Barrier-Bac provides high quality moisture vapor retarder products to the construc-tion industry for application beneath concrete slab-on-grade. Barrier-Bac vapor retarder products are made with virgin polyolefin resins using a patented cross lamination process: this process creates membranes with high puncture strength, low water vapor transmis-sion rates, and high tensile strength.

Our primary products, VB-250 (11 mil) and VB-350 (16 mil) vapor retarder membranes are widely specified on projects across the USA. These vapor retarder materials are avail-able nationwide through a comprehensive network of concrete accessory distributors. Also, our regional sales representatives are well seasoned professionals each having extensive experience and backgrounds dealing with concrete systems and moisture protection.

The Inteplast Group, Ltd. is ISO 9001:2008 certified and manufactures all our vapor retarder products at our plant in Lolita, Texas. All our vapor retarder membranes are manufactured in the USA.

Barrier-Bac also offers a composite system vapor retarder, VBC-350. VBC-350 is made by laminating VB-350 (16 mil) vapor retarder membrane to polypropylene geo-textile. This composite is “state of the art” in vapor retarder technology, and offers the design professional a vapor retarder that has excellent peel adhesion to concrete. This exceptional peel adhesion eliminates the risk of under slab pocketing and is an attractive alternative to standard vapor retarder systems which have little or no peel adhesion to bottom of the concrete slab-on-grade.

Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is a ribbed 30 mil tape providing high adhesive strength to seal all seams. Just like our Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder, the tape membrane is manu-factured from virgin resin to ensure long life expectancy under ground. This ribbed tape forms an interlocking mechanical bond with the ribbed Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder and tightly blocks moisture migration from entering the building. Compared to the 8 or 9 mil thickness of tapes offered by competitors, Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is the most perma-nent solution to eliminate moisture intrusion through seams.

In summary, Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder products offer the following favorable attri-butes to the project owner, designer and contractor:

• Patented Cross Lamination Process• Exceeds ASTM E1745 Class A, B, C Requirements• Nationwide Distribution Network• ISO 9001:2008 Certified Quality Production• Made In USA, Certificate of Origin Provided• Composite Vapor Retarder with Excellent Peel Adhesion• 30 mil Ribbed Seam Tape Completely Blocks Moisture

Please consider using Barrier-Bac vapor retarder products on your next project: our proven materials will perform consistently and contribute to the success of your project.

3.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Uses: Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is a proprietary, self adhesive composite membrane, uniquely combining high strength and low temperature adhesion into a superior barrier to limit moisture transmission.

As part of the Barrier-Bac Vapor Barrier systems, Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is formulated to be installed in ambient temperatures of 25°F and above to provide a strong bond to overlap seams, penetra-tions and repairs.

3.1 COMPOSITION

Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is a ribbed 30 mil thick tape providing a very high adhesive strength to seal all seams. The tough outer layer is a 5 mil multi-ply, textured, cross laminated membrane manufac-tured from virgin Polyethylene resin and has long life expectancy under ground. The adhesive coating is a 25 mil proprietary modified asphalt that offers superior adhesive strength in low temperature.

This ribbed Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape works per-fectly with Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder products to form an interlocking mechanical bond and tightly blocks moisture migration from entering through seams.

3.2 SIZE & PACKAGING

Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape is available in standard size of 4˝ ≈ 150 ft roll.Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape weighs approximately 10 pounds per roll.9 rolls of Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape are packed in a white carton.180 rolls Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape are on a pallet.

5.0 INSTALLATION

• All surfaces must be clean, dry and smooth.• Remove the release sheet. Roll Barrier-Bac XF

Seam Tape firmly to insure uniform contact with Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder.• Use of a 26 lbs. or heavier, rubber roller to roll

over the seam area is recommended to insure good initial adhesion.

Seam:

• Install Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder per manu-facturer’s recommendations and overlap seams a minimum of 6 .̋ Seal overlap seams with Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape.

Slab Penetration:

• Fabricate a pipe boot by cutting a section of Bar-rier-Bac Vapor Retarder a minimum of 12˝ wide and 1½ times the pipe circumference. Cut slits in Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder to ½ the width. Wrap the pipe penetration with slits extending out onto the Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder. Tape around pipe and at base with Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape.•When applying Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape in

ambient temperatures below 40°F, store Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape at room temperature (77°F) until use and prime the substrate with a polymer or solvent based primer to get good adhesion.• Pallets of Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape should not

be double stacked in storage or at job site, and always provide cover on top and all sides of pallets stored at job site.

1. Inspect base onto which Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder is to be installed to ensure a rela-tively smooth surface. Although Barrier-Bac products are extremely tough, installation is easier and more effective when done over a smooth base. Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder may be installed over tamped earth, sand or an aggregate base course.

2. The Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder should be unrolled to completely cover the pour area. Seams and /or joints can be joined using either Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape or with heat welding. Vapor Barrier film should be overlapped 6 inches including side-to-side and end-to-end taped seams.

3. For installation of Barrier-Bac Composite Vapor Retarder (VBC-350), the black geo-textile side has to be placed facing up. The geo-textile will form a mechanical bond with the concrete poured and generate excellent peel adhesion.

4. Place the film butt end on top of the footing and up against the vertical wall (See Step 3 On Top of the Footing). This placement method will provide the needed protection from outside moisture following construction completion.

5. Before using the Barrier-Bac XF Seam Tape, please make sure all surfaces must be clean dry and smooth. Then remove the release sheet of tape, roll tape firmly to insure uniform contact with Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder. Use of a 26 lbs. or heavier, rubber roller to roll over the seam area is recommended to insure good initial adhesion.

6. All penetrations must be sealed with a Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder and XF Seam Tape. This may be done traditionally, or through a pipe boot and block out seaming method, which also uses Barrier-Bac Vapor Retarder and XF seam Tape (See Step 4A, 4B).

7. All damages to the Vapor Retarder must be sealed prior to pour. Patch all damaged areas with film and seam tape prior to concrete pour (Step 5).
