algebra questions, Wednes-
days biology questions, and Thursdays U.S. History
questions. Each day, three winners were chosen at the
end of lunch to receive a full sized candy bar. On Mon-
day, May2nd, one winner was drawn from a bucket of
all the correct answers turned in to receive a $100 Visa
Gift card!
All of these efforts help reinforce course content and
motivate students as they prepare for their EOC exams!

end of the year working on that goal! We are very proud
of their efforts! Congratulations to the students and

On Monday, April 25th, our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders
celebrated Earth Day in collaboration with the Bells Elementary
PTO and Kohl’s. Each classroom planted flowers for the beautifica-
tion of our water gardens. This Earth Day activity tied in with sci-
ence lessons of natural re-
sources, living or non-living
things working together, and
learning the parts of a plant.
We would like to thank the
Bells Elementary PTO and
Kohl’s volunteers for work-

Congratulations to Mrs. Ciaccio’s and Ms. Offill’s classes. They won the April attend-
ance contest. 100% of the two classes were present during the BES contest. The reward
was that Coach Ciaccio, Coach Offill, and the “#1 sports fans” got to dress up and show off

Bells High School Student Selected to Visit NASA This Summer as a High School
Aerospace Scholar
Kinley Ives has been selected to travel to NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC)
this summer to participate in the High School Aerospace Scholars program (HAS).
Nominated by their state legislator, Ives, has been selected as one of more than 260
high school juniors from across Texas to be part of HAS. During the school year,
selected students completed a 16-week interactive, on-line curriculum including four
distance-learning modules each containing four web-based assignments. The on-site
experience at NASA will include a tour of JSC facilities and briefings by NASA
subject matter experts, then these scholars will apply their newfound knowledge
working as a team to plan and design a mission to Mars. Their on-site experience will conclude with a presentation of their proposal to
attending parents, members of the Texas Legislature, Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo, Rotary NASA, and JSC senior management. The state of Texas, in partnership with JSC and the Texas educational communi-
ty, developed HAS in 1999 to encourage more students to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engi-
neering and mathematics (STEM). More than 8,700 students from across Texas have participated in the program
since its inception 17 years ago. With this program, NASA continues the Agency’s tradition of investing in the nation’s educational programs.
It is directly tied to the Agency's major education goal of attracting and retaining students in STEM disciplines
critical to NASA’s future missions, which include missions to Mars and beyond.
