Time Period of the DegreeThe usual time limit for the completion of degree program sha ll be (depending
upon the nature of program) two, four or five years from the beginning ofthe
earliest course counted towards the degree.
Each academic year shall consist of two semesters. However, the period of
study may be extended for one additional year (two semesters) in case of 2-
year program, two additional years (four semesters) for 4-year program and 3
years (six semesters) for 5 - year degree program beyond the usual time limit
required for any degree program.
The additional time for the completion of the degree will be calculated from
the date of announcement of the result of the final semester of session in
which the student was originally enrolled.
A student shall be treated as a casual student if he/she has been detained in
the class or has taken semester break or repeating the course(s) and shall be
required to complete the course(s) within a maximum period as prescribed in
1(i).
The students who do not complete studies within the prescribed period will
have their names struck off from the rolls of the college until otherwise
decided by the Syndicate of Bahauddin Zakariya University.
The students who have been given the right to extend the duration of study
for additional time period must get enrolled after approval (if applicable) and
pay semester and other applicable fees / dues for these years.

2. Time Schedulei. There shall be two regular semesters in one academic year along with the
possibility of summer semester during summer vacationsl.
ii. Each regular semester shall be of 18 weeks' duration, out of which 15 weeks
for teaching, two weeks for conduct of examination and one week for the
preparation of results. However, the Summer Semester shall be of two
months'duration.

as decided / notified by the university
3. AdmissionAdmission regulations will be notified from time to time by Bahauddin Zakariya
University for each program and these will be mandatory for colleges.
a. Colleges may not complete their admissions before BZU completes its
admission process for the BS and associate degree programs.
The number of seats in all programs will be determined by the university.
Admissions will be allowed only in morning classes unless specified otherwise.
For admission in a BS and Associate Degree (AD) Programs, affiliated colleges
will follow the minimum eligibility criteria used for the corresponding degree
programs at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.
4. RegistrationAffiliated colleges will send lists of students (registration returns) admitted in
all BS and associate degree programs to the Registration Branch (Registrar's
office) of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan within one month after the
admissions have been finalized as per the procedure prescribed by Bahauddin
Zaka riya University.
The registration fee as prescribed by the university must be paid in full and the
proof of payment (i.e. original bank challan etc.) must be attached with the
registration retu rn(s).
The registration returns will not be accepted without registration fee.
ln case the affiliated colleges do not submit the registration returns within due
time, the late fee will be imposed on the college as per following details:
a. Late up to 15 days =Rs. 500/- per student
b. From 15 days to one month = Rs. 1000/- per student

c. More than one month tillfinalexamination of 1st semester = double of
the registration fee13.
only those students who have been registered by BZU will be allowed to
appear in the final examinations of the 1't semester.
Attendancea. AttendanceRequirements:
Students are expected to attend regularly all lectures, laboratory periods,
semester sessions and field work as may be specifically required for each
cou rse.
A maximum of 25% absence is allowed for undergraduate and associate
degree programs.
Deficiency, i.e. inability to pass a course on the basis of shortage of attendance
shall be treated as a failure in that course unless withdrawal is allowed by the
Principal of the college and duly communicated to the Controller of
Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan 15 days before the
start of the final examination of the current semester. Such a failure on the
record of a student will have all the implications of deficiency for the purpose
of determining "Good Standing" of a student:
b. Attendance & Stuck-off Regulations:
Each teacher / course instructor is required to maintain the attendance record
for every student enrolled in the course.
Attendance List of each course will be displayed on the notice board, at least
two weeks before the commencement of the final examination.
ln case of any deficiency in attendance, properly notified through the notice
board, the student will not be allowed to sit in the final examination otherwise
concerned teacher will be responsible in case of any issue.
Students having less than required class attendance in a particular course will
be required to repeat the course in any regular semester, summer semester or

6. Course and SyllabiThe courses to be offered will be announced by the university at the time of
admission with a course description of each course and these course outlines
will be available with the respective department / school / institute of the
Bahauddin Zakarjya University / website of the university / focal person for BS
and Associate Degree Programs for affiliated colleges. All teachers will strictly
follow the course outlines and syllabus accordingly.
The teacher concerned will prepare a file consisting of lecture plan (course
outline distributed in a single lecture/ per week) with objectives ofthe course,
course contents, and giving information about the assignment, quizzes, term
papers etc, forming components ofthe course.
7. Examination and Grading Systemi. No student shall be eligible to appear in any examination unless he/she is
enrolled in the college, has paid all the necessary university examination fees
and got registration as per university rules.
ii. Performance of students shall be evaluated through a system of continuous
testing spread over the entire period of studies. Besides the course
examination, there shall be a number oftests and short q u izzes. Moreover, the
performance of students in class dlscussions, presentations, written
assignments, research reports etc., shall be evaluated and form a part of their
overa ll grad es.

