Ho, Ho, Ho, Santa Dear Santa Stone Fox Stone Fox is a coming of age story where its main character, Little Willy, has to grow up much too fast. It is a great book about a deter- mined boy and his grandfather having to deal with everyday conflicts while living in Alaska. Willy's grandfather won't move, talk, or do anything because of the taxes he owes. The worst part is that it is the middle of harvest season and they are running low on money. So, Lit- tle Willy has to become the man of the house and look for a way to find money. When he finds out there's a dog sled race, he decides to enter with his dog, Searchlight in hopes of winning the prize money. After discov- ering the number one dog sled- der, Stone Fox, is also racing in this race, he and Searchlight begin training. Will he, as a ten year old boy, be able to defeat the giant of dog sled races? Will he be able to care for his grand- father financially and physi- cally? That's for you to find out in this sad, yet fun book. Book Review: BY JACOB CAMPBELL The Jaguar Journal Snowman Cake Ingredients: 1. White cake mix 2. White buttercream frosting 3. Chocolate frosting 4. Green food coloring (optional) 5. Red and green sprinkles 6. Three eggs 7. 1/3 cup of vegetable oil 8. 1 1/2 cups water Utensils: 1. Spatula 2. Two round cake pans 3. Electric mixer 4. #16 icing tip & an icing bag Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Follow instructions on cake mix box. Mix ingredients to- gether with an electric mixer. Coat both pans with nonstick cooking spray. Pour cake mix into both pans. If you want to have a swirl in your cake, then put two drops of green food coloring into your batter. Then get a knife or toothpick and put the tip of it in the cake mix and go back and forth and side to side. Bake cake for about fifteen minutes. When time is up, stick toothpick in and if it has batter on it put back in and check it every five minutes until the toothpick has no wet batter on it. To ice the cake, get a number six- teen icing tip and bag. Put your white icing in the bag, and then put the tip on and squeeze. You can either dot it or you can swirl the icing over the cake. Then get a new bag and get a different tip. After that put your chocolate icing in the bag and draw your eyes, nose, mouth, scarf and dots down the middle. You can add sprinkles inside the eyes and dots down the middle or on the scarf or both. PUZZLE GINGER WORTHINGTON, FACULTY ADVISOR FOR THE JAGUAR JOURNAL Mr. Kevin Tripp, Teacher of the Month, is always trying to be the best he can be. Mr. Tripp is Bell Academy’s new P. E. teacher. He’s a teacher you can count and depend on. He’s a teacher who wants the best for all of his students. He’s a teacher who is serious about his students being active and healthy. So, without him we wouldn’t be as healthy as we are now. We asked him how it feels to be Teacher of the Month. “I think that I have done a great job around the school to be the best I can be,” he replied. When asked about his vision for the fu- ture of our school, Mr. Tripp replied, “Why not make a gym?” Kevin Tripp treats his students great, engaging them in fun ac- tivities that teach them about their bodies and the importance of exercise. He’s the teacher who puts work in, to get some- thing out. He challenges his stu- dents by pushing them to participate in all activities. He treats his students with respect and the dignity they deserve. He’s not a guy who steps on everyone he sees, he’s Kevin Tripp: Teacher of the Month. BY GARY FORREST AND JAMARCUS RICHARDSON The Jaguar Journal Teacher of the Month Kids Corner Kids Corner is a weekly sec- tion in The Cleveland Current that highlights students who live in the local area, and are in- terested in making an appear- ance in the newspaper. Our teacher, Mrs. Worthington, gave us a permission slip for our par- ents to sign and a survey for each of us to complete. She took pictures of us and sent the surveys to the Kid’s Corner. Van- niesha Foster, one of our class- mates, made a recent appearance. She was happy and excited when she saw her smil- ing face in the November 11 Sunday edition of the newspa- per. “My family was very happy to see me in the newspaper, es- pecially my grandmother,” replied Vanniesha. “I was begin- ning to doubt being chosen for the Kids Corner, but I think I set a good example by not giving up.” If you’re interested in ap- pearing in the Kid’s Corner, con- tact Kelli Cotton at [email protected] to get your survey. BY ELISHA JONES & JAMYA MOORE The Jaguar Journal Art with Mrs. Koehler Bell Academy has started an eight day art program with Mrs. Katherine Koehler. Even though she is teaching art, we are learning history. The sixth grade will be going on a trip to St. Louis this year and Mrs. Koehler is preparing us with a little knowledge about the Lewis and Clark expedition and the westward expansion. Mrs. Koehler has previously lived in Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and South Carolina. During her child- hood she enjoyed figure skating and never thought she would be- come an art teacher, however she loved art. In fact, she started draw- ing when she could hold a crayon. When she got older she then be- came more interested in art and teaching. Some of her art work had been featured in The Little Rock Art Museum and Jacob K. Javits Museum in New York. Mrs. Koehler’s art and history lessons have been very educational and fun! BY KANARIAN LUSTER The Jaguar Journal “He’s not answering” Gary said fearfully. “Hey, we have to go help him,” Centen said bravely. “Who’s going to help us? We’re the only Jedi left,” Ashton said. “Yeah, Ashton is right. Where are we going to find an army?” Gray said questioning the others. “Let’s search for enemies of the empire,” Centen said. “To the QUANTUM EAGLE!” exclaimed the three Jedi. Their journey began right there in the Jedi temple..... As Jacob landed on the landing plat- form to go get an upgrade on his saber he heard his masters voice say, “You have betrayed the Sith em- pire!!!” Suddenly the bottom of