Lesson Eight

After finishing reading L8, we all know that the yellow ribbon is a way to show support for the person who has been away for a long time under a particularly different circumstances such as war or prison.

In fact, besides the yellow ribbon, there are still many colors of awareness ribbons in use today, and they are used as a way for the wearer to make a statement of support for a cause(理想 ) or issue(爭議 ).

let’s first make sure that we understand what each color

represents.

The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on

its color.

Before we match the ribbons with their associated meanings,

The color pink is now associated with womanhood.

Red is the color of blood, the passion, romance and sex.

Green is the color symbolizing earth,

nature, and in a broader sense, life.

In the western world, black is a symbol of mourning( 哀痛 ).

In English heraldry, orange denotes strength, honour, generosity, and prosperity.

The rainbow flag has the different colors symbolizing diversity( 多樣性 ) in the gay c

ommunity( 群落 ).

In India, white stands for peace and purity. In English heraldry( 紋章學 ), white signified brightness , purity , virtue and innocence.

Brown is the color of many soils, animals, tree barks, and many other things in nature.
