Uniting dynamic leaders with a new generation of innovators
September 16 - 20, 2019
Game-changing innovations in business start with a vision. Black Entrepreneurship Week is about unlocking that potential through sharing knowledge.
Now heading into its third year, Black Entrepreneurship Week 2019 will bring together more than 1,000 people in Downtown Raleigh to focus on the future of of small business leadership in the black community and beyond. Five days of speakers and workshops present sponsors with a unique opportunity to incorporate their brand into this conversation.
Renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump delivered the 2018 conference’s keynote address at Shaw University. Other sessions spotlighted women business owners, access to capital, tech, and non-profits. On the final day of the conference, aspiring entrepreneurs pitched their concepts before a panel of judges for an opportunity to be awarded up to $3,000 to bring their idea to fruition.
Carolina Small Business recognizes that the power of different perspectives within the entrepreneurial community adds value. From its attendees to featured speakers, BEW 2019 will again capitalize on the strength of diversity.
Black Entrepreneurship Week grew out of a partnership between Carolina Small Business and Shaw University, a historically black institution, to create the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center in Downtown Raleigh. Carolina Small Business is a nonprofit community lender that promotes economic development through outreach to underserved communities.
In Southeast Raleigh, access to capital and other resources is a particular challenge marked by high levels of poverty. Comparatively, the area has a median income less than 80% of the city as a whole. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center works to foster entrepreneurship in this community through training, incubation and financial resources.
Those who are accomplished in business teach the strategy behind their success at Black Entrepreneurship Week. Carolina Small Business invites sponsors to be an essential part of this special, once-a-year conference.

Western Women’s Business Conference5TH ANNUAL
Empowering women entrepreneursshaping the economic future of Western North Carolina
More than a conference, this annual event is building a powerful network of emerging leaders. The Western Women’s
Business Conference attracts diverse and engaged participants who are driving economic development.
Many women are able to attend through generous scholarships made possible by socially responsible business sponsors. As a conference partner, you will access more than 250 participants and supporters. Your brand will also get exposure to thousands of local business enthusiasts who will see and hear promotional ads on media outlets such as Mountain Xpress, Oh! Woman, and Hola Carolina, as well as local and regional radio programs prior to the conference.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Build Your Tribe to Build Your Business.” As a sponsor, your organization will be
part of this unique and thought-provoking event that draws together current and future leaders. Your support will play a
key role in helping to strengthen and grow the region’s economy.
The conference is presented by the Western Women’s Business Center, established in 2014 by Carolina Small Business
Development Fund. Its mission is to provide valuable technical assistance, access to capital, and programs that help
traditionally underserved communities overcome barriers – particularly women who face social and economic
disadvantages. The center serves individuals and small businesses in rural and distressed communities in Western North
Carolina and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Since July 2014, the Western Women’s Business Center has served 3,200 clients through group seminars and workshops,
totaling 897 hours of training. It has also provided 447 clients with one-on-one coaching, totaling 805 hours of assistance.
Access to capital has been made possible through 112 Carolins Small Business loans, totaling $7.6 million, which helped
create or retain 340 jobs in the region.
The Western Women’s Business Center collaborates with the Small Business Centers at A-B Tech and Haywood
Community College as well as the Small Business and Technology Development Center at Western Carolina University to
make opportunities like this possible. Your consideration and support of the conference is appreciated.
