Baynton West Primary School An Independent Public School 5 July 2019 Dear Parents/Caregivers, Its a wrap! Term two is over, reports will go home today and it s time to rest and recover from an extremely busy and highly productive term. It is a timely reminder to consider the flu vaccination as we have been hit hard as a school by influenza. Our staff and students have really suffered from illness over the last few weeks and attendance has been affected considerably. I wish everybody who has been ill a speedy recovery. Cross country Great sportsmanship and a love of competition defined our team spirit on Wednesday at Dampier. We achieved an overall second place and achieved four medals. Congratulations to Harper Cunninghame, Ella White and Keira Fawcett who all won medals. A big thank you to all of the team for their hard work, a hug to parents for supporting our inter school events and kudos to our Health and Physical Education faculty for their dedication to competitive sport and modelling good sportsmanship to our students. Im always grateful to our wonderful families for their conduct at our sporting events, however, behaviour of some individuals from other local schools has meant we have adopted, network wide, a Code of Conductfor spectators. Please accept this in the spirit it is delivered as abuse of umpires is not something we experience at our school, however, will not ever be tolerated. PRIME Maths trial We are trialling a new Maths book (commencing Term 3) in Mrs Maasdam and Miss Sayeghs junior classes. A big thank you to these teachers for putting their hand up to have a go at this resource. We will be watching closely the studentsresults and if the trial is successful, we will be seeking permission from the School Board to add this to the booklist for Year 1-3 in 2019. The cost to students in the classes participating in the trail is nil and we will keep you informed as to how this trial is going. Library News The library has been a hub of activity in Term 2, The Treasure Hunt still eludes a few. There have been lots of laughs and giggles, students and teachers to guess the riddles. Hot air balloons are floating from the ceiling, Thanks to Mr Weston's C7 they leave a wonderful feeling. They are full of colour and floating in the air, along with their favourite quotes to share. It’s been 50 years since man first landed on the moon, We made a space theme to support Science Week coming soon. The library had space walking, planet ordering and naming, It’s been very popular and best of all it’s been educational with gaming. NAIDOC week is to celebrate history, culture and people, who inspire. We selected two writers from the Pilbara

that we chose to admire. It’s wonderful to see the creative activities of the library entourage, We created hands for the display and an Australian animal collage. From me and the student librarians have a great holiday. Be safe and enjoy your time off, see in Term 3, hooray! NAIDOC at Baynton West Primary School The theme this year for NAIDOC was Voice, Treaty, Truth; Let’s work together for a shared future! Baynton West students, staff, parents and community members celebrated this special day in a very memorable assembly focusing on ‘voices’ led by Mrs Bishopp’s Aboriginal Enrichment Class. Students from every class presented the key messages about the male Aboriginal who they researched and how they made a difference to society. Students also contributed to stunning artwork that collated thoughts about these leaders or about parents who had come into their child’s class to share their story. Our guest speaker Mr Dunk shared his story to the school community and some very key messages about how dedication, resilience and persistence will bring your dreams to you. The assembly concluded with a modified version of ‘We are Australian’ led by the wonderful C10 class along with everyone who attended with passion and gusto. Lastly we would like to thank you all the parents who came into their child’s classroom to share their story or something special to your family, you made an incredible difference to your child’s class. We hope to see more parents next year.
