public should make efficient use.“People should start a rescue

because at the moment the quan-tity of clean water is inadequate,” she said.

Chairman of the Indonesia Fishermen Association (HNSI) of

Tabanan, I Ketut Arsana Yasa, hoped that all parties were concerned about the environment around the coast. “Green turtle becomes an important species in maintaining the ecosystem. The number of turtles in the world is continuously declining,” he said.

Formerly, on full moon there were turtles coming to the beach to lay eggs. Now, it rarely hap-pened. The arrival of such protected animals to the beach could even be calculated each year.

The arrival of Miss Indonesia Earth to Tabanan Regency, according to him, was expected to become a moment for the region in encour-aging the tourism sector, chiefly marine tourism.

Meanwhile, Nyoman Adi Wiry-atama, the former Regent of Ta-banan, said the movement of nature conservation was also expected to bring in influence to the internation-al community. v Btnewspaper/Ant/DnI/ Metrotvnews.com

MAyA Ubud is generously sponsoring Yayasan Kopernik’s opening ceremony in Bali as part of the hotel’s commitment to support-ing local community and environment initia-tives. Maya Ubud has provided the highest ‘gold’ level of sponsorship to the event, which will be held on 23 August 2012 at the Kopernik offices in Sayan, Ubud.

Kopernik is a non-profit organization that distributes environmentally friendly life-changing technologies designed for the developing world - such as solar lights, fuel efficient cookstoves, and water filters – to

poor, remote communities. Since the organi-zation’s launch in 2010, Kopernik has reached more than 75,000 people with life-changing technology in 11 countries, and 20,000 people in Indonesia alone. All Kopernik projects are funded by individual and corporate donors who crowd-fund projects of their choice directly via Kopernik’s website (http://www.kopernik.info).

Through it’s Bali based Indonesia office, Kopernik aims to reach many more last-mile

communities across Indo-nesia and spe-cifically in Bali. The technol-ogy Kopernik distributes is s imple , yet life-changing - it means that people can have easy and affordable access to clean water and safe light.

In Bali the organization is already working with elementary schools and edu-cation programs to help children learn about science and technology and the environment through the introduction of fun educational toys to complement the school curriculum.

Kopernik is working with many Indonesian NGO partners to distrib-ute life-changing technologies to those who need them most across the archipelago. To learn about the technologies that Kopernik distrib-utes and the projects the organiza-tion has supported in Indonesia, or perhaps buy technology for yourself, you can visit the Warung Teknologi

(War-tek) at the office in Sayan. And you can always donate to one of Kopernik’s projects by visiting their website: www.kopernik.info or drop into the office at Pondok Wisata Sayan Ayu, Jl. Raya Kedewatan, Banjar Kutuh Sayan, Ubud Bali 80571. And don’t forget to join the opening ceremony on 23 August from 4 until 6pm. There will be a technology exhibition, fun and games and a silent auction to support technology distribution to those who need them most! v Btnewspaper/Pr

IntErCOntInEntAl Bali Resort recent-ly paid a follow-up visit to Bali Life, a non-profit foundation that cares for a group of orphaned children, as part of its ongoing CSR program. Over the past year the Resort has supported Bali Life by securing a small parcel of land with the aim of working towards self-sufficiency.

The visit involved the donation of 3 cows and 5 ducks to help get this sustainability proj-ect underway and discuss future action plans. A team of colleagues from the Resort also participated in the planting of mango trees that will hopefully bear fruit in the years to come.

Bali Life provides a nurtur-ing home environment for 25 disadvantaged children aged from 5 to 15 years. The founda-tion takes full responsibility for the well-being and education of these youngsters by enabling them to grow up in a safe place and eventually become ac-tive members of the local community. The establishment of this small productive farm is providing the chil-dren of Bali Life with valuable new skills and a sense of purpose.

“InterContinental Bali Resort is proud to be involved in such a worthwhile project and it is heartening to see this dream become a reality. By choosing to be self-sufficient and growing their own food, Bali Life is raising new

MUCH of the carbon dioxide gas released into the atmosphere comes from human activities es-pecially the burning of fos-sil fuel, a primary source of energy production and transportation activities. Air transport is respon-sible for two percent of all the CO2 released into the atmosphere. Accord-ing to past records and statistics, air transport grows at the rate of five percent per annum, which translates to an increase of three percent CO2 into the atmosphere annually or equivalent to 20 million tons.

