In the month of November, we all set aside time to think about what we are thankful for. I am thankful that Junior completed his basic obedience class. As promised, here is a picture from his graduation.

In addition to this, I am thankful for friends, family, and health. Because of the heartbreaking events that took

place in Las Vegas, Nevada last month, spend some extra time with your loved ones and cherish the moments you have together. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Change is a constant. Everybody knows that. But, if you really do expect change, what are you actually going to do about it?

If you’re committed to making your best even better, you won’t just react to change. You’ll create it.

In The Potential Principle, Mark Sanborn encourages readers who want to reach their best to focus on four areas of the Potential Matrix: the performing quadrant, the learning quadrant, the thinking quadrant, and the reflecting quadrant. But there’s one tool that you can use in all of these areas at once to create breakthrough improvement and move closer toward realizing your full potential. The first tool is to disrupt yourself before someone or something else does it for you.

At last some good news for Microsoft’s ignored Edge browser—new tests by NSS Labs have found that it beats Chrome and Firefox at blocking malware downloads and phishing attacks.

After continuous tests this year, Edge blocked 96% of the socially-engineered malware (SEM) samples thrown against it in the form of malicious links and pop-ups, compared to 88% for Chrome and 70% for Firefox. The researchers describe SEM attacks as “a dynamic combination of social media, hijacked email accounts, false notification of computer problems, and other deceptions to encourage users to download malware”.

Edge did even better when it came to phishing, blocking 92% of malicious URLs, compared to Chrome’s 75% and Firefox’s 61%.

These differences sound significant but how seriously should we take them?

An important variable here is the cloud-based blacklists of files and URLs these browsers use to decide what’s trustworthy and what’s not.

Edge uses Microsoft’s SmartScreen (also used by Internet Explorer), while Chrome and Firefox use Google’s Safe Browsing API (also used by Apple’s Safari and other Google services such as Gmail).

An interesting question is what all this means for companies using more than one browser, either for compatibility reasons or because they fear being exposed to a spe-cific security vulnerability affecting one.

That’s a complex judgment not assessed by NSS Labs but it shouldn’t escape our notice that Edge came last in the CanSecWest Pwn2Own contest earlier this year in terms of contestants finding exploitable software flaws. These phishing and SEM tests are not the whole story.

In the end, focusing on browser security technology might be to miss the point that devices of all kinds come with other security layers, chief among them their users. Which is to say that while the person using a computer can be a weakness, they could, if properly trained, also be a strength. Whatever the differences between one browser and another, performance scores should never be seen as compensation for more weaknesses.

Increase Your Home’s Value AND Save Cash at the Same Time Implementing tech upgrades to your home — taking one more step toward the “smart home” — can be a good time, and it’ll save you precious time and money every day. With smart lighting, you’ll

never accidentally leave a light on again, saving you a lot more than you think over time. If you have a smart thermostat, you’ll have much more con-trol over the temperature of your home, easily making adjustments with the touch of a button and reducing heating/cooling bills. Not only that, but more perma-nent installations like solar panels can drastically in-crease the value of your home while reducing your

carbon footprint and your utility bill at the same time. Smart homes may seem like a luxury, but in fact, they’re a lot more cost-effective than they appear.

If change hits you from some outside source — say, a disruptive technology, company or nation — you’ll find yourself scrambling to adapt. You’ll struggle to catch up rather than strive to stay ahead.

But what if you’re the one bringing the change? What if you’re the one driving innovation? That makes you the game changer!

Think about the habits, practices, and routines in your life that need to be shaken up a bit. It’s human nature to become complacent and keep doing things the way you’ve always done them. But people who are dedicated to self-improvement unsettle complacency, combat mediocrity and challenge the status quo, both in themselves and in those around them. They keep growing, and they keep the people in their families and companies growing as well.

Are you doing things that used to succeed but no longer work as well, if at all? Are you spending valuable time on unproductive activities when that time could be better invested elsewhere?

What is the ratio between your “daydreaming” and your “daily doing?” You can plan and prepare too much if it prevents you from taking action. And sometimes, it’s good to recognize that a daydream is really just a fantasy, and you’d be better off focusing your energy on more important goals.

Maybe you’re spinning your wheels in unhealthy relationships. This can be the hardest area of your life to disrupt. But if someone is influencing you negatively, you might need to change, limit, or end your relationship with them.

Disrupting yourself will make you strong-er. The path to progress and success isn’t a leisurely walk through the countryside. It’s a rocky, steep path of resistance — and resistance develops muscle. Breaking up patterns and unsettling stable but humdrum practices can result in new enthusiasm, energy and opportunities.

If you want to be the best you can be, don’t let someone or something else change your game. Be proactive and disrupt the things that need to change in your life yourself.

Big Red is still the big dog… but T-Mobile is nipping at its heels.

In the battle to claim best mobile network, the winner is arguable. RootMetrics says it’s Verizon. OpenSignal says

T-Mobile. Digging into their reports, you’ll find that geographical factors determine the winner. OpenSignal’s

crowdsourced data comes mostly from city dwellers. So their finding that T-Mobile wins most likely applies to urban areas. But that data doesn’t apply if you’re out in the sticks. RootMetrics reports more on overall coverage, and they find Verizon at the top. So who’s got the best

network for you? At this point, it boils down to where you live and work. But stay tuned… this race is getting close.
