Beirut Mapping Party
osm-lb.org
Collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world.
“The Wikipedia of geographical information”
Why map the world?
• Quality map data is not free for personal or commercial usage or modification.
• Getting the data is complicated.
• Map data is incomplete.
• Maps have errors that we can fix.
• Several areas of the world are not properly mapped (Lebanon villages).
• It’s fun!

How it works?
First, collect data
• GPS track points
• Observations
• Satellite imagery
• Existing data sets
• Own maps
How it works?
Second, create and edit information
• Describe meaningful geographical data: Human knowledge
• Make it available to the world in an open format

How it works?
Third, use the data
• Generate bitmap maps (images) for web or print.
• Vector map for navigation services and routing.
• Other applications?
