USING POWERPOINT IN THE CLASSROOM

Some interesting ways of using PowerPoint:

1. Recycled PresentationWe can modify your classroom lessons and use them over and over again

Presentation for Parents

• Inform parents and remind students of classroom expectation, policies, and other important information

• Develop a students slide show that includes digital pictures and necessary notes

• Design slideshows to exhibit student work

Presentation for Instruction

• Main points can be emphasized and presentation can be enhanced byn using graphics, animation, or sound

• Add flair to presentations with slide and bullet transitions and animated effects

• Presentation can be used to make lessons more organized and flexible

• Text on PowerPoint is much easier to read than on board/chalk

• Student interest can be stimulated through the use of graphics and cartoons

• Variety is the key to keeping students’ attention

• Many tools are available for use with PowerPoint, so experiment to see what works best

Creative Presentation Ideas• Flash cardCreate Flashcard presentation for individual and group reinforcement. You can create a template and choose whether you or your students will insert the words or phrases.

Topics may include: reinforcing math concepts; practicing parts of speech; practicing spelling; etc.

• Field Trip Slide Shows to review and apply knowledge

learned on a field trip.

• Autobiographical Stories

Students can create short autobiographical stories about themselves with scanned photos

• Interactive Book ReportsHave students create PowerPoint presentation about books they read

• Music Class RecitalsGood for music teachers by creating slide shows of student recital

• Group Slide ShowsGive your students a topic. Have them do a research. Then, tell them to develop slide shows for presentation

• Poetry ReadingStudents can create slides exhibiting their personal poetry along with a voice recording

• Science PresentationUse PowerPoint to teach processes and how things work

• Students PortfoliosPowerPoint can be used to create portfolios of student work
