WELCOME!WELCOME!
We would like to welcome you to the annual Axtell Cattle Company Bull and Female sale.
We feel that the offering is deep in quality for both calving ease and performance bulls. The heifers are also very good this year.
We were blessed with good rains and grass last fall so we left the calves on the cows longer to utilize our summer pastures. We start the bulls slow and gradually build up their ration. The bulls are looking real good and they are hitting their stride!
Be sure to check out videos of all the sale bulls and heifers online at DVAuction.com. Keep in mind that they will have matured another month and will be nearly 100 pounds big-ger at sale time.
We invite you to stop by anytime to see the bulls and heifers, our herd sires or our cow-herd. Just call to set up a time and get directions. The sale offering will also be available for viewing at the sale location on the afternoon of March 24th.
We look forward to seeing you sale day but if you are unable to attend and wish to bid just contact us, the sale representatives or preregister at DVAuction.com a couple of days ahead of the sale. You are able to bid live on DVAuction or leave proxy bids on lots you may be interested in. I have used proxy bids before and it works well—you just input a maximum bid you’d be willing to pay and the computer will bid for you up to that amount.
Please let us know if we can be of any assistance to you in the buying process. We love to talk about cattle and would be glad to visit with you anytime. Also be sure to follow our facebook page and website for more sale details. Hope to see you March 25th.

Legend was the high selling bull at the 2013 Choat/Arrowsmith Sale in Nebraska. He is moderate, deep bodied and an easy calving bull. We’ve been impressed with his calves. He is completely unrelated to anything we’ve used in the past.
Cody had a great disposition, a good, big foot, extra depth and length of body. He passed on performance to his calves as well as extra fleshing ability. He consistently had good calves, very few poor calves out of this sire. He is one of the better bulls we’ve owned.

Lot 3 is a calving ease deluxe bull with a great hip, moderate frame, good length and deep body. He is the kind that we strive to produce. He is backed by a first calf heifer that bred back early and will calve in less than 365 days while raising a top calf. Calving ease is evident all through his pedigree and he is out of our Syringa line of cows that are top notch. The sire, Emperor, is leaving outstanding daughters and his dam is also an excellent cow.

Lot 2 is a maternal brother to reference sire Axtell Epic 1011 and a bull we bought from Beckton, Beckton Julian W354. We think a lot of his dam and have infused her into our herd more through her sons. This bull had an actual weaning weight of 762 out of a ten year old cow. He will add middle, good dispositions and make outstanding daughters. He can be used on heifers and is plenty good enough to use on all the cows as well.

Lot 1 leads off the sale and is the first son of Choat Legend, the high selling bull at the 2013 Choat/Arrowsmith sale in Nebraska. His dam has an unreal 110 MPPA and does it while breeding back on time every year. This calf is very much like his sire. Deep bodied, good doing and dark red. This bull should make outstanding females in any environment.

Lot 5 is backed by our top cow, 616. She is built like a tank, raises top calves and has a flawless udder and feet. I cannot find a fault in her. She was also the Grand Dam of the top selling bull last spring. Lot 5 adds our Cody bull and has good calving ease and performance. Lot 5 is stretchy, has a little more frame and has been a standout since birth. Use him with confidence on heifers or cows. Both the sire and dam are as easy going as you can make them.
Lot 4 is one of the top gainers. He really came on this winter and has developed into one of the most powerful bulls in the sale. He will add muscle, performance and make excellent females. His dam goes back to our original Red Angus cow and the udder quality and mothering ability is fantastic in these cattle. Herd bull quality bull here.

4870 is out of a top producing cow that goes back to the high selling cow in the Lonker Dispersal. The dam is a little bigger, perfect uddered, long and an excellent cow. 4870 ranks in the top of the breed for the new Herd Builder EPD to produce females. His sire, Dominor, did us a lot of good and is a maternal brother to Nebula P707. This might be his best son.

Lot 7 is a thick made calving ease bull that really took off this winter. The Legend x Forster Gold cattle seem to click. This bull is thick and soggy and will be a great bull to start on heifers and graduate him to the cows. His dam is a top producer for us and goes back to our Syringa line.

Here’s a heifer bull with some thickness and the second lowest birthweight in the offering. His dam produced the top selling bull last year, going to Schuman Red Angus in California. The grand dam is our top cow and dam of the Lot 5 bull. The dam of this bull is very moderate and a copy of her mother in a little smaller package. He is also a double bred Dominor bull.
A -6.7 BW EPD bull with good growth. This bull is full of calving ease genetics with Legend, 26L and Above and Beyond. He’s got respectable performance and a good moderate dam. You should be able to sleep well when calving your heifers with this bull.
Lot 16 is a heifer bull starting at 75 lbs. and getting to 723 lbs. at weaning. We won the NE Colo. Bull Test twice with full brothers to his dam. This bull has more growth than his EPD’s indicate and is backed by a Gambler daughter that has done very well for us.

4518 will add performance and frame while remaining thick made with good depth of body. His dam has produced three prior sale bulls with all going to 7Y Ranch and Aaron Brown of Cope, CO. There is more performance in this bull than a 79 YW EPD. There is plenty grow in this bull.
A ¾ brother to Lot 16. He is long bodied with good muscle and depth of body. His dam is a typical Gambler daughter that has done a great job here with a perfect udder. This deep bodied bull will make excellent females and packs good performance as well.
Here’s a heifer bull that had a 700 lbs. + weaning weight and ratioed 110. His dam is a very moderate framed, easy fleshing cow from our Lana cow family. He will be a good calving ease bull that will still give you some performance.

