Multiple layers with multiple mattesComplex, effects-heavy DI jobs and stereo 3D animation

often require multiple external matte sequences in addition

to multiple image tracks. The ultra-high bandwidth of

the integrated parallel storage system and multiple GPU

processing enables Baselight FOUR and EIGHT to play back

multiple uncompressed streams such as DPX and OpenEXR

sequences as well as native 'raw' formats such as RED Epic

and ARRIRAW. Multiple grading and effects mattes can be

extracted from separate files or from additional channels

contained in the main image.

Multi-layer 'raw' format grading using multiple external mattes

End-to-end 4kAs the demands for higher resolutions and quality increase

the unique architecture of Baselight FOUR | EIGHT fulfils the

requirement to work at the maximum resolution through

every stage in the process, from the original source material

to the final deliverable. Our Cinema 4k combiner option

provides a full 4k 4:4:4 display output allowing you to view

your 4k work at its native resolution.

4k Stereo 3D

Baselight FOUR | EIGHT supports real-time playback and

processing of multiple streams of 4k material, giving you

full interactivity when working with 4k Stereo 3D scenes at

their native resolution.

Our stereo 3D tools are designed to make 3D working as

enjoyable as 2D. The fully automated Stereo Geometry

Fix tool combined with a range of special display modes

ensures a quick and painless stereo 3D experience. Powerful

features such as one-click convergence adjustment and

our innovative StereoGrade allow you to make artistic

changes to the 3D appearance of a shot quickly and

effectively at any point in the workflow.

Maximum power, Maximum storageThe Baselight FOUR and EIGHT grading and finishing

systems deliver supreme performance to enable

real-time playback and processing of many layers

containing complex grades and effects with multiple

matte channels, making these systems suitable for

the most demanding jobs. Both systems incorporate

large ultra high-speed storage systems which connect

directly to the internal image processing components.

The ultimate user-friendly user interfaceThe Baselight user interface can be spread across three

monitors providing you with plenty of space to arrange

and adjust all the tools you need for any specific task.

Customised workspace layouts can be saved by each

user and recalled whenever required, leading to a much

smoother and more enjoyable workflow.

Baselight FOUR | EIGHT is driven by Blackboard 2, our flagship

control surface, combining the ultimate in usability and

style with total flexibility. Every button on the control surface

contains a high resolution screen enabling key-top legends

to change dynamically according to the current operation.

Three user interface displays

Comprehensive, best-of-breed toolsetThe Baselight application software and user interface

have been refined over many years to provide colourists

with a powerful and comprehensive set of tools which

are easy and enjoyable to use. The wide range of flexible

and intuitive controls gives you complete freedom to build

up complex looks with minimal effort. You can choose

to work in many different ways, combining elements

from several complimentary tool sets, according to

your own style, as there is no restriction on the way

you manipulate and combine images and effects.

Simultaneous multi-view playback

A major benefit of Baselight systems is the ability

to view, play back and manipulate multiple images

at the same time. Up to nine image windows can

be opened simultaneously, with mixed resolutions,

colour spaces and formats, enabling you to make

direct comparisons between multiple shots in

the same scene or across multiple projects.

Built-in scopes

A full range of precision scopes can be opened as floating

windows or docked in the UI to help you accurately control

the content of your image and ensure that your final

deliverable stays within legal limits. Scopes can be used

in any combination and work interactively with the ‘pick’

function allowing you to take accurate measurements

directly from your images.

Integrated multi-channel audio

Baselight FOUR | EIGHT provides up to eight channels of

digital sound monitoring enabling you to preview your work

with a full surround-sound mix, without having to leave the

grading environment. Support for audio stems, basic level

control, syncing tools and audio waveforms on the timeline

provide you with all the tools you need to ensure a perfect

preview with sound.

Baselight FOUR | EIGHT Options

Fibrechannel interface

Internal interface card providing connectivity to supported

SAN storage.

Kompressor

Additional hardware unit enabling direct connection to Avid

Unity and Avid Unity ISIS shared storage systems.

Restoration tools (software licence)

Video repair and restoration tools.

Decoder Pack 1 (software licence)

Enhanced and additional decoding support

Stereo 3D option (software licence)

Adds specific tools for 3D stereo workflows and support for

professional 3D stereo HD-SDI output monitoring modes.

Built-in TruelightTruelight is recognised as one of the leading colour

management systems and is employed by thousands of

users around the world. The integrated Truelight system

ensures accurate conversion between colour spaces

providing a true what-you-see-is-what-you-get image on

your grading display. Truelight look-up tables (LUTs) can also

transform input material from one colour space to another

as part of the grading pipe-line, for example Log-c to rec 709.

Truelight LUTs can be rendered into your output media

enabling deliverables to be created for multiple workflows

requiring different colour spaces, such as DCI and video.

Truelight can even be used within the grade itself to add

specific artistic ‘looks’ to your images, for example by

applying a 3D LUT to simulate a physical process such as

bleach-bypass.

Integrated system managementTo maximise the overall performance of Baselight FOUR

and EIGHT systems, internal mechanisms have been

developed to monitor and optimise each individual

node within the cluster. User-friendly tools are provided

to ensure the smooth and trouble-free running of the

system, from automated start-up and shut-down to full

diagnostic support and system management utilities.

Collaborative workflowsBaselight FOUR and EIGHT systems use an internal

20gigabit Ethernet fabric which can be extended

to integrate with other Baselight systems via a

Cloud network. Projects can be shared between

multiple Baselight users and media can be

streamed between systems in real-time. The

standard network interface also enables easy

connectivity with other non-Baselight systems.

The high performance integrated storage allows multiple

users to access the same footage simultaneously,

allowing background tasks such as rendering or

conforming to be performed on a secondary system

such as Baselight Assist or Baselight ONE.

Comprehensive EDL and media format support

enable Baselight to integrate seamlessly into end-

to-end post production workflows. Projects can

be exchanged directly with Avid and Final Cut Pro

systems as well as Baselight Editions software running

on platforms such as Final Cut Pro and Nuke.
