Summer Internship Details
Participants will help researchers unlock medical and scientific mysteries in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
The goal of this program is to inspire students – not only to embrace science and/or medicine as a career choice, but to provide encouragement to continue scientific studies throughout their academic careers. Interns come from diverse backgrounds from local high schools to colleges around the country, such as Stanford University and Yale University.
Some student intern experiences provide hands-on instruction in basic scientific techniques, which may include solution preparation, pipetting, microscopy, centrifugation, and cell culture. While other experiences will include clinical social work, public health, psychology and epidemiology. We encourage a broad range of students with diverse skills and interests to apply.
Applications for the Banner Research / ASU-Biodesign Summer Internship Program

The program was founded in 2003 by Banner Health and is designed to increase high school seniors and college undergraduate students’ interest and literacy in science and research by expanding their learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. This eight-week paid internship offers top achieving and highly motivated science students the opportunity to work and learn alongside nationally renowned physicians and researchers.
The summer program provides interns the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge scientific and medical research environment showcasing the latest equipment and techniques. Students are exposed to ongoing research projects and participate in well-defined protocols that can be completed during the summer.
Interns will conduct basic and clinical research at one of four locations in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area:
