The Practice Leadership stream of the Bachelor of Nursing is designed to extend the Bachelor of Nursing course outcomes for students with outstanding academic ability and leadership potential through additional learning opportunities including mentoring in scholarship and practice leadership. In addition, graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing (Practice Leadership) stream will be able to: • demonstrate enhanced leadership skills in nursing practice; • promote evidence based practice in changing health care contexts; • actively contribute to practice development and innovation. Students will be provided with mentors to support their development of leadership. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Students are required to maintain a GPA of 5.5 to stay in the course; students who fail to maintain a minimum GPA of 5.5 and to demonstrate participation in suitable leadership activities through annual submission of a portfolio, will be transferred to the Bachelor of Nursing degree. Bachelor of Nursing students who attain a GPA of 5.5 in Year 1 of the Bachelor of Nursing degree can apply for entry into the Bachelor of Nursing Practice Leadership course. COURSE STRUCTURE: The Bachelor of Nursing (Practice Leadership) stream has the same structure as the Bachelor of Nursing, with eight units in the Nursing Theory and Clinical Practice strands extended with additional learning outcomes and associated required learning activities. These units are in the second and third years of the course.
