Today’s adventure takes us into the small beach city in Ventura County’s Oxnard area called Port Hueneme. You will arrive by 9:45 a.m. at the Port Hueneme base for a tour of the Sea-bee Museum. The museum features present models of equipment and the battle scenes, weapons, uniforms, and arts & crafts by and about the U.S. Na-vy Civil Engineer Corps and Seabees. After our visit we drive into Oxnard for lunch at the Whale’s Tail Seafood House. You will have a choice of 3 en-trees (to be announced). All meals come with a garden salad, fresh bread, a non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. Our last stop today will be in Camarillo at the WWII Aviation Museum, admis-sion included. Among the vintage air-craft on display include: B-52, a Navy F5F Hellcat, a Japanese Zero, and a British Spitfire. This is a docent led tour by a retired military officer.

We will begin our day today with lunch at Sherman’s Deli. You’ll have a choice of a 1/2 of corned beef, pastra-mi, ham, turkey, brisket, egg salad, chopped liver, tuna salad, roast beef, or salami sandwich with a soup choice and non-alcoholic beverage. Then off to the old Camelot Theatre for a 1:30 p.m. matinee performance of “Gone But Not Forgotten” a musical tribute to Roy Orbinson, the Everly Brothers, Ricky Nelson & Patsy Cline. This is a 90 minute live performance. Bring a light jacket and wear comfortable shoes!
At 9:30 a.m. our step on guide will meet us at Olvera Street. We will then venture off to some of L.A.’s favorite hot spots and hidden chocolate treas-ures. A visit to a Mexican coffee house for Mexican hot chocolate & chocolate churros! Our journey continues to an amazing shop for soda pop and old time chocolates. A visit to a Ukrainian chocolate maker and sample some de-licious chocolates. Lunch is at the San Antonio Winery. You’ll have a choice of entrées to choose from upon arrival (this is cafeteria style).
Afterward we will visit a monastery where the Sisters make handmade chocolates. Next, we will visit where Mr. Willy Wonka opened his very first inventing room with a magical store window and rainbow colored candy made live. Lots of fun surprises for your taste buds.
At 8:00 am we will arrive at the Los Angeles Flower District, the premier flower mart resource for flowers grow-ers, shippers, and floral designers. Lots of time on your own for shopping before arriving at the famous Phillipe’s for lunch. After lunch, we will visit Dodger Stadium for a tour of the facili-ty. Please wear comfortable shoes!

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Antonia Cerda has been coming to our center for many years. An-tonia helps us on soup days and serves our guests their bowl of soup. After lunch she graciously helps with clearing the tables.
Antonia has many friends here because she is very friendly and so-cial. She likes parties, and whenever she has one you can be sure she will be singing her favorite mariachi music. Antonia is always
so nicely dressed and is ready for all the different functions we have going on at the Senior Center. She takes pride in her cooking

These meetings offer both preventative and important information on this controllable disease. This is a good time to ask any questions that you
might have.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom course, designed especially for drivers ages 50 and older. However, the course is open to licensed drivers of all ages. Course com-pletion helps older drivers refine existing skills and develop safe driving strategies in today’s challenging driving environment. There are no tests required. You may also be able to receive a premium discount from your auto insurance company, after completing the AARP safety driving course. Pre-registration is required. Please register at the senior center front desk.

Gabe is a Bone Builders instructor and has been for at least 5 years. Bone Builders helps our seniors with their physical
strength by lifting weights appropriate for their age. She is always full of spirit and spunk and leads a fun exercise group. She has
been a dedicated and responsible volunteer. In her spare time she has a group of Polynesian dancers “Wicky Wacky Wahines” and they perform at different functions and at our annual Luau in the summer. Gabe is a friendly, likeable and talented lady that we
feel so lucky to know! Thanks, Gabe, for all you do.

If you make a reservation for a Monday, be sure to check in before 11:15 or you will forfeit your lunch reservation. All adults 60 years and older and their spouses are welcome to have lunch. The suggested donation is $2.00 per meal. Guests 50-59 years shall pay $3.00 per meal. This program is funded in part through Title III of the Older Americans Act as amended by the County of Los Angeles Area Agency on Aging. All meals are served with milk, bread and margarine.
