Sequin’s StoryOne day I met Teresa in the park
to take Taffy for a walk. We had a great time. Taffy is very friendly
and happily greeted all the children and dogs she came across. Teresa and
I were chatting as we walked over a little bridge.
Just then, we heard a rustle in the bushes. I got
a bit of a fright, but Taffy dived straight in without a care.
“Taffy!” I called, hoping the
rustle wasn’t from
something dangerous. Taffy bounded straight
out, tail wagging.
6
Do you know the story of how Sequin came to be in my life? Here’s what happened!
“Must have been a bird,” I said to Teresa, and we carried on walking. But Taffy didn’t follow. She sat right in front of the bush, as though waiting for something. We went back, and I peered into the bush to see what Taffy was staring at.
There, hiding under the leaves, was a very dirty little puppy. She was too scared to come out, but when I took out some of Taffy’s treats, she came to me straight away.
“She’s starving!” Teresa exclaimed. “I wonder how long she’s been out here?”
“I’m not sure,” I said. “But I’m sure someone is missing her very much. Let’s take her home and feed her, then we can decide what to do.”
So Teresa, Taffy and I took the fluffy, dirty puppy back to my house. I carried her, and she snuggled into my arms. I loved her already!
After a good meal, and a great deal of fuss from my sisters, the puppy was given a bath. I was ready for her to shake all over and try and jump out of the water, but she seemed to enjoy being shampooed. To my surprise, she was not brown after all. In fact, she was
pure white! She was a Poodle!“Who would have guessed you’d
clean up so well?” I asked her as I blow-dried her beautiful fur. She seemed happy to be clean, and was even happier when I put a sparkly bow in her fur.
I took a photo of her, and Skipper made a flyer. We stuck them up everywhere. I also phoned all the vets and animal shelters to let them know where her owners could find her.
However, weeks passed, and I didn’t hear a thing. In the meantime, the puppy stole my heart more and more every day, and I actually started dreading the phone call that would mean she had to leave.
After two months I decided that she was now mine, and I christened her with the name Sequin, because of her love of all things sparkly. Even though she is girly, she is not afraid to get dirty when she plays - she knows a bath will fix that quickly! She’s a lovely dog, and I love to tell people the story of how she came to be in my life.

Dogs like games such as fetch (throwing a ball or toy) and hide and seek. They also like to learn tricks and go for walks.
Dogs don’t like it when you touch their food, try to pull toys away from them, disturb them when they are sleeping or get too close to their faces.
Remember that dogs have much better hearing than people do, so don’t shout near them.
If your dog puts his tail between his legs, he is scared and you should leave him alone.
Treats are a great way to teach your dog cool tricks, like how to sit, lie down or roll over. Yum!
You should never be rough with a dog. Don’t pull his ears or tail, lie on him or squeeze him. People like hugs and kisses, but dogs don’t always like them. Rather pat them nicely on the back or scratch them on the neck to show them you love them.

Annie is a happy, street-smart foster kid who was abandoned by
her parents as a baby. She lives in a foster home run by mean Miss Hannigan. Then, one day, she is saved from an oncoming car in the street by Will Stacks, who is running for mayor. He thinks taking Annie in will make him look good for his campaign. He thinks he is doing Annie a favour but, as it turns out, it’s actually the other way around …
She stars as Sandy, the gorgeous dog from the film Annie. Here are five
things you should know about Marti the dog:1. She is a rescue dog who was in a
shelter for a year and a half before being found.
2. She is half Golden Retriever and half Chow Chow.
3. Quvenzhane Wallis, who plays Annie, says that Marti is a happy dog who always looks like she is smiling.
4. She arrived at the movie’s premiere in a limousine. Since Annie, she has starred in some theatre plays.
5. She was the 16th dog to audition and was chosen because she was very good at obeying her trainer’s commands.

Barbie Visits Paris
O ne day I was in France for a fashion show. Being completely her thing, I had brought Sequin with me. I was excited because we
were also visiting with my Aunt Millie, who lives in Paris, the capital of France, where the show was taking place.
We had a lovely time. We had long lunches and soaked up the sun. The fashion show went well. Sequin sat in the front row as a VIP and felt very special indeed. Designers and models fussed over her, and she loved every second of it.
When the show was over, we spent a few extra days with Aunt Millie. I decided that we had to visit the Eiffel Tower, so we headed off. As luck would have it, I bumped into an old friend there, and we got chatting. I was so absorbed in our conversation that I didn’t realise Sequin had disappeared!
As requested by Senchia
Mkhize Nair and Salne Vosloo!
22
The End
Sequin and I visit the capital of France in this awesome stoory
“Oh no, where is she?” I exclaimed, in a panic.“I’ll help you find her,” my friend said.So we set off, calling her name and asking
strangers if they had seen her. Our search took us all over Paris. Aunt Millie came to help, and some kind strangers also offered. Soon we had quite a search party going.
We searched the Louvre (an impressive art gallery where the famous painting the Mona Lisa is), which was difficult because there were long queues, and climbed the 400 stairs in the Notre Dame Cathedral. We searched around the Arc de Triomphe (a very big arch) and even took a
boat down the Seine River hoping to spot her along its banks.
Finally someone suggested we climb up the Eiffel Tower and look down,
because we’d have a much better view from up there. We didn’t have time to wait in a
queue for the lifts, so we climbed what felt like 1,000 stairs to get to the
second level of the tower. We were high enough now to have a great view, so we started searching. A kind old man lent me his binoculars, and I searched all around. Finally, I spotted her! And she wasn’t alone …
“I’ve found her,” I yelled to my friend. “Let’s go, quickly!”
We sprinted back down the stairs and ran across the grounds to the spot where
I had seen her. Sequin bounded up to me to say hello, and behind her followed a male Poodle. Sequin had clearly been playing with Jacques (as his name tag stated) and didn’t even know I had been looking for her.
My crowd of helpers cheered, and I thanked them all. What wonderful people!
Just then, a frantic man pushed through the crowd. “Jacques!” he yelled. “There you are!”
As it turned out, Jacques’ owner had been looking for him too!
Jacques and his owner joined Sequin and me for a drink, and we chatted while the dogs played some more. He told me all about France, and I decided that I would have to take five more trips just to see it all. Paris is the capital, and it is very exciting, but my next trip would be to the countryside. I was excited that Sequin had introduced me to a new friend. We swapped details and said we would stay in touch.
Sequin and Jacques didn’t want to part. I could tell she was going to miss him, but I assured her we would still keep in contact, and that she could come with the next time I came to France and visit him.
What a wonderful trip it was!

Gorillas5 Cool Things About
Along with other great apes, bonobos, orangutans and chimpanzees are the CLOSEST RELATIVES TO HUMANS.Their arms are longer than their legs and they can either WALK UPRIGHT, or on all fours using their knuckles.Gorillas are VERY ENDANGERED and two of the four species have less than 1,000 individuals left in the wild! They are HERBIVORES, which mean they eat plants, roots, shoots and fruits. The males are the leaders of the group. They decide when the group eats, sleeps and moves. They are called SILVERBACKS because of their silver-coloured fur on their backs.
