4. Grand Place : (Grote Markt)• Main tourist attraction.• one of the most beautiful in Europe and has been a Unesco World

Heritage Site since 1998• Many of the city's main cultural events take place here; the most famous

are the annual Ommegang and the biennial flower carpet.• The imposing gothic Town Hall (Hotel de Ville), built in the early 15th

century is still used for civic purposes including marriages and is the official seat of the Mayor of Brussels

5. MANNEKEN PIS• one of Brussels' famous, but more unusual attractions.• The small boy peeing in the water fountain is to Brussels what the Statue of

Liberty is to Manhattan, or Big Ben is to London. • The statue is only a tiny 61cm (2ft) in height. • On special occasions the fountain is attached to a beer Keg and Manneken Pis

urinates beer, which is served to onlookers to help them celebrate the occasion

6. BASILIQUE NATIONALE DU SACRE-COEUR

• The twin towers and 80m high copper dome of the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart is a Brussels landmark

• Seated on top of a gently sloping hill in the district of Koekelberg

• Dome is open to the public which offers views of the city.

7. EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT & QUARTER• This huge glass structure is one of three

homes of the European Parliament – the others are located in Strasbourg (France) and Luxembourg

8. CATHEDRAL OF ST MICHAEL & ST GUDULE• The beautiful Gothic Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula is

the national church of Belgium and it is here that royal

weddings and funerals take place.

9. MIM - Musical Instruments museum • It occupies the old Art Nouveau buildings of the Old

England stores and is one of the biggest collection of instruments in the world.

10. Magritte Museum (Royal museums of FineArts) :• This museum stands right in the centre of Brussels, on Place

Royale, and exhibits for public viewing the surrealist artist’s creations belonging to Belgium’s Royal Museums of Fine Arts and originating mainly from purchases and from the Irène Hamoir-Scutenaire and Georgette Magritte bequests.

• This multidisciplinary collection is the richest in the world.

• Antoine Dansaert Straat and the surrounding area -hub and heart of Brussels’ fashion and design world

• The Avenue Louise – street famous for fashion brands, including big international names like Chanel, Vuitton, Hermes, Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace and Christian Dior.

• Rue Neuve – for bargains• Gallerie St Hubert (1847) - gorgeous, glass roofed arcade in the

center of town, lined with cafes, theaters and luxury stores and has the distinction of being the first shopping arcade in Europe.
