♦-LEE COLLEGE
Pipefitting Become a
PipefitterThe Pipefitting Program at Lee College places special
emphasis on hands-on training using our three large and completely
equipped labs. Blueprint reading and isometric sketching are given
special attention as requested by local industries. Threading,
pipe, socket-weld, and butt-weld pipe fabrications skills and the
mathematics needed to lay out and build these projects are
thoroughly covered.
Lee College ofers courses which train and prepare students for
today’s industry.
Employment Outlook
Opportunities are available in petrochemical manufacturing,
contracting, and numerous other industries. Demand for pipefitters
will probably increase over the next several years with large
construction and expansion projects being announced by the
petrochemical industry in our area. Since pipefitters are needed
for many diferent industries, pipefitters also have the ability to
transfer to other industries when they are in high demand or leave
declining industries. Jobs are not threatened by automation in
comparison to others, as pipefitting will always require skilled
workers to operate machines and ensure that products are safe.
Career Opportunities
Lee College sits at the center of the largest petrochemical
complex in the world. New construction of plants, remodeling, and
overhauling of existing facilities and the maintenance of these
plants is the main source of employment in our immediate industrial
area. Pipefitters can expect to progress from entry-level helper to
journeyperson to supervisor as their knowledge and experience
increases. Most area companies have standing calls for
pipefitters.
