BCI Canada Chapters RoleWorking closely with the BCI Central Office, it is our task to:
• Represent the needs and professional requirements of BCM professionals working in Canada
• Be recognized as the premier influential organization for all aspects of Business Continuity in Canada
• Raise the profile of BCI certification in the eyes of decision makers so that BCI certification becomes a de-facto requirement for business continuity practitioners in Canada
• Help shape and influence the future direction and development of BCM in Canada, including all BCM related standards, legal, statutory and regulatory– For example the CSA-Z1600 standard on Emergency Management and Business Continuity, and;– To align standards and practices across Canadian Provinces
• Develop local, strategic partnership relationships with other BCM related organizations– to ensure the continued global growth and influence of the BCM discipline across different industries
and sectors– to increase the benefits of BCI Membership, including exclusive access to personal development,
training and education opportunities as well as member discounts from partner organizations
BCI Canada Chapters Role (Continued)Working closely with the BCI Central Office, it is our task to:
• Encourage new members into the Institute and to grow the BCI Canada Membership
• Encourage new blood into the BCM industry and to promote BCM as a career choice
• Promote the highest standards of professional and technical competency in BCM in Canada
• Expand the knowledge base and thought leadership opportunities for BCM professionals working and living in Canada
• Encourage the continued professional development of BCM professionals working and living in Canada through the provision of professional support and development activities
• Facilitate and promote regional networking opportunities to enable BCM professionals working in Canada to come together to share good BCM practice, exchange ideas and build valuable relationships– Regional networking includes building relationships with similar organizations in Canada and nearby
US Cities, particularly in the Prairie and Western Provinces where the nearest large city may be in the USA
In response to requests from members based in Canada over the past year the Canadian chapter have been working closely with the BCI central office and we are pleased to announce that very shortly we will be offering our members the opportunity to receive their membership subscription invoice in Canadian dollars (CAD), pay in CAD and have a receipt sent in CAD.
We are pleased to confirm that from your next renewal date after the 1st of September 2016, your BCI membership subscription invoice will be produced in CAD. Payments will be accepted by Visa and MasterCard only.
Your account has already been set up to receive this, however if you wish to opt out and continue to receive your invoices/receipt in GBP, please email our Subscriptions Department, [email protected]
Chapter Updates: Communications• Switched from periodic e-mails only to a regular monthly (or so) newsletter, supplemented
by other e-mails for particular announcements or events.
• Central office has provided standard formatting and now handles distribution based on the current member database, with excellent turnaround times.
• With thanks to board member Marie-Helene Primeau for timely translations, communications are now available in French.
• Remember to update your profile on-line if your e-mail address changes, to ensure you receive continue to receive all BCI communications. There is now also a Forum field to enable regional communications. Please check that you are in the right one.
• Social media traffic continues to increase steadily
• Two North American Awards presented and celebrated at WCDM in June 2016. – Suzanne Bernier – Consultant of the Year– Brad Hove – Newcomer of the Year
• Global Achievement Award presented to Des O’Callaghan in London, November 2015

The GMC is a body of 20 members representing all national chapters and other regions within the BCI• Your Canada Chapter rep is Des O’Callaghan• GMC represents member views and act as Subject Matter Experts when needed• Advises and supports overall Strategic Plan• GMC strikes specific working groups as required to perform specific activities and generate
deliverables• 2016 activities included:
– Reviewed and discussed Chapter updates– Discussed and considered membership retention strategies– Involvement in the development of How To Guides aligned to the GPG’s– Provision of judges for various regional awards– Deliberation of future GMC mandate