Another heifer bull that grew out well. He has a little more frame than a 5 with the eye test. His dam is a small framed first calf heifer out of our 616 cow, who is the dam of Lot 5. This bull has good thickness and growth. His sire has done a real good job for us, we used him on heifers for years and never pulled one plus his calves have a good amount of growth in them and his daughters have excellent udders. Keep the daughters from this bull.

Here’s a blast from the past. This bull is a heifer bull with great weaning weights and more bone. His sire was born in 1989 and is the foundation of the Hi Ho line of cattle as well as being from the same line as the Hobo cattle. The High Ho cattle have been known for REA, calving ease and making good females. We think he will do all three.
Here is the heifer bull for the person that likes to sleep at night. The dam is -9.1 BW, averages 62 lbs. at birth for an 82 ratio. This bull ranks in the top 1% for Herd Builder, will moderate frame and add depth of body. He is also in the top 1% for BW and CED. He should produce good females that stay in the herd for a long time. Ethan Durham from Rush, CO got a brother last year.
Lot 30 shows a lot of breed character and is deep bodied, easy fleshing and thick. He’s got growth and will make excellent daughters. His dam is a top young cow and the grand dam is one of our best cows as well. If you want big barreled, efficient cows that last, this is one to look at.
4965 is a heifer bull with good feet and many good cows in his pedigree. His dam is a real good cow that is moderate and wide. I think this bull will make a nice heifer bull that will also produce good females.
A huge thank you to all the crew at Sterling Livestock Commission!
This bull is a maternal brother to our Lot 1 bull last year that sold to Kyle Schultz of St. Francis, KS. This bull was herd average at weaning, but blew the doors off on test. He will add thickness, fleshing ability and growth. He should make good daughters as his dam is one of our better cows.
This bull will improve muscle, feet and will make good females. His dam is a top cow and a maternal brother to this bull sold to K2 Red Angus from Wyoming in last year’s sale. He also offers a little different pedigree than many of our bulls.

Red Angus Heifers We will be bringing the heifers into the ring in groups of
three. You will have the option of purchasing one heifer or all three– your choice. The heifers in this offering are right
out of our replacement heifers. They are not the big, fat heifers like you might see at a show. They are raised on haygrazer hay and a protein tub. This is the way we raise our replacements. They really pop once they are out on summer grass. We feel we can put on a much cheaper
gain by doing it this way. We also feel that over fat heifers have less fertility and milk than heifers that are raised in
this fashion. These heifers are guaranteed to breed. We tried to catch a cross section of our different sires in this offering as well as different types of heifers. We have
some low birth weight, moderate heifers, and we’ve also included some out of the higher end for performance.

Our ProgramOur Program
We purchased our first Registered Red Angus cow in 1993 and started in the Red Angus business in 1997. We started small with purchases from well known herds and over the years we’ve been able to increase our herd through addi-tional purchases at Boot Jack, Milk Creek Reds, Beckton and others. All of the cattle we have bought in the last five years have went back to a base of Boot Jack and Beckton genetics. We have used A.I.; however, our bread and butter has been buying the best bulls we can find and using them in natural service. We are also using more home raised sires in our program. We feel that our herd bulls are as good or better than most A.I. bulls in the industry. Using our home raised bulls is something that has really helped us improve our cow herd. We take a lot of pride in udder quality and mothering ability and knowing the dam of our herd sire is important to us so that we don’t bring in any unwanted traits through the cow side. Our program is focused on convenience traits. We strive for a cow herd that has sound feet, excellent udders and good fleshing ability. We live in short grass country where large pampered cattle will not work. We have found that moderate framed, easy doing cattle are the way to go here. Excessive growth EPD cattle are typically gone very quickly due to our limited feed resources. We breed for the middle and feel that if our EPD’s indicate that we are near the breed average in most traits, then we are doing something right. You will not see many sires used here that are trait leaders at any one trait, yet they will be very competitive at most traits. You will notice a strong Boot Jack influence in our herd. We really like the maternal side of the Boot Jack cattle and feel that the infusion of Beckton genetics have complimented them well. Our Black Angus herd was started in 2003. Through aggres-sive culling, we now have a very sound, functional Angus herd. We used a Cole Creek Black Cedar son this year. He is from a herd that has many of the same focuses as we do. Cattle that will go out and do what cattle are supposed to do with minimal inputs. Our Angus cattle are outcross genetics to most herds. It seems that most herds use the same bulls, ours are different, so if you need some new genetics, they should fit the bill. The dam’s and most of the sires of these bulls are available to be seen at any time. Calving ease is also a focus of our program. We have had very few calving problems in our herd. Clifftop was the high selling bull at the 2014 Beckton Red Angus Sale. He was the heaviest muscled bull at the sale and was wider bodied than just about anything there. His sire produced the high selling bull the previous year as well.
3704 is one of the best bulls we’ve raised. He has performance, bone and is backed by a great sire and dam. His pedigree reads like a who’s who of our top cows. Prominent Angus Breeder, Lee Van Dyke stated that this bulls dam is the best Red Angus cow that he’s seen. SEMEN IS AVAILABLE
