Bellingen High School this year is
involved with the Local Health District
in research and promotion of water as
the preferred drink called Thirsty?
Choose water!
Being involved means that our school
has received a chilled water station
with a chilled water bottle filler so
students can refill their water bottles
during the day.
Year 7 students are receiving information in PDHPE classes on sugar sweetened drinks and
taking part in a water challenge.
Students will be surveyed on their knowledge and
behaviours around drinking water and sugar
sweetened drinks.
At home we are asking parents to provide water
or milk as the drinks of preference

Business Owners Can
you help?
We are running a Year 10 camp to Sydney at the
end of the year with Urban Adventures. The camp
involves outdoor activities, camping on Cockatoo
Island and Sydney icon activities such as the
Amazing Race! It will be a wonderful experience
for our students, many of whom have not been to
Sydney before. Bellingen High School are
subsidising the camp as much as possible so
hopefully the cost to students will be $399
fully inclusive. To enable all students to
attend, we will be running a raffle with prizes
donated by local businesses, for example gift
vouchers or donated goods. Students can
cover the cost of camp by selling raffle
tickets. These raffle tickets will be
professionally printed with names of business
donations and promoted through our
website, newsletter and social media page.
We would greatly appreciate any donations
large or small. Please contact Year 10
Advisors Frieda Gorman or Jon Winfer or the
lovely office ladies on 66551315 if you can
help.

INDONESIAN NEWS
Halo (Hello)
Selamat Datang (Welcome) to all the new Year 7 students.
The Indonesian Language Department is pleased to announce new and exciting
programs for 2020. We will be introducing Indonesia as a country and learning
about where it is and who its neighbours are. This will be done through mapping
and a variety of games. Students will also learn about the history of Indonesia,
its Flag and the significance of its Emblem. This gives us an understanding of
Indonesia and its people as one of our closest neighbours. As we learn about
another culture, we reflect on our own.
The Year 7 students have also received their note about 4 incursions that they
will be participating in. Please hand in the note and money to the front office.
FYI Statistics

Sport News BHS starts the year on a high
The Bellingen High School boys entered the Mid North Coast CHS Volleyball
competition with a sense of purpose after numerous days spent practicing their
serving game and drilling plays. Hudson Brown the teams’ captain, had a steely look
of resolve in his eyes during his team chat. First match Bellingen High drew Coffs
Harbour High. The Coffs High contingent were by far the shorter team, an assembly
that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the junior division. However, they were
certainly not short on spirit displaying some decent play. Nevertheless, the boys
settled things quickly in two sets. The second match the boys faced Orara High
School, whose team members were spotted performing impressive push up routines
during warm up, they seemed hungry for a challenge after winning their first game
comfortably. The Bellingen boys started the game extremely well, leading 20 to 12
in a race to 25. Josh Weldon-Schupp, Tyran Fieldes and Hudson Brown were all
instrumental in constructing this lead with a scintillating display of blocks, serves
and spikes. However, at this point Orara found some rhythm and the student who
was spotted during the warm up unveiled the real extent of his talent, leading his
team with some brilliant plays to steal the first set from under the Bello boy’s noses.
The second set ended more quickly,
despite the best efforts of Bellingen,
Orara ran away with the set winning the
match two sets to nil. The team as a
whole are to be congratulated for their
dedicated performance. This meant the
boys were runner-up Mid North Coast
Zone Champions.

The Bellingen High School Girls Volleyball team also attended the Knockout and
Trials Volleyball day at Sportz Central. These girls have trained well and been Zone
Champions for the last few years. However, with some older girls spending more time
on study commitments only 3 girls from last year attended. The young players coming
through have worked well with the older girls and the team play, in general, was
excellent. The standard on the day had improved from past years, however, the
Bellingen girls stepped up and were dominant on the day.
Firstly Bellingen High defeated Orara High convincingly 2 sets to 0 with the Orara
girls only able to reach 12 points in both games. CHEC was keen to show their skills
after defeating Coffs Harbour High easily. However, it was the Bellingen girls who
again dominated winning easily in 2 sets.
In recognition of their dominance on the day the entire Bellingen team was selected
in the Mid North Coast Zone team,
however, only 3 were available to go.
Indiana Brodbeck, Jamika McAulay-
Earnest and Leilani Coombes will travel to
Ballina for North Coast trials this Friday.
The Bellingen High girls’ team will go on in
the State Knockout competition taking on
the winners of Lower North Coast later
this term.

the swimming was generally classy with 8 records being broken on the day.

The relays are always an exciting part of the day and this year was no different. A
big improvement in Hocking saw them finish 2nd in three relays. The open boys relay
saw the staff team on fire winning by the narrowest of margins.
We look forward to seeing the swimmers at the MNC Zone Swimming Carnival and
hope to have an increase in relay teams involved.
