Do You Smell Something Roen in the
Neighbourhood?
Are you red of having to close your windows on a warm evening because of a bad smell in the air?
Then call the City at their 24 hour contact line and complain. The more complaints the city receives, the more likely they are to do
something about the problem. In fact, the city is tracking the number of complaint calls before they will act. If one or two people
complain, they will send someone out the next day to take a reading of the odor. Of course, by then it is too late and no odor will
be recorded. If several people complain, they will send someone out immediately to take a reading.

Working together to give kids the best start in life!
Do you have ideas about how communities in North East Ed- monton can support young children?
The Coalition wants to hear from you… Did you know that a child’s experiences, between the ages of 0 – 6, shapes actual brain growth? Children’s early
experiences have a lifelong impact on school, work, health, relationships and well -being.
The North East Edmonton Early Childhood Development Coalition (Coalition) is a group of community membersand service providers working together to improve early childhood development opportunities (0-6 years of age) in their neighborhood.
“Everyone has a stake in making sure that the children in our community have the best possible start in life,” says Amanda Gibson, the Chair of the Coalition. “It truly does take a community to raise a child.” Presentations and discussions are now being planned with community groups, associations, drop in groups, and
schools, etc. to discuss how children living in North East Edmonton are developing and ways to support young childrenand their families. The conversations will be informed by what is coming out of the Early Childhood Development Map-
ping Initiative. (www.ecmap.ca)
Coalition members want to connect with people who live and/or work in North East Edmonton through presenta-tions, by attending events or to simply chatting about the importance of positive early experiences for children.
Through these community conversations, the Coalition will collect answers to questions like…
What are some ideas to make North East Edmonton a community that offers lots of positive experi-ences for young children and their families?
What can we do to make our communities more child-friendly?
How can we create safe, supportive and interesting places for children to grow up in and have thekinds of opportunities that will help them to succeed?
What will we do with this information?
We’ll act on what we know! The results from the ECMap project and community conversations will show strengths andgaps in programming, facilities and services. Discussions over the next few months will inform ideas for action plans.
Also, communities can access funding, in terms of limited grants, to implement action plans that will build communitycapacity and knowledge to promote early childhood development.
For more information, contact the Community Coordinator today.
