Yesterday our Junior Primary students dressed up, danced and played games for “Olden Days” day.
From the Principal StaffingAt the end of this term we will be farewelling Sidney Harkeness who will begin her maternity leave. We wish Sid and Brayden all the very best for the birth of their baby. We also farewell Sally McArdle who has taught Science in Term 1 and 2. The students love learning alongside Sally and although we will miss her as a contract teacher at BPS in Term 3, we will continue to see her in the capacity as a TRT. Sally will then take maternity leave. We are excited to welcome back Kasey Jenner who returns from maternity leave. Kasey will teach Science in Term 3 and 4. We also congratulate Emily Thomas on her appointment in Ber 3 for the remainder of
KytonsThank you for your support
with our Kytons Fundraiser. Goods will be delivered to BPS on Wednesday and will be available for
collection from the Staff Room after 1:30pm. Please
advise us if you would like your goods to be sent home on the school bus.
How was your day?We often try to have conversations with our children about their day by asking “What did you do at school today?”
More often than not, their response is “nothing”?
Try asking questions such as these to prompt a more indepth discussion about school:• What was something you learnt
today?• What’s one thing that made you
laugh today?• Share three positives from your day• Was there anything that worried you
today?• Were you kind to anyone today?
(What was your act of kindness?)• Was anyone kind to you? (What did
they do?)• What did you do that made someone
smile today?• Can you share something with me
about your day today?• If you could change one thing about
your day, what would it be?

SApSASA FootbAllOn the 21st of June, Macy, Scarlett, Matilda, Mia, Alexa, Tahlia, Aliyse, Brianna, Tayla and two Snowtown girls, Trin and Trinity played football in Burra. The first game was against Clare 2 it was nerve racking because it was our first game but we won anyway. The score was 29 to 7. We had a little break and ate recess, then we played our second game against Clare 1. The game was kind of rough but in the end we lost even though we tried our hardest. The third game was against Burra, the score was 25 to 7 and we won. In the grand final team 1 and 2 versed each other and team 3 and 4 versed each other. We were in second place so that meant that we versed Clare 1, and we won the grand final against them. The score was 62 to 26. It was an awesome day and everyone enjoyed it.
- By Scarlett, Macy and Matilda
On Monday the 21st of June, I and a bunch of other girls played school girls football at Burra. There were four year fives and four year sevens, the years five were Alexa, Tahlia, Aliyse, Brianna and two Snowtown girls and one Horizon. The year sevens were Macy, Matilda, Scarlett and me. Our team played against Clare 2, we won and the score was 29 to 7, it was really fun to get out and play football but I was really nervous to play. In between we had about 10 minutes break and had recess. Our 2nd game was against Clare 1 we lost and it was 6 to 20, it was really rough but we tried really hard. Our 3rd game we played against Burra and we won the score was 25 to 7, we had a really fun time and we played great as a team. Then we had the grand final we were 2nd and if we won we would be 1st so we tried really hard and put in all our effort and played great as a team,
and over all we were losing but we didn’t drop our heads and kept going and we won and came first the score was 62 to 26. Over all I had a really fun time playing football. - Mia4
Hi Everyone,We are now well into our Week 9 and the holidays will soon be upon us. What are your plans for these mid-year holidays?
My holiday break will hopefully include some bush camping (somewhere) but whether I get away, or not, the plan is to enjoy the great outdoors and get some much-needed R&R. So, if the “great outdoors” takes the form of weeding the garden or pruning the fruit trees, it is still a good day!
I do hope that you have a restful holiday and that, whatever you do, you enjoy time with family and appreciate the break from the busyness that the school term brings.
LAST CRAFT DAY: As there are always an eager bunch of children asking when “Making Day” is, there will be one more craft session offered for this term - next Tuesday, Week 10 – before we resume in Week 2 of Term 3.
FYI: I will be at the school this Thursday (Week 9) and next Tuesday (Week 10) before I break for the holidays.
Have a great holiday break, take care and I will see you in Term 3.- MRS G

Wrapping Up/ New BeginningsAs reports are being finalised, students are moving into new topics within the arts and technology subjects. Some of the upper year level classes have already begun new projects and assignments which will be paused over the holidays before resuming and finalising in the first few weeks of term 3. With all classes exploring movement and dance, there’s plenty of new things to discuss at home about what is going on at school.
Eisteddfod CloseTypically the end of the Balaklava Eisteddfod would finish with a closing ceremony supported by combined local choirs. The choir will not be required as there will be no closing ceremony (Sunday event) this year.
Eisteddfod UpdateFriday 30th July is the Balaklava Eisteddfod. Students in Vocal Ensemble, Instrumental Ensemble and Rock Band will be performing in various locations around Balaklava. More information will be coming soon, however a lot of the typical questions can be answered from the initial form that went home in Term 1. If you have misplaced this, I will be reposting it on Seesaw soon.
As Eisteddfod looms, there may be additional rehearsals. I will be speaking to each group to discuss an appropriate time. This might mean that dance is postponed until after Eisteddfod as their performances aren’t until Term 4.
Music CaptainsWell done to Sophia, Maiya, Charli and Gemma for all their hard work this semester. These captains work hard to remind band members of rehearsals, time changes and yard star delegation after each rehearsal. These students often check in with me during the week to see what we’re doing during rehearsals and some are in multiple groups. Amazing work captains - keep it up.
Magic MillionsBoth rehearsals and the performance will be at the Entertainment Centre. The performance will be on the 25th August and will likely last over a half a day due to travel. A detailed notes will be going home soon to the selected year 5-7 students.
Balaklava ShowWe have been invited to sing the National Anthem and a few songs at the official opening of the Balaklava Show. The Balaklava show will be held on Saturday 25th September and the opening is at 11:45am. This is the first day of the school holidays!
Year 3 and 4 students are welcome to join us, should they wish, however I will need to confirm numbers with the Balaklava Show council so as to gain the right amount of free passes for our performers.

Junior and middle primary students are looking into displaying data. Here are photos from Rooms 6, 7, B1, B3 and 14A showing ways we could answer the question ‘did more boys or girls attend school today’.
We discussed which photos were the easiest to immediately know the answer, which ones were confusing, and important elements of displaying data, such as not grouping with the opposite gender when trying to isolate the different groups quickly and the importance of spacing and height order.
Room 6 also explored the data regarding what shoe colour was the most popular. This revelation inspired a lot of discussion about what other differences and similarities we had.

This week World of maths came to our school to show the students some clever interactive maths games to play. Each game is designed to mathmatically stimulate the students mind in a different way.

On Friday last week Andrew and Craig came to our school to teach us Religious Education. First of all, we played a game called Islands, then we learnt what the Bible is. The Bible is illegal in some places across the world. If you get caught with one in one of those places you go to jail. The Bible reflects on some of the laws today and the Bible is also one of the most bought books around the world. The last game we played was rock paper scissors, the winners in both games got a bouncy ball each.

There is a willing band of students, who over the days ahead, are undertaking the spreading of softfall across our playgrounds. 20
SoFt FAll
A week go we were fortunate to have a parent, BJ Dall, use equipment to shift our recently purchased pile of soft fall into all our play areas. We have to regularly replenish our soft fall as over time it compacts down. To keep our play grounds as safe as possible we are undertaking a two part process. As well as topping up the soft fall we are reinvigorating the soft fall by rotary hoeing it. This was completed earlier in the term when another parent, Sonja Gangell, put her rotary hoe through our soft fall areas. - Kym
