• 29 year old Doug Lorman shared a 6 second Vine video from footage on the

Boston NBC Newsfeed

• That day the loop was tweeted 15,700 times, viewed by over 35,000

• Alex Goldmark-producer at WYNC said Vine was getting its moment as a

breaking news tool.

• Other Vine reports showed the aftermath of the explosion, Twitter streams

updating with news, and recording news reports through TV screens.

SOCIAL MEDIA REPORTING TAKEAWAYS:

• For the nonprofit group project, several of the clients are now

using Instagram in an effective way

• The realization that short form videos can give out a significant

amount of information in 6 and 15 seconds

• Framing and creative angles can pay off in short form videos

and photography

• Detailing locations, hashtags, and tagging teaches students to

consider the audience they want to reach

• Students learn how to use Vine and Instagram for teasing and

storytelling for mobile and younger audiences

• It’s a fun and creative way for students to use their videography,

editing, and writing skills on a smartphone
