Harvest typically occurs from September to October. The region is spilt by a large estuary, called the Gironde, which is fed by two rivers: the Dordogne and the Garonne. These waterways naturally divide the region into three main areas: the Left Bank (Médoc and Graves), the Right Bank (Libournais), and Entre-Deux-Mers. BURGUNDY Located in east-central France, Burgundy spans, over 150 miles from the northern-most appellation of Chablis to the southern-most region of Beaujolais. Chablis has a particularly cool climate, with cold winters and cool summers, and is celebrated for its unique Kimmeridgian clay soils. The Côte d’Or (comprised of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune) runs along a narrow limestone escarpment about 80 miles south, and has a more typically continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Further south, the Côte Chalonnaise, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais are warmer, with milder winters due to their increasing proximity to the Mediterranean. Harvest typically occurs from September to October. CHAMPAGNE Located in north-central France, Champagne is one of the coldest regions in the country. Spring frosts are common, summers are cool, and winters can be harsh. Harvest is by hand and typically occurs from September to October. The Champagne region is famous for its chalky soils, which are porous and store water. The chalk has a high active lime content (40%), that gives low pH grapes and thus high acidity. REGIONS LOIRE Located in central France, the Loire Valley runs 600 miles east to west along the Loire River to the Atlantic coast. The region can be separated into four subregions, with distinct climates. The Central Vineyards (including Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre) have a continental climate, and soils that range from calcareous to flint. Anjou-Saumur and Touraine have mild climates, with plenty of sunshine during the growing season. The Pays Nantais, or Muscadet, has a cool, maritime climate. Harvest typically occurs from September to October. PROVENCE Located in the southeastern region of France, the coastal region of Provence has a very warm, Mediterranean climate. The ample sunshine is tempered by the cooling influence of the mistral wind which blows through both Provence and the Rhône. Harvest typically occurs from September to October. RHÔNE Located inland in southeastern France, the Rhône Valley is divided into two distinct subregions: the Northern Rhône and the Southern Rhône. The Northern Rhône has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers, while the Southern Rhône has a Mediterranean climate. Both are particularly affected by the fierce mistral wind which blows down from the Alps to the east. While the Northern Rhône is well-known for its slate and granite dominated soils, the Southern Rhône is more varied, ranging from clay, sand and limestone, to the large galets of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Harvest typically occurs from September to October. craftandestate.com | REGIONAL MAP OF FRANCE FRANCE MÂCONNAIS CÔTE DE CHALONNAISE CÔTE DE BEAUNE CÔTE DE NUITS DIJON CHABLIS MÂCON la Saône Chablis Tonnerre AUXERRE Irancy l’Yonne la Saône la Saône Fixin Vosne-Romanée Nuits-Saint-Georges Pommard Aloxe-Corton Meursault Volnay Puligny-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet Mercurey Montagny Fuissé Pouilly BEAUNE HAUTES-CÔTES DE BEAUNE HAUTES-CÔTES DE NUITS CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE RÉGNIÉ MORGON SAINT- AMOUR SAINT- AMOUR MOULIN-À-VENT MOULIN-À-VENT FLEURIE FLEURIE RÉGNIÉ RÉGNIÉ MORGON MORGON JULIÉNAS JULIÉNAS Vougeot Chambolle-Musigny Morey-Saint-Denis CÔTE DE BROUILLY Gevrey-Chambertin Chorey-lès-Beaune Savigny Saint-Aubin BEAUJOLAIS Domaine Pierre Gelin Domaine Michel Magnien Domaine Jean Grivot Domaine Tollot-Beaut Domaine Alain Chavy Domaine Laurent Cognard Château de Beauregard Domaine Blain Sœur et Frère Domaine Blain-Gagnard Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange Domaine Xavier Monnot BURGUNDY BROUILLY BROUILLY CHIROUBLES CHIROUBLES CHÉNAS CHÉNAS CÔTE DE BROUILLY Château de Beauregard Domaine de la Rochette Gironde BORDEAUX LISTRAC-MÉDOC LISTRAC-MÉDOC BLAYE CÔTE DE BORDEAUX MOULIS-EN-MÉDOC Garonne MÉDOC MÉDOC SAINT-ESTÈPHE SAINT-JULIEN SAINT-JULIEN PAUILLAC PAUILLAC HAUT-MÉDOC MARGAUX BORDEAUX & BORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR PESSAC-LÉOGNAN SAUTERNES GRAVES LIBOURNAIS ENTRE-DEUX-MERS CÔTES DE BOURG Dordogne Château Beau-Site Château L’Eden Château Batailley Château Peymartin Château Fourcas-Borie Château de Fontenille Ségla Domaine de Courteillac Domaine Louis Moreau Château Laplagnotte-Bellevue Croix Canon Clos Beauregard Château de Parenchère Emotions de la Tour Blanche Château Peyrat Ciron SAINT-ÉMILION SAINT-ÉMILION BORDEAUX ENTRE-DEUX-MERS / BORDEAUX & BORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR LALANDE-DE-POMEROL CASTILLON CÔTES DE BORDEAUX GRAVES CÉRONS BARSAC GRAVES CÉRONS BARSAC POMEROL FRONSAC
