The Board, after receiving input from members, voted to CHANGE the venue of our 2018 Quilt Show from its long-time home at Cape Cod Tech to Barnstable High School. We hope that this CHANGE will mean an even more exciting and successful Quilt Show. Show Chairs Cindy Greenwood, Noreen Couture and entire Committee continue to meet, plan and work with Barnstable H.S. to address the logistics, budgets and all the details that that will go into “Seasons of Quilting.” At the same time our gorgeous Raffle Quilt, “Cape Cod Autumn,” is well on its way to completion. Yes, CHANGE isn’t always easy, so Thanks to all for your patience and cooperation during our September and October meetings at the Brewster Ladies Library and the Harwich Community Center. Not everything has changed. Thanks to our Program Planners, Lynn Perreault and Jane Wilson, for bringing us lectures and workshops by Mickey Lawler in September and Bonnie Dwyer in October. Diane McGuire shared her techniques and tips for making leaves during a class on October 28. Noreen Couture continues to encourage us to make our Block(s) of the Month. We thank Diane and Noreen. Our first ever Seaside Retreat at the Lighthouse Inn on West Dennis Beach took place October 1-3 and was a huge success thanks to the efforts of Rada Elegant and Noreen Couture! On October 7th we welcomed a group of new members at our annual New Member Tea. Thanks to Diane McGuire and all who helped and brought refreshments. Regretfully, our shop hop bus trip to Rhode Island scheduled for November 1 was cancelled due to too few sign-ups. Please give Debbie Zeida your suggestions for a Spring bus trip now. Thank you to our Member Representatives for organizing our Holiday Luncheon at Alberto’s in Hyannis on December 2 nd . Again this year, toys brought by members were donated to the Lower Cape Outreach Council. Bayberry’s charity activities continue with members (some brand new!) making pillowcases, sacks and quilts for those in need, including ill children at Tufts Floating Hospital for Children in Boston. Thank you Carol Salerno and everyone who has worked on these special quilts. We have something different planned for our January and February meetings. Both January meetings will spotlight Bayberry’s own Uncommon Threads Art Quilters. The February evening meeting will feature a talk by quilt appraiser Vivien Lee Sayre. Members will demonstrate techniques at the February day meeting, “Sharing Our Skills.” REMINDER: Beginning in January, our Tuesday evening meetings will take place at Brewster Baptist Church (next door to Brewster Ladies Library). Our annual Winter Retreats are coming up in January and February. There are a few spaces left. Thanks to Karen Pistorino and Christine Schott for taking over from Sharon Wilson, who has stepped down from organizing the Retreats. Sharon, thank you very much for introducing and running these wonderful events so enjoyed by participants! If, during this period of CHANGE, you have a question, concern or suggestion, please don’t hesitate to contact us or the Member Representatives. We are listening! 2018 Quilt Show Update
The 2018 quilt show is making great progress. We know that we will be facing many changes, but we have a wonderful team of Bayberry Quilt members working and supporting the show. We are thrilled to have just about all of the quilt show committee positions filled!!! We still have two positions open. The first position is Food. This is a new position for the show and will involve resolving the what and where food will be offered. We are also in need of a trainee for Quilt Returns as Ellie Held will be stepping down after this year. Please contact us if you would like to join the 2018 Quilt Show team in either of these positions. We are pleased to announce that the featured quilters this year will be Carol Salerno and Vi Olsen. Besides being ribbon winning quilters, they have also been invaluable contributors to Bayberry. We are thrilled to be able to highlight their creative talents at this year’s show. It is not too early to start working on your Challenge Quilt and your Theme Quilt. You will find the directions on the Bayberry web site. We hope that the number of quilts in our new location will be as outstanding as in previous years. Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday, Cindy and Noreen Quilt Show Co-Chairs

FIRST EVER FALL SEASIDE RETREAT!
This year’s Fall Seaside Retreat was an amazing experience! On October 1st, forty-two ladies descended on the Lighthouse Inn on West Dennis Beach for 3 ½ days of non-stop sewing. It was a joy to see all the amazing projects that our talented retreaters were working on.
We could not have asked for four more perfect fall days … cool, dry and breezy enough to call it FALL and just warm enough for some of our intrepid ladies to go swimming in the ocean or pool!!! And many took advantage of walking on the beach as a break from sewing or sitting outside to hand sew in the gorgeous sunlight. Judith, the Inn’s event manager, and the entire staff were friendly, fun and did everything possible to make our stay wonderful. The food at the Inn was scrumptious, not to mention the mounds of delicious goodies our ladies brought to share. Our sewing room was huge – it accommodated 42 sewers with all of their “stuff” (extra tables, lights, irons, etc., etc.) as well as five ironing stations, five cutting stations and six design walls. Forty-two turned out to be the perfect number!
We were also fortunate to have three of our member/shop owners come to us and present interesting projects and products. Many thanks to Mary Ann Fischer from Sew Pro, Pat Murphy from Cape Cod Quilts and Diane Hequembourg from Quilters’ Palette for giving their time to bring something special to our retreat.
We have scheduled the same time period for next year’s 2018 Fall Seaside Retreat at the Lighthouse Inn – Sunday, September 30th to Wednesday, October 3rd. Be on the lookout for a blast mid-January with a registration form attached. As we did this past year, it will be a first come, first served situation for everyone. So check your 2018 calendars and be prepared to get your registration form in right away! Looking forward to “retreating” with you next year!!

New Members’ Tea
The annual New Members’ Tea was held on October 7th at the Graded Schoolhouse in West Dennis. The tables were decorated with colorful pieced tablecloths made by Guild members and the buffet table was arrayed with a variety of delicious sweet and savory goodies, as well as coffee, tea and punch. New members were greeted by current members and welcomed to Bayberry. Several
lucky members went home with the potted chrysanthemum door prizes. It was a festive
introduction to our guild, its officers and the many activities that Bayberry offers its
members.
Thank you to Diane McGuire for her hard work in
organizing the Tea, to all who provided food and helped
set up the room, and to all who joined in the fun.

Members Learn to Make Better Leaves
During a workshop on October 28 at the West Dennis Grad-ed Schoolhouse, Diane McGuire shared her techniques for making leaves. Diane provided members with demonstra-tions, instruction, personal assistance and handouts. Per-haps we'll see some of their beautifully pieced leaves in quilts in our "Seasons of Quilting" Show next year!
A big Thank You goes to Diane
for making this workshop avail-
able to our members and for
sharing her considerable
experience and expertise!

In the 150th anniversary year of the making of the Jane Stickle
quilt, Pam was invited to examine and do further research on
this iconic Civil War quilt. This lecture reveals the results of her
research and sheds light on the life of this Vermont farm wife
who made an incredible quilt.

QNM: What is your most important word of advice to a new quilter who is striving for good workmanship? SM: As a self-taught quilter, I think it is important to read the quilting magazines and look at books with lots of pictures. So much can be learned from the many read-ing materials available. Going to quilt shows can provide plenty of ideas, too. Then pick something new you would like to try. See if you can make it individual even though influences from elsewhere are present. Take it one step at a time without worrying about the whole. Sometimes I think if we worry about the whole thing, we might never get started. Then try it. Don't be afraid to experiment. If you don't like it, start again. I love the quote in Madeline L'Engle's book Walking on Water. "I must have more faith in the work than I have in myself. " Just keep working on it and you may be surprised how it develops. I was!