the ship hit the ground and Jacob got off. “Excuse me, fellas, I will need to speak to Malgus,” Jacob said to the clones at the door. “Sorry sir, I have orders from Malgus to destroy you,” the clone leader said, choos- ing his words carefully. Jacob started to jump in the air and force the clones into the ground. “Let me in Malgus, you traitor!” Jacob yelled angrily. “Come in,” Malgus said sar- castically. Pish! Malgus’s lightsaber went off. “I told you I am a man of my word and it was a lie, it is a pity that you can’t kill me, not even if we...” Malgus stopped talking as the force lightning went right through his body and he fell to the ground. As Malgus died his power was re- leased upon Jacob. He walked out and flew away with them...... “We’re landing on Naboo now, Ashton,” Centen said. “Oh my, Tuskin Raiders have taken over this part of Naboo,” Ashton says. “Hey I see a girl.” Gray says in shock. “She’s been a slave for the Tuskin Raiders” Gary says. “She’s got like a drop of blood left in her body, I predict,” Ashton says. “That is an exaggera- tion. She has 78% of the blood in her body, and is that a drop?” Centen says. “How’d you know that?” Ash- ton said. “I am very advanced and powerful in the force all you have to do is think, which you rarely do,” Centen says. They got off the ship and found a stick to poke her with. Poke! She woke up like she was ready to fight. “Shhh! We are here to help,” Ashton says. Then they cut the rope that was hanging her over the ground. “Thanks but I could have gotten out by myself,” the girl said. “Then why haven’t you got out already?” Centen says. “I have my whole family here and they wanted to defeat the empire the same as you,” the girl said. “Really, what the heck are you really here for?” said the girl. “Her name is Ivy, one of the royal family of Izok,” Gray says. “How do you know,” Ivy said. “I read your mind,” Gray says with su- periority. “We are really here to find an army,” Centen said. “Well I know where you can find one but it’s going to be challenging,” Ivy said. “Where are they?” Centen said in excitement. “Captured, in there where I was almost beaten to death,” Ivy said. “How the heck are we going to get in there?” Ashton asked. “I’ve got a plan,” Centen said.......TO BE CONTINUED Star Wars 7 BY ASHTON SHERWOOD The Jaguar Journal Angel Children Bell Academy’s third grade adopted angel children. Angel children are little paper an- gels that go on Christmas trees, and you can get them at Wal-Mart. They have real infor- mation for different children in our commu- nity, such as their age, gender, name, etc. These children are very unfortunate and usually receive nothing for Christmas. “Adopting” them is a great gesture, and you must attempt to give them a good Christmas present because they are less fortunate than us. Third grade is happy about adopting two such angel children. They decided to get into the true Christmas spirit by giving instead of getting. They are passionate about giving their money away for the less fortunate angel children. The third grade enjoys this project, and they like they have done a very good thing. BY BAILEY USERY The Jaguar Journal Box Top Winner America’s schools have earned over $475 million through the Box Tops for Education program to help meet their needs. In our school, these box tops help provide class- room needs such as books, shelves, desk, boards, and other things. Every class at Bell Academy collected Box Tops for months.On November 26, Mrs. Johnson’s first grade class was announced the box top winner. She said, “On some days her class brought in over 100 box tops and other days none.” Mattie and Carolyn Cole Rocconi brought the most box tops to help their class win. Mrs. Johnson and her class were very excited about being the winner. When they found out about winning, they were very thrilled. Mrs. Johnson said, “First graders get excited about everything.” If you would like to join Box Tops for Education, visit www.boxtops4education.com. BY VANNIESHA FOSTER & BRIUNNA TERRELL The Jaguar Journal Hand Bells with Mrs. Guest Bell Academy third graders are lucky to have Mrs. Guest volunteering from the Delta Arts Alliance to help them with the Hand Bells. Mrs. Guest picked the third grade, be- cause she likes working with them. She did- n’t work with other grades due to her strict schedule and limited time. The kids in the third grade thoroughly enjoyed participating. Parents, family, and friends of the third graders were invited to the Christmas pro- gram to see them perform. They played two Christmas songs using Hand Bells. In order for them to be in the program they had to learn how to play the Hand Bells. The pro- gram was at Cleveland High School, on De- cember 10, 2012 at 6:00pm. BY SHAMIAH MCGEE The Jaguar Journal Reading Fair Children all over the world are participating in reading fairs, and here at Bell Acad- emy we are among those par- ticipants. A reading fair is a competition to show what you know about a book you’ve read. Each participant dis- cusses in writing the story ele- ments of their book on an artsy tri-fold board. The ele- ments consist of the title, au- thor, publisher, publication date, summary, setting, pur- pose, and mood. The partici- pants are allowed to portray a character from their book by dressing according to how the character might dress. There are three categories in which you can compete: In- dividual, Group, & Family. Arin Kelly, a sixth grader, won first place in the individual category, while Allie Mon- temayer & Lily Yawn, both 4th graders, won first place in the group category. Fourth grader, Madelyn Bryant and brother Landon won the family cate- gory. Arin won 1st place with the book, The Messenger, by Lois Lowry. Allie and Lily won with the book, Marley and Me, and the Bryant’s won with the book, The Polar Express. These students will now go to the district reading fair. Bell Academy’s librarian, Mrs. Amanda Holder, thought the school reading fair was a huge success and everyone had fun. BY LISA PATTERSON The Jaguar Journal