University and these students shall not be allowed to appear in the final
examinations.
v. The principal of the college can give further relaxation up to 5% deficiency in
the attendance of the student.
vi. A leave will always be counted as absence.
vii. ln case the student remains absent from the class for seven consecutive days
without intimation and proper justification, his/her name will be removed
from the rolls. However, intimation of absence will not be considered as leave.

There shall be two examinations for each course during each semester. These
examinations shall be named Midterm and Final-term examination.
The following weightage shall strictly be followed.
ln course Evaluation
o Midterm Examination: 30 Marks
r Final-term Examination: 60 Marks (50 + 10 in case of course with
p ractica l)
o Sessional: 10 Marks
r Total Marks: 100 Marks
The Midterm examination shall normally be held after 8 week of class work
from the commencement of the course. The Final examination shall be held at
the end of the semester consisting complete syllabus. The final examination
will be conducted according to the schedule (i.e. date sheet) announced by
BZU.
Format of the question papers of final-term examination will be decided by the
Convener of Board of Studies of concerned department / school / institute /college of the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.
There will be no choice in questions in Midterm as well as final term exam
pa per.
Each course sha ll carry at least two home assignments or one term paper, class
presentations and quizzes.
Minimum pass marks for promotion to next semester are SOYo - C Grade,
Students will also have to do a 9 weeks internship with any concerned
organization, where applicable.
To examine all problems regarding uniformity in midterm examinations before
the declaration of results for the term as well as appeals from the students or
teacher or any other related matter, examination committee of concerned
college shall be authorized for making decisions. The decisions of the
committee shall be final.

x The approved examination fees for exams will be paid by the students to the
university account as per schedule given by the Controller of Examinations of
Bahauddin Zakariya University through respective college.
The duration for various examinations shall be as follows:
a. Midterm Examination: at least 90 minutes
b. FinalTerm Examination: at least 120 minutes
c. Practical (where applicable) 180 minutes
Midterm Examination:
The College will be responsible to conduct and evaluate exams of midterm and
sessional.
The schedule (i.e, date sheet) of the midterm examinations will be displayed
by the college well ahead of time (at least 15 days before the commencement
of examinations) and will be intimated to the Controller of Examinations of
Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.
The respective teacher from the college who is teaching that course will
prepare and mark the midterm paper.
The determination of the form of midterm examination will be left to the
teacher concerned.
It is mandatory to show the marked answer sheets / answer books of midterm
examination in the class by the respective teacher before submission of the
results to the controller office. The marked answer books shall be taken back
immediately by the teacher after the students have gone through their answer
books.
The college shall keep the marked answer books of midterm examinations in
safe custody for at least two years beyond the degree completion time.
ln case a student is not satisfied with his/her award even after checking his/her
answer book, or clarification from the teacher, he/she may make written
complaint to the Principal on the same day or day after that when midterm
answer book has been shown to the students. The Principal will refer his/her
case to college Examination Committee for the final decision.

Final-Term Examination:
The Controller of Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University will be
responsible for conducting the Final-tem Examination (theory & practical) at
the end of each semester.
The final-term paper of each course shall be prepared by one internal and one
external examiner appointed by the Board of Studies of the respective
department / institute / school / college of Bahauddin Zakariya University.
The Controller of Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University will be
responsible for evaluation of answer books and declaration of result of the
fin al term examinations.

It. There must be at least 10 students enrolled in the course in order to start the
summer course. However, in case of less than 10 students, the special approval
must be taken from the Vice Chancellor ofthe Bahauddin Zakariya University.
The students will be allowed to take summer semester only for failed courses.
a. No advance course will be allowed.
b. The summer semester cannot be used to improve the grades / CGPA.
However, students required to improve their CGPA to 2.20 for the
successful completion of the degree can improve th eir CGPA in summer
semester (if offered by the college).
The dropout students will not be entertained in the summer semester.
The students are allowed to take maximum of two courses in the summer
semester.
Students opting internship are not allowed to take course (s) in summer
semester.
There will be no financial liability on the part of the University for the conduct
of summer semester.

