The bolt in its final shape is as in figure below.

Flange bolt:This bolt is used to tight the grips to hold the rods. They are made up of steel and

a flange nut is also used along with this bolt. The dimensions of this bolt are given in fig

    below.

    Volume = 2.2580501e-01 in3

    Surface area = 6.3845097 in2

    Density = 8.7888000e-03 slug / in3

    Mass = 1.9845551e-03 slug

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    19/36

First step is to extrude the circle to make the head of the bolt.

Now draw a line as shown in figure below.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    20/36

And revolve it to remove the material as shown in figure.

Then use extrusion to make the length of the bolt.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    21/36

Now extrude the flange on the head of the bolt

    Then round the edges

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    22/36

Make another flange on the other side

Make the threading on the length. The final form of bolt is as shown in figure below.

    Assembling the Parts of Apparatus

To start assembling the parts of the apparatus, open a new file, assembly. Import the base of the

apparatus. Set the location of base as default.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    29/36

Accept the settings of this part and select the green check mark. Now import the second part i.e.

the horizontal bar. Select the cylinder constraints set and join the axis of horizontal bar and the

base hole made for inserting this bar.

Now select the translation axis and select the end of horizontal rod and the front surface of base.

Enter the current position as 0.00.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    30/36

Click on the green check mark to accept the assembled part. Now import the vertical rod and

    assemble it too.

Now import the base second time and assemble in the same manner as the previous parts areassembled.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    31/36

Click on the green check mark to accept the assembled part. Now import the vertical bar again

and assemble in the same manner as the previous parts are assembled.

Then import the grip and adjust it at the top of the vertical rod as shown in figure

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    32/36

Again import the grip and adjust it as shown in figure below.

Also import the horizontal bar and adjust it.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    33/36

In the same way insert two grips on other vertical top rod also.

Import the flange bolts and insert them to join the grips.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    34/36

Now fit the nut on the other side of flange bolt.

Do the same for other set of grips.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    35/36

Insert the bolts in the bases.

  • 7/30/2019 Beam Apparatus Modeling

    36/36

Place the washers at both sides of each flange bolt.

The final, complete assembly is as shown below.