Stone Fox is a coming of agestory where its main character,Little Willy, has to grow upmuch too fast. Then get a new bag and get adifferent tip. After that put yourchocolate icing in the bag and drawyour eyes, nose, mouth, scarf anddots down the middle. You can addsprinkles inside the eyes and dotsdown the middle or on the scarf orboth.

Angel Children

Bell Academy’s third grade adopted angelchildren. Angel children are little paper an-gels that go on Christmas trees, and you canget them at Wal-Mart. They have real infor-mation for different children in our commu-nity, such as their age, gender, name, etc.These children are very unfortunate andusually receive nothing for Christmas.“Adopting” them is a great gesture, and youmust attempt to give them a good Christmaspresent because they are less fortunate thanus.

Third grade is happy about adopting twosuch angel children. They decided to get intothe true Christmas spirit by giving instead ofgetting. They are passionate about givingtheir money away for the less fortunateangel children. The third grade enjoys thisproject, and they like they have done a verygood thing.

Hand Bells with Mrs. Guest

Bell Academy third graders are lucky tohave Mrs. Guest volunteering from the DeltaArts Alliance to help them with the HandBells. Mrs. Guest picked the third grade, be-cause she likes working with them. She did-n’t work with other grades due to her strictschedule and limited time. The kids in thethird grade thoroughly enjoyed participating.Parents, family, and friends of the thirdgraders were invited to the Christmas pro-gram to see them perform. They played twoChristmas songs using Hand Bells. In orderfor them to be in the program they had tolearn how to play the Hand Bells. The pro-gram was at Cleveland High School, on De-cember 10, 2012 at 6:00pm.

Reading FairChildren all over the world

are participating in readingfairs, and here at Bell Acad-emy we are among those par-ticipants. A reading fair is acompetition to show what youknow about a book you’veread. Each participant dis-cusses in writing the story ele-

ments of their book on anartsy tri-fold board. The ele-ments consist of the title, au-thor, publisher, publicationdate, summary, setting, pur-pose, and mood. The partici-pants are allowed to portray acharacter from their book bydressing according to how thecharacter might dress.

There are three categories

in which you can compete: In-dividual, Group, & Family.Arin Kelly, a sixth grader, wonfirst place in the individualcategory, while Allie Mon-temayer & Lily Yawn, both 4thgraders, won first place in thegroup category. Fourth grader,Madelyn Bryant and brotherLandon won the family cate-gory. Arin won 1st place with

the book, The Messenger, byLois Lowry. Allie and Lily wonwith the book, Marley and Me,and the Bryant’s won with thebook, The Polar Express.These students will now go tothe district reading fair. BellAcademy’s librarian, Mrs.Amanda Holder, thought theschool reading fair was a hugesuccess and everyone had fun.