The release of CO2 occurs not only from the burning of fossil fuel, but also throughout its pro-duction process starting from the drilling, trans-porting and refining of crude oil. These activities produce a huge amount of CO2 and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Therefore, the In-ternational Air Transport Association (IATA) has envisioned that the air transport sector must stop contributing to an increase of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions by year 2020, and eventually to reach zero emissions by the year 2057. In order to achieve this target, IATA recommends four major

guidelines for the air transport sector: 1. Development of technology for

both aircraft and engines for low fuel burn as well as aviation biofuels

2. Improvement of flight operations to ensure that effective fuel manage-ment strategy is implemented and reducing weight of the equipment on board

3. Improvement of airport infrastruc-ture and facilities as well as air navigation services for effective air traffic management through the use of modern equipment and technol-ogy

4. Implementation of economic mea-sures such as investment in carbon offset credits

With these four major guidelines, it was found that development of aircraft technol-ogy to become a cleaner/greener technology and effective air traffic management will merely slow down the increase of CO2, but they cannot reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Therefore, research institutes began to conduct studies to develop biofuels for the aviation sector and the use of sustainable feedstocks. These plants must not be a food source, not threatening biodiversity, no competition with fresh water requirements and no deforestation. Those being researched include jatropha, algae, camelina, babassu, halophytes, and switch grass. v Btnewspaper/Pr

MElIá Bali is deeply committed to helping pre-serve the Balinese culture. On Wednesday (18/7), the Mecaru procession of the resort temple’s consecration offered our guests an exciting opportunity to participate in an authentic Balinese Hindu ceremony. The main procession which held at the resort is Mecaru Resigana Cer-emony (performed in the temple) and Mecaru Lebur Sangsa (performed at the hotel area). The ceremony wa s performed to reduce all negatives aura in reversed to positives aura, an essence for a good fortune of the hote l and its contents, for both employees and guests staying at the Meliá Bali.

This ceremony was led by Ida Pedanda Griya Pemaron Munggu ac-companied by Ida Pedanda Istri, Ida Bagus Sudarsana dan Mangku Lubuk

High Flyers Bali:

“I believe. I can fly.”“hIgh Flyers Bali” Trapeze School has

opened at the Bali Dynasty Resort in South Kuta, Bali so that everyone can experience some of the magic and mystique of the circus while visiting this paradise resort. High Flyers @ Bali Dynasty offers ‘trapeze classes’ seven days each week at Rp325,000 for 1¼ hours. Participants can be aged 5 to 65 so all the family can join and make this an unforget-table holiday.

High Flyers @ Bali Dynasty offers a chal-lenging and fun experience within a safe and controlled environment with the aim of facilitat-ing the development of new personal skills and greater self-confidence for the participants. The trapeze activity opened in July 2012 with a small trapeze rig primarily dedicated to in-house hotel guests. The “Mini Volant” is ideally suited for children and teenage guests as its scaled down

height is less scary proposition than a full-sized trapeze rig, making it a valuable addition to the existing resort attractions.

Trapeze is an amazing and versatile activity with many benefits. Until recently, it was exclusively a circus act that drew gasps of amazement from audiences who watched the aerial acrobatics of professionals twisting, somersaulting, and flying through the air.

High Flyers @Bali Dynasty is one of many trapeze schools opening around the world which aims to make this exhilarating activity accessible to the public. Trapeze improves coordination, flexibility and balance as well as teaching creative movement and building core strength. Teamwork and trust are es-sential in this non-competitive activity. Flyers grow in confidence and self-esteem as they overcome their fears and push themselves

to achieve tricks and catches they previously thought impossible.

With each trapeze class, a flyer achieves more tricks to include catches and somer-saults. With a maximum class size of 10 adults or 12 kids each flyer can be given individual attention and time to develop their skills.

High Flyers @ Bali Dynasty Resort operates to the highest safety standards with high quality rigs imported from the USA. The well-trained staff, which includes international trainers, is professional and supportive. High Flyers has established safety and maintenance proce-dures to ensure that all flyers can enjoy this fun and exciting experience without any concerns over personal safety.
