Vote NO: It was stated in the September newsletter to VOTE NO on the need for a New Con- stitutional Convention. Our new legislative chair, Michael Andress, wants to stress this matter with us again. If a new Constitutional Convention is voted in they will have the option to change our pension and benefits. So remember to VOTE NO on the New Constitutional Convention so they don't have the chance to decrease our pension and benefits. If you have any questions contact Michael at 671-0771 or [email protected]. MARSP and BARSP do not en- dorse political candidates. For your information, the following BARSP members are running for office: Jennifer Barnes, Charles Brunner, Harry Gill and Colleen Maillette (Dolores’ daughter-in- law). Delegates and Alternates: Thanks to all those who signed up to be delegates or alternates for our May 12, 2011 Annual Meeting. We need more volunteers. I want to give an opportunity to everyone, especially those who did not attend the September meeting, to step forward. This is not a difficult job. I did it last year. You simply have to mark the ballot to reflect how the group voted at the meeting. Contact me at 414-3398 or [email protected] if you would like to volunteer for this one-day job. Membership: We have a very hard working membership committee. If you haven't renewed your BARSP/MARSP membership or if you know someone who would like to join BARSP/ MARSP contact Cindy Bosco at 892-9923 or [email protected] et or Phil and Sandy Paulus at 892-2933 or [email protected] . They also need to know your winter ad- dresses and dates if different from the directory. Surveys : The Survey forms will be on the tables again at the October meeting. If you haven't already done so, complete it at that time or send your information: name, address, phone num- ber, email address and how you wish your BARSP newsletter sent to you, via email or postal post, to Phil Paulus at 892-2933 or ppaulus @chartermi.net . Those who opt to have their newsletter e-mailed will help the organization save postage. Cheer & Courtesy: If you know of someone who is sick or needs a card of cheer, please con- tact Elaine Hughes at 684-8285 or Eileen Partlo at 893-1597. It's important that we let fellow BARSP members know we care. Bay City Times: It's also important for BARSP to let the public know that we are a giving part of the community. Dr. Mary Boettger wrote an article for the September 5, 2010 Bay City Times in the ‘News Briefs’ section entitled “Group Makes Donations ” about our one-time donations. Life and Times of

Ulrike (Rika) Schoenfeld

(in a minute or less)

I was born in Germany and

moved to Canada with my par-

ents and sister when I was four

years old. We lived in Canada

(where I learned to speak English

in Kindergarten) until I was 9 and

then moved to Bay City. I gradu-

ated from Bay City Central, re-

ceived my BA in elementary edu-

cation from Michigan State Uni-

versity and my Masters in reading

education from Saginaw Valley

State University.

I retired from Bay City Public

Schools in June 2009 after 34 years

of teaching. During my teaching

career I worked in both parochial

and public schools and taught

pretty much every grade from 1-8.

I also spent about 15 of those 34

years teaching either in Title I or

Reading Recovery programs.

I have one sister, Sabine, who

lives with her husband, Mark, in

Novi , Michigan. They have two

children , Rebecca and David , who

are both in college now and are a

very special part of my life.

I live in Saginaw and enjoy

visiting my friends and family,

cooking, baking and inviting guests

for dinners , reading, traveling with

friends, gardening , walking and

biking.

BARSP Membership Directories will be available at the October meeting for those who didn't get them at the Sep-tember meeting Eyeglass Collection: We are collecting eyeglasses as our statewide project for MARSP. The eyeglasses will be given to the Lion's Club but I learned at our September meeting the eyeglasses are not used in the United States but are distributed internationally. The money collected primarily stays in the area for people who need help getting eyeglasses. There will be a basket at our meetings for you to put your unused eyeglasses.

Scrapbook: A scrapbook with the name “Joe” was found in the BARSP archives. If you think it is yours contact Dr. Mary Boettger at 893-9274. —- SandySandySandySandy
