“I can do this!”

• Bebras is a contest to promote Computational Thinking among primary and secondary students.

• The tasks can be answered without prior knowledge about digital technologies, but are clearly related to digital technology concepts.

• To solve the tasks, students are required to think in and about digital technologies, discrete structures, computation, data processing, and algorithmic concepts. Each Bebras task can both demonstrate an aspect of digital technologies and test the talent of the participant, regarding digital technologies.

• We want you to have fun !

Bebras Overview

• Bebras takes about one school hour (45-60 min)

• Students can participate individually or in small groups (up to 4).

• Levels: from Year 3-12, participating in 5 categories: years 3+4, 5+6, 7+8, 9+10, 11+12

• Collaboration and sharing during the challenge are encouraged!

• No prior computing/ICT knowledge is required.

• Type in your username and password

• Click on the ‘Login’ button

Choosing a Challenge

1. Click on Challenges

Participating in a Challenge

1. Select the group for your year level.

Adding Team Members (1)1. If you participate individually,

click on ‘Start’

2. The name of the team leader will be displayed.

3. If there are further team members, then the first one enters their username and password and the clicks on ‘Log In’.

1. This is really important if the additional team members want to receive their certificate of participation!

Adding Team Members (2)

1. If there are no further team members, click on ‘Start’

2. If you want to add another team member, then he/she logs in here.

3. Repeat this step until everyone has logged in, or until the team is full (4).

Team is full

1. When 3 additional team members have been added, the system displays a ‘team is full’ screen.

2. Click on ‘Start’ to commence the Challenge.

Tasks Overview

1. Click on the first task

2. It is recommended that you start with an easy task A-type. The B-Tasks are medium and C-Tasks are hard.

The First Task1. Answer the task. Sometimes,

you will need to enter a value, or drag interactive elements, or simply click on one of 4 possible answers.

2. If you see a ‘Save’ button (not every task has one) then make sure you click on it.

3. Then, move on to the next task.

About Flowers

1. When you see a flower in the task menu, then this means that you have answered the task.

2. It does not mean that your answer was right!

If You Get Stuck

1. If you get stuck on a task, simply click on ‘Next’.

2. You can always come back to a task later by clicking on it in the menu.

3. You can also ask your teacher for advice. Though he/she will not be allowed to answer the task for you.

Ending the Challenge

1. If you are sure to end the challenge, click on ‘Yes’

2. You have completed the challenge !

3. Don’t worry if you ran out of time. Your results are stored on the server.

Certificates1. Specially

designed Certificates of Participation will be presented to each student who completed the challenge.

2. These will include the student’s name and score.

3. We will generate the certificates and email PDFs to the coordinators for local printing and distribution.
