Day 2 – Beijing

Enjoy breakfast in the comfort of your hotel before commencing your full day tour, in the

morning you shall visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park.

Located in the heart of the city, considered to

be the most important landmark due to

historical reasons is Tiananmen Square.

Welcome to the world’s largest public square,

surrounded by grand buildings including the

Great Hall of the People and the Museum of

Chinese History. Peruse the four marble lions

at the front of the Tiananmen gate, the

southwest statue suffered a bullet hole in the

stomach from the 1989 Tiananmen Square

massacre.

Forbidden City portrays the might and grandeur of the Imperial Chinese court, considered

amazingly strong during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The city has transformed since the

height of her power as evident in the handful of cafes and gift shops scattered throughout.

Beautifully secluded courtyards can be found here.

North of the Forbidden City you will find

Jingshan Park, a large public park famous for

an artificial hill Jingshan (Prospect Hill).

Originally used as a private imperial garden,

attached to the grounds of the Forbidden City,

opened to the public in 1928.

In the afternoon your tour shall continue with

the Temple of Heaven (Altar of Heaven), a

complex of religious structures located in the

south eastern section of the city. Emperors from

the Ming and Qing dynasties would visit here annually to perform ceremonies, praying for a

good harvest. Regarded as a Taoist temple, although interestingly Chinese heaven worship

pre-dates Taoism.

is located far away from the city and considered

difficult to hike as the steps are very steep. The

second is the most scenic; a chair lift can be
