Expanding the Military

FDR increased the defense budget

Many members of minority groups joined the service, but were forced to serve in separate units

Many women served in non-combat positions as well

The Economy

- FDR created the War Production Board to figure out which companies switched to war production

(ex. Ford motor company began making airplanes)

- U.S. spent 321 billion dollars to finance the war; 41% of that money from higher taxes
