POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING (PBL)
FOR THIS FORTNIGHT
VALUE: SELF MANAGEMENT & DECISION MAKING
This fortnight, we are focussing on helping our students to make informed decisions for the learning and safety of themselves and others
I can decide the best place to sit during class
to help me focus on my work.
I can discuss my ideas with the people around me to help me make good decisions.
FOCUS: PLAYGROUND
I choose a safe way to cross the playground without interfering in others’ games.
I choose kind words when I speak to others. I think about the words I say BEFORE I say them.
Looking to continue the discussion at home? Here are some possible ways to start the conversation:
Can you think of a decision you had to make today?
o Was it hard or easy? Why?
o Would you do something differently if you got a chance to decide again? If so,
what?
What are some kinds of decisions you often find yourself making?
What is the hardest decision you’ve had to make? How did you work it out?
GOAL SETTING INTERVIEWS
During week 6 we are hosting ‘Goal Setting Interviews’, which will be attended by the student, teacher and
parents. The aim of these interviews is to set relevant goals for each student. To book an interview, log on to:

DISTRUPTIONS TO LEARNING
It has come to my attention that some parents are walking into their child’s classroom during learning time which obviously disrupts student learning. If you would like to speak to the teacher, after 3pm
is usually a good time or you may make an appointment.
BIRTHDAY TREATS
I would like to clarify a few protocols –
1. Please don’t send cakes which need to be sliced into 25 pieces, the teacher doesn’t
have time for this. 2. Please don’t deliver the lolly bags during
class time (fruit break or just before home
time is best) 3. Teachers will give students lolly bags at
home time which allows parents to monitor their child’s sugar intake.
4. Inform your child’s teacher at least one week before to allow the teacher to ensure an even distribution.
This has come to light as one class had six lolly bags
per student sent home in two weeks.
LUNCHTIME CLUBS
Miss Webster will be running 2 clubs during the
second half of lunch on Mondays and Thursdays. Participation in these clubs is free and they are both
open to all students in Years 3-6.They are: Ukulele Club (Monday lunchtime) - This club is for
beginners who want to learn basic chords and songs on a ukulele (no ukulele needed you can use the
school’s instruments). Researchers have linked playing a musical instrument to a wide range of
positive outcomes in children and adults including increased intelligence, memory, and perseverance as well as decreased stress. Learn more about how
playing a musical instrument engages multiple parts of the brain in this short animated TED talk-
learn basic coding skills by completing online lessons
and activities through the Australian Computing Academy’s website - Grok Learning.
P&C AUXILLIARY MEETING
Monday 24th February at 9.30am will be our first P & C auxiliary meeting for 2020 held in the hub. This is not an
official P & C meeting although it is an opportunity to share the minutes from the previous meeting and put forward topics you would like discussed at the next P &
C Meeting. Also our Hub Leader Ms Leonie Williams will provide the latest information on upcoming Hub events.
PARENT WORKSHOP – HOMEWORK
We are conducting a series of parent workshops which
are designed to provide parents with practical ideas regarding ways they may help their child with homework.
Our specific focus is literacy Kindergarten – Monday 2nd March (2:15 – 3pm) in the
library Year 1 and 2 – Monday 16th March (2:15 – 3pm) in the library
As we did last year, parents will then be invited into
classrooms to work alongside their child. Stage 2 (Year 3 & 4) and Stage 3 (Year 5 & 6) parent
workshops will also occur in the coming months.
SCHOOL PHOTOS on Tuesday 17th March
Envelopes for school photos will be sent home on
Tuesday 3rd March. Various packages are available as per the information page below. To ensure that photo day runs smoothly, individual photo envelopes are pre-
printed with the students’ name. Students should bring their envelopes on the day (even if not buying) with
the exact money enclosed. Teachers and office staff
can not hold money at the school. Sibling photo envelopes will be available at the office.
HEALTH CARE ACTION PLAN
It is important for parents/carers check their child’s current health care action plan and if necessary, please visit the doctor or specialist to update.
SCRIPTURE TEACHERS
Mrs Elakhras is looking for 2 volunteers to teach Islamic Scripture in Kindergarten. All training and materials will be supplied. Scripture is every
Wednesday from 2:15pm – 3pm. Please see Mrs Delpech if you can help.
SCHOOL BANKING
Yellow deposit wallets can be brought to school on Thursdays only. It does not cost any money to
participate in school banking and your child will learn
about saving. Once a student collects 10 tokens, they can redeem a reward.