10. Special Semesterln some special cases where the students after appearing in the final-term
examination of last semester required to clear / pass certain courses of
previous semester and the maximum allowed time for the completion of the
degree is less than 5 months, a special semester can be offered.
The approval of the special semester will be granted by the Vice Chancellor of
Bahauddin Zakariya University on the written request of the Principal of the
concerned college who will clearly state the reason / rationale for special
semester.
The student can take maximum of 15 credits in special semester.
The duration of the special semester will be exactly like any other regular
semester.
The examination, registration and fee regulations for the regular semester will
be applicable for special semester.

only students who have appeared in the final-term examination of the final
semester ofthe degree program will be allowed to take special semester.
11. Good Standingi. ln order to remain on the rolls of the college, a student has to continuously
maintain "Good Standing" i.e. a satisfactory standard of attendance and
academic performance as well as of conduct and discipline.
ii. To maintain "Good Standing" a student besides meeting attendance and
conduct requirements, must also maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on a
cumulative basis in every semester.
iii. Any student with a CGPA of less than 2.00 will be dropped / detained from the
roll of the college forthwith.
iv, At the end of the first semester, a student must obtain a minimum grade point
average (GPA) of 2.00 to be promoted to the second semester. However, in
case a student is able to obtain GPA of 1.75 or more, but less than 2.00 he /she
will be promoted to the second semester on probation.
v. At the end of each semester, other than 15t semester, a student must obtain a
minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 and must also pass
at least 50% of the courses taken by him /her in the semester in order to be
promoted to next semester. lf any of the preceding two conditions are not
fulfilled by a student, he / she shall be removed from the rolls ofthe college.
a. However, if a student fails to comply with any of the above mentioned
conditions in 5th and subsequent semesters in four years program (BS)
and 3'd and subsequent semesters in two years programs (AD), he / she
will be detained in that semester and he / she will repeat the semester
as and when offered by the concerned college within the stipulated
time of the degree.
b. He / she will be promoted to the next semester on attaining a CGPA of
2.00
c. The students will have to complete their courses within the stipulated
time for completion of degree as discussed in Regulation 1 (Time Period
of the Degree).

At the end of the last semester of the program a student must obtain CGPA
not less than 2.20 otherwise he/she shall be removed from the rolls of the
college.
a. A student who has not been required to repeat any course(s), obtains
CGPA of 2.00 but less than 2.20 at the end of the last semester, will be
allowed to repeat one or two cou rses of the previous se mester(s) of his
/ her choice in order to improve the CGPA so as to obtain the minimum
of 2,20 failing which he/she shall be removed from the rolls of the
college.
b. The student will be given only one chance to improve CGPA to
minimum of 2.20 for the successful completion of the degree.
A student shall be deemed to have lost his/her "Good Standing", if his conduct
and behavior is found objectionable from the disciplinary point of view.
72. Makeup Examinationsi. Makeup examination for only final-term examination will be allowed as per
University policy.
ii. He / She fulfills the conditions of having attended the prescribed number of
lectures as laid down in the regulations.
iii. The makeup final-term examination is only allowed under following
circumstances:
a. lllness: He / She is laid down as an indoor patient of a recognized
Hospital, or if he / she is not hospitalized as defined above, the
candidate shall be examined by the Medical Superintendent of
government Hospital (not below the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital) who
may certify the inability of the student to appear in the examination in
written.
b. Death of blood relation.
c. Hajj
iv. Application of the student for makeup examination must reach the office of
the Controller of Examination of Bahauddin Zakariya University duly forwarded

by the concerned principal of the college within 07 days of that particular
exa m.
Such a student shall be given incomplete grade (l-Grade). He / She shall be
required to appear in the Special Final-term Examination of semester to be
held within four weeks from the commencement of the next semester.
The schedule of the special / make-up final examination will be given by the
Controller of examinations of Bah aud din Zakariya University.
He / she shall also be required to follow the schedule ofthe next semester.
The student shall have to pay makeup examination fee as per university policy
/ fee sch edule.

13. Extra Ordinary Grade / CGPA lmprovementi. The student will be allowed to improve the grade and CGPA only if his / her
CGPA at the end ofthe final semester falls between 2.95 and 2.99
a. Any such student who wishes to improve the grade or CGPA can repeat
2 courses of his / her choice provided the courses are being offered by
the college.
b. The student has to complete the repeat courses with in stipulated time
ofthe degree.
c. ln case the student is not able to improve the grade or CGPA the
original grade and CGPA will be maintained.
d. The student can take this offer only once and within the maximum time
allowed for the degree.
e. The students who wishes to take this opportunity has to apply to the
principal of the college who may approve the application and forward
this application to the Controller of examinations of Bahauddin
Zakariya University for intimation.
f. The course / examination fee will be charged as per university policy /ru les.
ii. lf a student finishes the degree program with the CGPA of 2.99, it will be

