INTRODUCTION

Located in Melaka + declared as a World UNESCO Heritage Site

combination of three terrace lots that were acquired by the Chan

family in year 1861.

There are four generations lived in the house in March 1985.

Peranakan Baba Nyonya = Chinese traders intermarried with local

women (Indonesia, Malays, and Siamese) and adopted South East

Asian social practices and the local language.

Managed by the family generations

Revive Malaysia’s Peranakan identity and heritage to the public by

preserving the house for visitors and preserve the house becoming

a museum by forth son of Chan Seng Kee

1. According to the linear chat for 2 years, we can see on year 2012 the total touristarrivals were 56,862.

2. Year 2013, the total number of visitors is higher than year 2012 which is 70,705visitors.

3. Difference total number between these two years is 13,843 visitors

4. Most of the international tourists = Singapore, Japan, Thailand and other Asiancountry

2. The UNESCO list site and museum start to maintaining, sustaining, preserving, and conserving the heritage and historical value with the supported fund from this worldwide association.

1. Site Development Standard

BUILDING HEIGHTS –• Double story building height nearby the coastal area of the Malacca River. The first

floor consists of reception hall, ancestral hall, dark hall, kitchen, and toilet.

• The second floor consist the bedrooms.

BUILDING SETBACKS-• Setback area 300 metres from the Malacca riverbank to protect the building from

erosion damages and allows adequate space for public access

OFFSTREET PARKING-• Site coverage is limited and cannot develop bigger.

• One way road .

• Road area is small

2. Design Consideration ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN• House No. 48 & 50 = Main homestead and No. 52 = Servant quarters

• Design horizontally backward.

• Dutch regulation = pay tax for every single window.

• Building house horizontally to backward not sides to sides to pay less tax

• Interior decor clues to = Dutch, Portuguese, Malay, And Colonial

• Inlaid with mother of pearl and marble, solid cenggal wood, woven gold-leafcarvings staircase

LOCAL STYLE, MOTIF, AND MATERIAL• China influence = by floral and animal tales of China people (wood carving)

• Malay influence = kitchen equipment’s

• British influence= mosaic floor and small open space area

3. Engineering Design WATER SUPPLY AND DRAINAGE• Olden days use well to keep rain drop as their water supply

• Provide water bidet to get the tap water (modern technology)

• Provide proper drainage for waste water.

• Rain drop flow systematically to the disposal area

1.Infrastructure improvements : provided an accessible road system to the Baba and Nyonya Museum

many vehicles use the small roadin front of the Baba and NyonyaMuseum building

ANALYSIS

Baba Nyonya have potential to increase in income and living standards of the local people by creating new job opportunities (Economic)

increase the government revenue (Economic)

Local community will experience cross cultural exchange(Social)

X But too many tourist cause overcrowding and fewer amenities for the resident(Social)

increasing environment awareness among the visitors (Environment)

concentrating on conservation of the Historic Site (Environment)

X Facing pollution, congestion problem and many competitions on accommodations (Environment)

= Conclude that there are more positive impacts on Baba and Nyonya Museum

Guided well and always be observed by the responsible authority and the government also must actively conserve the heritage sites in Malacca.

SYNTHESIS

Existence of this museum has contributed in positive aspects

Preservation the special design of museum furniture

Instead of making a profit, the developers must not ignoring the negative impact while build infrastructure or facilities around Museum.

= We believe from the overall analysis that tourism program must

proceed on this places because of many the positive impact and controlled negative impact surrounding the places.

Specific road to the pedestrian, motorcycle and bicycle only toreduce the impact of the noise

Provide a parking lot that have a strategic distance between themuseum and the parking to make sure that the polluted air from thevehicles can be reduce at the museum area.

Charge a compatible price for the rent or the purchasing of theland of the building

Strict the enforcement for not parking in front of the museum andother attraction that make the road become narrow and difficult tobe used by other people.

Adding up more facilities such as chair or bench to tourist take arest.

Limit the number of group bring by one guide to increase the enjoyment of thetour.Put a list of rules and regulations such as take care about the manners in the mainhall & remind the tourists about their safety and their belongings before they starttheir tour.Make a compulsory for the staffs to wearing a baba & nyonya clothes such as bajukebaya for all the staff & invite the generations of the baba & nyonya descendant toguide a tour on the museum.

ECONOMY IMPACT

Provide equipment like headphone that contain the information the voice about thebaba & nyonya museum in various languages to be rent by the tourists.Minimize the import item use in the building & use the local item and the expertthat they know in the country to cut the cost of the maintenance and infrastructure.

→ Comprising Baba and Nyonya dances, songs and

• It is important to preserve our cultural heritage to show

our own national identity.

• To continuously well protected, preserved and conserved

for the next future generations.

• Malaysian people will be more interested and

appreciated about this special and unique culture of

Baba and Nyonya.
