Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan. It is located on the Absheron peninsula, the “head” of the Azerbaijani eagle, in a bay at the Caspian Sea. It is the largest city of Azerbaijan as well as of the South Caucasus and the political, economic and cultural center of Azerbaijan
Freedom Square
Baku Boulevard (also known as National Park) is a
promenade established in 1909 which runs parallel to
Baku's seafront. Its history goes back more than 100 years, to a time when Baku oil barons built their mansions along the
Caspian shore and when the seafront was artificially built
up inch by inch.
The park is about 3 km and 750 m in size and located in south coast of the Caspian
Sea.It starts at the National Flag

The project on expansion of the Baku boulevard aims at creating more comfortable conditions for the residents of the capital city and the guests to have a rest and
take sports in more comfortable conditions at
the Caspian seashore. Before the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 the boulevard
was extended to the National Flag Square

In 1865, a part of the inner city walls overlooking the sea was demolished, and the stones were sold and used in the
building of the Outer city. The money obtained from this sale (44 000 rubles) went into the
construction of the Baku Boulevard.

In 2010, a multi-story shopping mall Park Bulvar, Baku Business Centre and 5D cinema were opened in this promenade as part of
Government's regeneration policy to boost shopping
and leisure in Baku

Hilton Hotel and the Government House of Baku in Freedom Square
The square, formerly named Lenin Square after Vladimir Lenin, was created in the 1960–70s, after construction of the Government House of Baku was finished in 1952 and a monument to Lenin was erected in front of it in 1955

encircling the square, which
were later demolished
and replaced with Hilton

The Lenin monument sculpted by D. M. Garyaghdi was removed in early 1990s. The square was then also renamed in 1991 to Azadliq Square (Freedom Square) after collapse of Soviet Union
