About Us 2012

Ballet Shoes is the new and exciting Fashion and Ballet annual magazine for teenage ballerinas. Sharing a love for Fashion, Clothes, Catwalk shows and Ballet here we combine everything into a small magazine you can take anywhere with you. It’s a perfect and fun way to bring both worlds together. Here at Ballet Shoes we believe in both Fashion and Ballet and we don’t see why the two should be separated. Both industries have a massive affect on each other; by gaining inspiration and influences from one another. They both complement each other and our job is to bring you the latest Ballet inspired fashion updates. This is the place to be to find the latest Ballet inspired Catwalk trends, along with the top designers who have collaborated and have been involved with designing costumes for the ballet such as Chanel, Michael Kors, Julien Macdonald, Moschino, Chloe, Erdem, Valentino and many more incredible names. Furthermore, we have also got amazing places to visit such as exhibitions to feel inspired by ballet and to learn about the graceful and elegant art itself and the history behind it and how it is seen today.

Our Magazine Ethos 2012

WE BELIEVE: Fashion is beauty and a form of art that everyone should enjoy no matter what your fashion sense is. There is no wrong or right way of dressing just like there is no wrong or right way of dancing, you must allow yourself to try new things and express how you feel without being afraid of getting it wrong. Ballet is an elegant and graceful art and once you see the beauty behind it that everyone is being inspired by you will begin to take more pride in the art you do, as not a lot of people can dance to your standard. Haute Couture in fashion is very similar to designing a tutu for ballet. They both take time and effort and are both treated with the highest level of care and attention. The pure detail in each ballerina’s tutu is incredible. Talented would be an understatement for all the designers who make them. They need to take into account your movements and the way you will move and feel in your costume. They way you feel reflects the way you dance. Ballet Shoes believes that every ballerina should feel like a million dollars from the minute she steps into her costume regardless of if she’s having the worse day. She should feel like a star and this should be reflected by the way she dances. We want you to combine your two loves for fashion and ballet and bring them together as one. As soon as you get home, don’t throw your tutu and leotard on your floor and get the sweatpants out. Take it off with delicacy and care and hang it up on the most sparkly hanger you have and cover it up until next time. We want you to see the links with the amazing designers you one day aspire to afford and have pieces of their clothing. Recognise that the art you do, they are being inspired by it and incorporate it into their collections. Imagine you are walking down that catwalk. Dance with confidence and dance as though you have the world at your feet. All eyes are on you. We believe in confidence and we believe in the beautiful art of ballet and fashion. We want YOU to believe it too. Make the two worlds meet with joy, happiness and inspiration.

Our Magazine Direction 2012

At Ballet Shoes we believe in having a brilliant content and we believe that it should be just as equal on both the written and visual side. We want to provide the best for our readers and we mixed our content up with each issue and under pick a new theme each time. For our first issue we wanted to make it girly, light and fresh. We wanted to attract all the girly girls who love fashion and we wanted to make Ballet Shoes extremely pleasing for the eye. Each issue has a colour focus and with issue one the colour focus is pink and purple. The Visual content is filled with playful, sweet and colourful illustrations. Here at Ballet shoes we are also an illustrative magazine and the visual content is 90% of the time illustrations. The illustrations vary with each issue and include: illustrations of ballerinas, ballet shoes, ballerinas in their posses and many more. In addition we also have photographic images from the catwalks and images of the designers work showcasing their work for the ballet. Our written content includes an annual editor’s letter so that our readers can feel welcome and understand the purpose of our publication and the current theme for each year. It also includes a variety of articles. The articles range from; the history of ballet, the designers work in the ballet, articles on exhibitions and upcoming ballet shows that are inspiring and influential, along with the ballet trends in the catwalks and understanding where the ballet inspired designers received their inspiration.

Audience 2012

At Ballet Shoes our aim is to satisfy and please our readers. Seeing as this is an annual publication we want them to feel over satisfied and thrilled when they are the first to receive their copy. Our audience are young teenage ballerina girls who are aged between 16- 18. We are aware that ballet is also liked and performed by men and therefore the more issues we produce we also cover different aspects of ballet. For example our next ‘The Black Swan’ issue will have a much darker and masculine direction however there is always something in there for the girls as they are our mass majority of our audience. Our Ballet Shoe reader is:

“The girl that everyone aspires to be. Everyone wants to be like her,

everyone wants to have her as a friend and all the girls envy her innocent

smile. She’s the first one to arrive to her ballet lesson and is always seen to

look her best. She has everything under control and is one of the most

hardworking ballerinas. She believes in being a strong, mature, elegant

woman and allows nothing to come in between her dreams. She dances to the

best of her ability and is a perfectionist. A sweet and innocent ballerina is our perfect little Ballet

Shoe. Girls: 96% Boys: 4%

Competition 2012

As Ballet and Fashion are two of the most popular industries in the world it comes as no surprise to us as there is a lot of existing publications already out there. Existing ballet publications such as; Pointe Magazine, ISTD, the dancing times, DANCE are all Ballet Shoes competitors. However.. The one thing we promise to do is deliver inspiration and fun articles on both ballet and fashion. Here at Ballet Shoes we are the only publication that has combined the two worlds together in a fresh new innovative publication format. There is no other existing publication that looks as in depth as we do at the; catwalks, the trends and as to what the designers are doing to feel inspired and to be a part of ballet. We believe that we are one of a kind and we will continue to prove that to our Ballet Shoe readers. We understand your needs and wants and we promise to provide you with fun and motivational articles and fabulous illustrations that will blow your tutus off. No one has ever combined the two topics of ballet and fashion and made quite a link and we believe you girls aren’t going to be disappointed.