L4. Change / Withdrawal of CourseNo student shall change a course except with the written approval of the
concerned principal of the college.
The time period for such a change shall be 1.5 days from the commencement
of the course.
A student may withdraw only one course not later than one week after the
announcement of the Midterm result in 1't semester of any degree program,
ln case of withdrawal from the course, the GPA will be calculated excluding the
withdrawal course. Such withdrawal is only allowed in 1st semester of any
degree program.
The Principal of the college must intimate the Controller of Examinations of
Bahauddin Zakariya University within 15 days from the commencement of the
15. Semester Break / Semester Freezei. ln case a student (other than first semester student) due to some unavoidable
circumstances (prolonged illness or such other genuine reason) is unable to
continue his /her studies, he/she may apply for a semester break.
ii. The case will be put up to the College Examination Committee for
consideration. ln case, the Committee recommends it, semester break will be
allowed. The principal will then intimate the Controller of Examinations of
Bahauddin Zakariya Un iversity accordingly.
iii. The student has to apply for the semester break before the midterm
examinations.
iv. The Semester Break will be allowed for a maximum period of one year. The
totaltime period for completion of the program will however, remain the same
as already provided in rules.
16. Comprehensive ExaminationThere shall be a written comprehensive examination based on
major/compu lsory courses taught, on the successful completion of
required/all semesters, to be qualified by each candidate.

The comprehensive examination must be conducted within one month of the
declaration of result of final semester.
The failing candidates shall be given two more chances to qualify the
comprehensive examination within the maximum stipulated time of the
degree.
For candidates who are repeating any course(s) after the normal completion
of course work with in given number of semesters, comprehensive examination
shall be held after the candidate has obtained the requisite CGPA of 2.20 and
passed all the courses (within the prescribed additional period).
It will be the responsibility of the concerned principal of the college to get the
comprehensive examination conducted in proper and timely manner.
The comprehensive examination shall be conducted by the comprehensive
examination committee. The composition of the comprehensive examination
committee will be as follows:
o HOD of the concerned department ofthe college.
. Chairman / Director of the concerned department of the university or
his / her nominee as an external examiner.
The comprehensive examination will be set and evaluated by the external
examiner.
The student has to submit the comprehensive examination fee before the
comprehensive examination in the university examination account. The fee for
the comprehensive examination will be as followss:
a. First Chance = Rs. 1500/-
b. Second chance = Rs. 3500/-
c. Third Chance = Rs. 5000/-

maximum of eight weeks after the final examination unless otherwise

Upon the request of the candidate, duly recommended by the supervisor and
Chairman/HoD of the department of the college, the time period for
submission of thesis can be further extended by the principal up to a maximum
of two months. However, any such extension must be communicated to the
controller of examinations within one week.
a. ln case, the student requires more than 2 months of extension, a
request must be made to the Vice Chancellor of the university who on
the recommendation of the principal concerned can extend the time
period of the submission of thesis for further two months.
b. The student must complete the thesis with in the stipulated time
period ofthe degree as prescribed earlier (Regulation # L, Time Period
of the degree).
The principal of the college is responsible to allocate supervisor to the student
for his / her research thesis with the consultation of the HOD of the concerned
department of the college.
The name(s) of the student(s) along with the name(s) of the supervisor(s) and
title(s) of the thesis / research project must be communicated to the office of
the Controller of Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University before the
final term examination of last semester.
The evaluation procedure for the thesis / research report will be as follows:
a. A copy of the thesis will be sent to the External Examiner for his/her
perusal before presentation and viva-voce examination.
b. The thesls will be evaluated by the external examiner who will be
appointed by the chairman of the concerned department of the
university. However, the supervisor will serve as the internal examiner.
c. lf a thesis require minor improvements or re-writing the
improvements/re-writing will be ensured by the Supervisor. However,
grading would be made prior to these improvements. lf some major
deficiencies are observed or re-work is required, the candidate will
have to complete the desired output within one semester time frame
but not exceeding the maximum stipulated time of the degree.
d. The grade awarded by the external examiner will be final.

