I hope everyone had a lovely break. I would like to extend a warm welcome to families both new and old to Bathurst West for 2016. The smiles on kid’s faces and their joy in being back at school is one of the highlights of my year! A fun and exciting year of learning lies ahead! Principal’s Position I am continuing in the role of Relieving Principal in Mr Kowalski’s extended absence until further notice. I am looking forward to consolidating the school’s excellent work of last year and to the great things we have in store for 2016! Riddle of the week For followers of the riddle, it will be back this year starting in a few weeks’ time! Sporting House Captains We will very soon be electing Sporting House Captains to lead their teams with pride, passion and dignity. Please talk to your Year 6 child(ren) about this important role. Interested students should prepare a short speech (no more than 4 or 5 sentences) about why they deserve this privilege within our school to present to their voting peers. Please see Mrs Jackson for more information. Student Representative Council (SRC) We will also soon be electing SRC representatives from each class (Years 3-6). SRC reps are a crucial link between students and teachers, helping to raise awareness of student-related issues and bring those to the attention of school leaders. Now is the time to discuss with your child(ren) about putting their hand up for this role. More information is available from Miss Binstead or Mrs Jackson. Clothing Pool The P&C run Clothing Pool is desperately in need of your help! Volunteers are required to staff this service for a short time in the morning. If you can help out, please contact the school office so we can keep this fantastic asset in our school. Other roles are also available in the P&C for interested parents, so watch out for information about up-coming meetings. A big WELCOME back to all the families of Bathurst West Public School. I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year. The canteen is up and running at full steam. We are in the process of making the four delicious menu items that we made ourselves at the canteen last year but at the moment we may not have all the products available . We are hoping to have full stock of these items within the next few weeks. Just ask at the canteen when your child puts in their order. We should have our Spag Bol ready this week and the Mac/Cheese ready for early next week. We will then keep cooking the other two items over the next week. All our other items are available and we have a full range of delicious sandwiches available at the canteen. We also will be selling the usual ice-blocks etc at afternoon tea time. For those families who are new to the school the canteen is run by the P & C and is open for lunch 5 days a week and afternoon tea 4 days a week. We are not open on Monday afternoons. We run in accordance with the Healthy Canteen guidelines and offer a varied range of menu items for your child/children to purchase. All profits that are made after paying running costs are given to the P & C for the purchase of resources for the school. Last year about $7,000 was donated. Just by placing a lunch order or purchasing afternoon tea you can help us achieve this goal again this year. We are still using the price list from 2015 at the moment and a new price list will be sent out later this month. If you do not have a pricelist please call in and collect one from the canteen. If you have any questions regarding the canteen please call in and see me at the canteen, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. ANY PARENTS WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HELPING IN THE CANTEEN ARE MORE THAT WELCOME TO CONTACT THE CANTEEN EITHER BY PHONING THE SCHOOL OR POPPING IN TO SEE ME AT THE CANTEEN. WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HELPERS. Any information regarding what is happening at the canteen will be relayed via the newsletter so keep an eye out for that information. We have a number of special days throughout the year and the children enjoy these immensely. With thanks Julie Baillie Canteen Supervisor.
