With growth mindset and the burning desire of the students, teachers, and parents to work as one, Stonyhurst Southville International School Batangas Campus ranked FIRST in the Scholastic Readers Cup participated in by 207 schools in the Philippines! 47, 916 books read by the students of academic year 2016-2017 paved the way of SSIS towards the said award given by Scholastic Inc., last Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Makati City. This event was attended by Dr. Marl Ferenal (School President), Dr. Beng Yague (Vice President for SGEN Allied Schools), Mr. Anthony Paul Calado (Principal), Dr. Raquel Plata (Deputy Principal), Ms. Clarissa Gonzalvo (former librarian and current faculty member of the school) and Ms. Joy Ramirez (current school’s librarian). The said contest is part of the Scholastic Assessment and Enrichment Program (AEP) which is being utilized by SSIS in order to make sure that the students’ reading skills are continuously honed while developing love and passion for reading. The contest covered seven continuous months and is participated in by different schools in the Philippines. The said program helped the students in improving their lexile scores and in Step out of your comfort zone and try something new! We would like to invite the students from Grades 1-12 to join the Grow the Extra Mile (G.E.M.) Project. It’s time to unleash your hidden potentials and discover new things while enjoying a new perspective in learning. To register, please accomplish a form in the Principal’s Office. Registration is on-going! developing their comprehension in reading. The Scholastic Assessment and Enrichment Program also contributed to the impressive results of the standardized tests in English taken by the students such as Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), Standards Based Assessment Test (SBA), and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Likewise, it is one of the contributing factors to the increase of the number of honor students last academic year. Let’s keep the fire burning Valiant Knights!
