BELGIUM - MD 112 BELGIUM - The Kingdom of Belgium is a federal monarch in Western Europe in an area of 11,787 square miles with a population of approximately 11 million. It is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speaking, mostly Flemish community in the north and the French-speaking, mostly Wal- loon population in the south. Brussels, the capital, is a bilingual region and is mostly French- speaking within the Flemish (Dutch) sector. The country is host to the European Union headquar- ters as well as the highly important NATO headquarters.
