Bag Making 1: Clutch Bag Shoe Making: Creating Footwear By Hand DescriptionThis course is ideal for people who are interested in the craft of designing and making footwear by hand. Over this 42 hour foundational footwear course you will make a pair of low heeled ballet flats or unisex Derby simple lace ups.. The course is conducted in a fabulously equipped specialised leather working studio at RMIT’s Brunswick campus where traditional technique combines with state-of-the-art resources and expert tuition.

Content• Pattern making and Cutting leather by hand• Leather skiving, Leather folding (beading), Leather sewing• Hand lasting• Finishing

OutcomeStudents will learn how to make a pair of low heeled court shoes (ballet flats) OR a pair of Derby shoes (simple unisex lace-ups) from pattern cutting through to completion.

Materials SuppliedAll materials, including black or brown leather, for the course are supplied. Tools will be available for use within the department.

DeliveryThis course is delivered as a 3 hour evening course over 14 weeks.

Cost The course fee is $1,145

Shoe Making: Intensive - DerbySimilar course content as above but run over 5 x saturdays = 30 hours tuition in total, with option of making a unisex Derby simple lace up only (ie. no ballet flat option). Cost is $885. See website for more details.

DescriptionThis course will teach you to design and create a clutch bag in leather, as well as the introductory knowledge associated with bag making. Learn under the expert guidance of our tutor in our fully equipped leather working studio.

Content• Designing and pattern making• Cutting leather/material by hand• Leather skiving, Leather folding (beading),

Leather and material sewing• Attaching standard fittings (buckles, press studs,

magnetic locks, etc.)

OutcomeStudents will learn the art of bag making from introductory level, and finish a clutch bag.

Materials SuppliedAll leather and course materials are supplied. Tools will be available for use within the department.

DeliveryThis course is delivered as a 3 hour evening course over 6 weeks or as an intensive course over 3 saturdays.