The thesis submission fee must be paid by the student to the university as per
u n iversity policy and rules,
18. lnternship and Practical Learning LabsEvery student has to do internship of at least 9 weeks in an organization of
repute for successful completion of degree (BS and AD).
It will be the duty of concerned principal of the affiliated college to ensure the
internship placement of the students.
On completion of internship, the student has to write the internship report.
The viva of internship will be conducted by the external examiner appointed
by the Chairman / Director of the respective department / school/ institute /College of Bahauddin Zakariya University.
There will be no letter grade or GPA given for internship. However the student
has to pass the internship viva for successful completion of the degree.
The requirement and procedure of Practical Learning Lab (PLL) will be as per
the HEC Undergraduate Policy.
iv.
19. Maintenance of Examination Recordl. lt will be the duty of the Principal and the in-charge examination of the
affiliated college to properly maintain the record of the examinations.
ii. The marked answer books of midterm examinations will be kept in safe
custody by the concerned college for the minimum period of two years beyond
the degree completion time.
iii. ln case of loss of record of answer books / answer sheets the following options
will be given to the students: -
a) He / She will re-appear in the Examination in the said course.
b) He/Shewill be given average m arks on the basis of other courses.
iv. Re-counting of any paper will be made within 15 days of declaration of results
as per University rules on the request of the student after paying / depositing
the prescribed fee. However, re-checking / re-evaluation of answer books will
not be allowed in any case.

20. Result / Transcript / Degreei. As soon as possible after the termination of final term examination, the
Controller of Examination of Bahauddin Zakariya University shall publish a list
of successful candidates, showing the grades obtained by them.
ii. The transcript / detailed marks certificate / result card will be issued by the
Controller of Examination of Bahauddin Zakariya University. The transcript /result card will bear the name of the candidate along with father's name,
registration number, GPA of individual courses and semester, CGPA, name of
the institution and any other relevant information.
iii, Each successful candidate shall be granted, by Bahauddin Zakariya University,
the Degree stating the grade in which he/she has passed.
21. Unfair Means Casesi. The teacher in-charge will report unfair means cases (giving or receiving
assistance, copying from any paper, book or note, or allowing any other
candidate to copy his answer book, or using, or attempting to use these or any
other unfair means) in quizzes and mid semester examinations to the Principal
who will forward these cases to College Examination Committee within one
week for necessary action as under:
a. The examination committee will issue the charge sheet to the student
clearly elaborating the charges against the student.
b. The committee will ask the student to personally appear before the
committee and the statement of the student must be recorded in
written duly signed by the said student.
c. ln case the student does not appear before the committee, he / she will
be given one more chance for personal hearing. Even then if the
student does not appear for personal hearing, the committee may
decide the case ex-parte.
d. ln case the student is found guilty of using unfair means the committee
depending upon the severity ofthe charge may:
i. Expel the student from the college for maximum of one year.
During the time of punishment, the said student will not be

allowed to take any course and appear in the examination. The
time of punishment will also be counted towards the maximum
prescribed time for the completion of the degree.
ii. Cancel the examination and ask the student to repeat that
pa rticu lar case.
The student may appeal against the decision of the college examination
committee to the Controller of Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University
who will place the appeal before the committee constituted for the decision
of UMC cases in the university.
UMCs in the final term examinations will be handled by the office of the
Controller of Examinations of Bahauddin Zakariya University as per university

22. Course FileMaintenance of course file is compulsory for the teacher. lt will have a complete
record of everything that happened during the semester. The course file shall contain:
o Course code
. Title of Course
. Contents of course
. Credit hour.
o Weekly teach ing schedule
o Dates of mid-semester examination
. Copy of each homework assi8nments
. Copy of each quiz given
. Copy of Mid Semester examination
. Copy of midterm and sessional results duly signed by the teacher.
. Difficu lties/p roblems faced during classroom/course delivery.
The course file of each subject will be submitted to the office of the Principal / HOD
one week before the end of semester (i.e., 16th week ofthe semester). The Principal's
office is required to maintain this record for one year after the end of a semester. The
relevant BZU bodies may inspect these files if/when needed.
23. Teacher Evaluationi. The evaluation of teacher is mandatory. The Principal of the College will have
every course Tutor evaluated by the students on what they have taught by
him/her. The evaluation will be done in the last week, of the semester without
the presence of the teacher so as to maintain impartiality. The evaluation will
be shared with the concerned teacher for his/her im p rovem ent/knowledge.
ii. Evaluation done by the students will completely be anonymous, i.e., the
students will not be, required to indicate their names, roll numbers,
registration numbers and/or any other student identities whatsoever.
iii. The principal of the college will submit the report on the evaluation of the
teachers to the Quality Enhancement Cell of Bahauddin Takariya University as
per format prescribed by the Quality Enhancement Cell of Bahauddin Zakariya
University within one month of the start of the final term examination
