Background... Hassidic Judaism Walking Tour Sharing the Jewish culture and way of life with an open, warm, welcoming and pleasant environment.” Postville, IA is an old historic town in Allama- kee County that is rich with culture and sur- rounded by magnificent scenery. This diverse community, nicknamed “hometown to the world,” is also where people of all walks of life call home. As members of the Chabad- Lubavitch sect of Hasidic Judaism chose an empty processing plant outside of Postville as a new location for an orthodox kosher slaughter- house in 1987, the town has welcomed hun- dreds of ethnic Jews to this small Midwestern community. Today, thousands of visitors ar- rive in Postville annually to understand the true character of this unique town and the traditions that drive its residents. The Hassidic Judiasm Walking Tour is presented by The Judaic Resource Center & The Shtetl Museum of Northeast Iowa. *Brochure layout & design completed by Northeast Iowa RC&D To schedule a guided walking tour, please contact Rabbi Aron Schimmel at [email protected], Gavriel Levin at [email protected] or call: 563-380-7771 The Bais Sholom 228 West Greene Street Postville, IA 52162 Postville, IA Tour Departure Point Schedule a Tour Acknowledgements W M u r d o c k S t C o o p D r S t o n e m a n S t W G r e e n e S t W G r e e n e S t W P o s t S t W T i d e n S t W T i d e n S t 1 0 0 t h S t H a r d i n D r H i l l S t W i l s o n S t W W i l l i a m s S t W W i l l i a m s S t N B l o o d y S t N B l o o d y S t N O g d e n S t M a p l e S t N R e y n o l d s S t N L a w l e r S t S L a w l e r S t N R e y n o l d s S t N B a n c r o f t S t N O g d e n S t A s p e n A v e S u m m e r S t N M a p l e S t N W e s t S t J F S m i t h D r C h e r y l S t O a k D r L y b r a n d S t E M i l i t a r y R d b 18 b 18 b 52 b 51 b 52
