Act stuck around making the East India Company a monopoly. The colonists decided to boycott the tea, which caused the price to drop.

• The Boston Tea Party – The Sons of Liberty threatened anyone who wanted to buy the tea or take it off the ships. Dec 16, 1773, a large crowd dressed up as Native Americans and threw 342 cases of tea into the Boston harbor.

Time for Change

• The Intolerable Acts – In retaliation to the Boston Tea Party, King George III closed the Boston harbor, increased the power of the governors, removed the Mass. legislature, cut town meetings, and strengthened the Quartering Act

• The First Continental Congress – Everyone in the colonies tried to help those in Boston. George Washington, the Adams’, Patrick Henry and other colonial representatives asked to have the Acts repealed or removed

The Shot Heard Round the World• Minutemen – Britain chose to ignore

the Congress and used force instead. Minutemen were citizen soldiers ready to fight at a minute’s notice.

• Paul Revere & William Dawes – The Mass. Governor learned about the minutemen and chose to capture them. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode out to warn the local militias.

• Lexington & Concord – The minutemen met the soldiers when a shot rang out (?) which became the first shot of the American Revolution. A larger battle followed at Concord.
