appliance° Do not use an extension cord_
I " GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS. .......... 1
OBSERVE ALL LOCAL GOVERNING CODES
AND ORDINANCES
Do not, under any circumstances, remove the
power supply cord ground prong.
For your personal safety, this appliance must be
grounded_ This appliance has a power supply cord
with a 3-prong grounding plug_ To avoid possibleshock hazard, the cord must be plugged into a
mating 3-prong grounding type wall receptacle,
grounded in accordance with the National Electri-cal Code and local codes and ordinances. If a mat-
ing wall outlet is not available, it is your
responsibility and obligation to have a properly
grounded 3-prong wall receptacle installed by a
qualified electrician_
1,_Don't alter or change the plug on the power
supply cord of your dehumidifier. Changes wouldmake it unsafe, could cause serious damage to the
dehumidifier, and might void the warranty,

OPERATION
! INSTALLATION.
! WARNING: Do not use Dehumidifier near
flammables, such as gasoline.
Your Kenmore dehumidifier can be placed
almost anywhere, depending on the water disposalmethod°o Place the dehumidifier at least six inches from
the wall; don't place it in a corner or near a large
piece of furniture_• Shut all doors and windows in the area to be
dehumidified.o Before installation allow the unit to warm to
room temperature before operating
• For the first few days, on models with a humidi-stat, turn the humidistat to "constant" to remove
extra moisture from the furnishings as well as from
the room air. When the area has dried, change thehumidistat to a lower number,
Your dehumidifier may be placed on a table or
shelf that is strong enough to support it with a full
bucket of water (see below)_ A shelf or table may
be a better position to handle the water bucket
or to adjust controls Do not sit or stand on this
product,
)
IAlso the height of a table or shelf may help pre_
vent icing of the coils due to colder air near the
floor (such as can be found in a basement)_
Don't block either end or right side of the dehu-midifier_ The dehumidifier takes air from the back
and blows it out from the front and side. So wher*
ever you place it, be sure there's enough room for
good air movement and water bucket removal°
Your dehumidifier can be operated in an out-of-
the_way area such as a utility room and still effec-
tively dry out adjoining areas (see below). However,
it is helpful to leave doors open between theseareas so the moisture in the air can move from
room to room.
A TYPICAL BASEMENT
!
CAUTION: Dehumidifier will not work
properly at temperatures below 65°F (55°F
for models with de-icer control).
4
The coil of any dehumidifier can become blocked
with ice in room temperatures below 65 degrees. Ice
buildup on the coil stops the air flow from the dehu-
midifier and it stops dehumidifying even though itkeeps running°
Generally your furnace heat also warms the base-
ment evenly to keep the temperature above 65 ° ,
The problem usually starts when on warm Spring or
Autumn days the basement doesn't receive warmed
air and may be at temperatures below 65 ° , espe-
cially at floor level° If icing should occur, unplug
unit (or turn it off) until ice melts and room temper-
ature is above 65 °, Models with de-icer control (see
page 5) perform this action for you, Lifting the
dehumidifier off of the floor may help because that
places it in warmer air
J FEATURES AND HOW TO USE THEM
CONTROL PANEL
I FAN CONTROL,.
This controls fan operation of the dehumidifier.
When the humidistat calls for dryer air, the com-
pressor and fan motor will run until the humidistat
setting is satisfied_ Use HI for faster air drying and
LO for quieter operation°
AUTOMATIC SHUTOFE
The automatic shutoff switch turns off the dehu-
midifier when the water bucket is filled to its preset
level To restart dehumidifier, simply remove water
bucket, empty and rehang it on the back of the unit°
HUMIDISTAT.
To adjust the humidistat control turn the knob to
the setting you prefer_
Constant.
If you choose this setting, dehumidifier wilt run all
the time no matter what the humidity might be.
! thru 6 plus Constant.
This is the range of relative humidity on the humidi-
star control knob_ "Youmay adjust the humidistat
setting higher or lower to suit your needs° Higher
numbers make air dryer; lower numbers leave more
moisture in the air_ When the relative humidity is
reduced to the level you have chosen, the dehumidi-
tier will turn itself off° It will turn itself on again
when the humidity risesOff.
This setting turns the dehumidifier off when the
dehumidifier is not needed
NOTE: If you turn your dehumidifier off and turn
it right on again, the compressor may try to start
then stop. This is normal. In about two minutes, the
compressor will start again and continue to run_
SIGNAL LIGHT.
The signal light warns when water bucket is full
for emptying and the dehumidifier has stopped Be
sure to replace bucket properly so unit will run°
DE-ICER CONTROL,
Your Kenmore dehumidifier is equipped with a
feature to help you get the most comfort from your
new appliance by permitting it to operate down to55OE
If your dehumidifier runs when room temperature
and humidity conditions are low, frost can form on
its evaporator coil. This interferes with proper
operation.
The DE-ICER control senses frost build-up on the
evaporator coil and automatically shuts off the com-
pressor. The fan continues to run, drawing air across
the coil and melting the frost. When the coil isdefrosted, the DE-ICER control restarts the com-
pressor automatically and dehumidifying isresumed.
Before installation, allow the unit to warm to
room temperature before operating It may not start
if temperature is below 55°E
5
WATER COLLECTION BUCKET
Your dehumidifier was supplied with a sturdy
bucket which hangs conveniently on the back ofthe unit to accumulate water removed from the air,.
The Shut Off Switch (A) is activated by a float
and:
1_ Stops the unit before the bucket fills to
overflowing.2_ Turns the unit on again after the bucket is emp-
tied and replaced.
tf you want the water to flow directly to a drain,
connect any standard garden hose to the bucket
connection (B) or place the dehumidifier over thedrain._
Note: a standard garden hose has a ¾" diameter
connection with 11 _ threads per inch. Be sure thehose lies flat, not kinked. A drain hose may be
bought from Sears, Part No° 9181_
When using either of these direct draining meth-
ods, break through the plastic membrane in the
bucket connection (B),. Peel away any remainder so
the opening will be clear and permit water to flow
freely_
To reseal the hose connection on the bucket, use
any standard hose end cap.,

CARE AND UPKEEP
............................. i i
WARNING: SHOCK OR INJURY HAZARD
before servicing be sure to unplug power cordfrom outlet. Handle the Dehumidifier with care.
Watch out for the sharp metal surface and fins on
the inner coil.
CLEANING THE COILS INSIDE THE
DEHUMIDIFIER.
The refrigerant coils are al! that need cleaning
on the inside of your dehumidifier_ For the best effi-
ciency, clean the coils well at least once a year
(more often if needed) with a brush or vacuumcleaner° Also, clean the drain hole and the connect-
ing drain hose, if used.
i ...............
TROUBLESHOOTING
IF DEHUMIDIFIER STOPS RUNNING.

2_ Check the power supply to be sure the outlet
works. Plug in a lamp_3_ Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.
Never overload a circuit
4. Check water bucket to see if it is installed prop-
erly or needs emptying_IF IT RUNS BUT DOESN'T DEHUMIDIFY
Unit may be in defrost cycle due to frost build-upon coil. Unit will restart as soon as frost is melted
off and temperature rises above 55°F
IF DEHUMIDIFIER STILL DOES NOT RUN RIGHT.
