Welcome back to school after our one week of school holi-days. The final examinations are just around the corner. Many of our BDSians, I am sure, would have used the holidays productively to put in the extra effort to prepare for the exams. Our teachers have conscientiously guided and prepared the students throughout the year and they will continue to be there to provide that additional assis-tance in the studies. To our BDSians, the rest is up to you now, to approach your exams focussed, well-prepared and with confidence.

For those of you who are in Sec One, term four is a critical period where you put yourself through the test to gauge if you have built a strong foun-dation in your studies. For

those in Sec Two and Three, you must remember that you are at a key stage of your sec-ondary school career. You must continue to put in extra effort in your studies in order to do well when you take your Sec Four exams.

Graduating students, especial-ly those in Sec 4 Express, 4 Normal Technical and 5 Nor-mal courses, will see their secondary school journey in BDS coming to an end after their final exams. As men-tioned during our graduation ceremony, you must believe in your ability to overcome this seemingly daunting task ahead, because your teachers have equipped you well for this, and you too must believe that you have what it takes to overcome this challenge. On 31 May, our Sec 2NT

students staged two drama

performances at the Bedok

Public Library. The event

entitled “Stage that Page”

was created to provide a

platform for the performing

arts and drama students from

secondary schools all over

Singapore. Drama club mem-

bers from two other schools

put up performances as well

and our students were the

only ones who had boldly

stepped up after only 10

hours of formal training. They

also wrote the scripts them-

selves, giving classic tales a

modern twist. The perfor-

mance was received well by

the audience who gave us

very positive feedback at the

end of the event. It was cer-

tainly an unforgettable learn-

ing experience for our stu-

dents.

Racial Harmony Day

National Day Celebrations For this year’s National Day, the students were involved in various learning journeys planned by the various departments. Students had the opportunity to experience the rich cul-ture and history of Sin-gapore from their jour-neys to Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Discov-ery centre and Marina Barrage. water games activities for

Water Heritage Trail

On 8 Aug, three Sec 2 classes took part in the Water Heritage Trail at Marina Barrage. This trail was or-ganised and facilitated by Sec 3A, as part of their Project Work. They had to carefully plan the entire trail which is part of Bedok South ABC Water Programme and also help to advocate it. The ABC Waters Pro-gramme is an initiative by PUB

which aims to create beautiful and clean streams, rivers, and lakes with postcard-pretty community spaces for all to enjoy. The objective of the trail for the Sec 2 students was to allow them to appreciate Marina Barrage as a dam in a fun and engaging way using the interactive gallery. In this way, it would also increase their environmental awareness especial-ly in the area of water resource and conservation. Through the gallery walk, they would understand how precious water is and learn to con-serve water. This, in turn, would create a snowball effect as these students would tell more people about saving water and the mes-sage may even be passed down to the next generation. This would

thus help to protect Singapore’s environment. The trail also allowed the Sec 2 students to personally experience water quality testing. For the 3A students, it had provid-ed them a platform to learn more about national environmental is-sues and water challenges. It also allowed them to hone their skills in facilitating, organising, researching, planning and communication.
