Before the titans, gods, and goddesses,

there was Chaos…

Chaos: “gap, gaping void, chasm, abyss”

From Chaos was born Gaia, or “Earth”

Now, because Gaia was alone and wanted a partner, she brought forth

Uranus, or “Sky”

When Gaia and Uranus came together, Gaia gave birth to some

pretty interesting creatures… Including:

Titans

Giants

Cyclops

Hecatonchires

Two of the Titans were brother and sister,Cronus and Rhea

Cronus was the most powerful of the Titans, and is often

called “Lord of the Universe”

Rhea was much gentler, and is often

called “Mother Earth”

Brace yourselves for a some incest… (which is awkwardly quite common in Greek

Mythology)

Cronus and Rhea have a little get together and Rhea gives birth to…

Hades

Demeter Zeus

Hera Poseidon

Hestia

After Rhea gives birth to the gods and goddesses, a prophesy comes that Cronus

will be overthrown by one of his own children…

So he decides to swallow each of them.

When Zeus grows older and stronger, Rhea and Zeus

come up with a plan to save the other gods and

goddesses.

They create a magic potion…

Rhea tricks Cronus into drinking the potion…

…which makes him throw up Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hestia, and

Demeter. Alive and whole!

Cronus becomes terrified

and flees…

…leaving Zeus and his brothers and sisters to rule over the world on Mount

Olympus.
