First…. Thank you to all Secretaries for submitting or sending me your installation report or submitting the installation into Malta.

It is the job of the Secretary to report changes in any of the officers (President, SVP, JVP, Secretary, Treasurers, 1,2,3 Year Trustee) or change in the time or place of your Meeting to me. Please remember the office of President, Secretary

or Treasurer cannot be a Trustee. If they are the same, Malta will not accept or allow any changes until the correct information is given to me. The Auxiliary can also be put on suspension for failure to supply us with the correct installation information for your District or Auxiliary.

The Department Roster is generated from the information that has been entered into National System by

your Membership Number when you became a member. If any of this information has change, it will also need to be change at in Malta for future Rosters and so that YOU are receiving information from National. The roster is generated for Officers of your Auxiliary, by the installation report that is entered into Malta. Any member can sign on to Malta to view and correct your information. Please check your information in Malta today to make sure it is accurate.

Aloha Sisters & Brothers of Virginia! Aloha has many meanings; not only hello and goodbye, but Love, Home, Peace and Compassion. The word Mahalo means thank you. Hau’oli means happy, joyful and fun. In July we started on a project about Americanism and Connecting with the Community. Did you know that about 85% of the people are looking on their phones or computers for social media? This would be a great place to show your pictures and videos with members and community. Use these to show your activities on special occasions and holidays. Get younger members to get involved and the members to be a part of the project. Every Auxiliary can submit a video. Look on www.vfwauxiliary.org/resources for a submission form promoting Patriotism with Community involvement. Your submission is to come to me; the Department Chairman, before March 31, 2020 and I will send the submission to National Headquarters by April 30, 2020. There are rules for qualification: Video is to be no longer than 1 minute: 30 seconds It should say who we are It should include the VFW Auxiliary logo It should include the Community It should include a link to how to find out more about us. www.vfwuxiliary.org

It should show others what we do for our Veterans/Community It should be visually appealing Production level Each Auxiliary can submit a picture collage of a Family Freedom Event. It must be submitted to the Department by March 31, 2020 and will be sent to National by April 30, 2020. Be proud to be “Serving our Veterans with Aloha” in your collage. The submission form is at www.vfwauxiliary/resources. There are rules for qualification: Photos should be mounted on a cardboard base no larger than 20”x 20” nor smaller than 14” x 14”. Photos should show Americanism involving Community Is it Patriotic? Does it include members? Are the members wearing the “Official Look”? Is the collage visually appealing? How is the overall look of the Collage? Are the Photos relevant? Are the pictures in color? Does the collage include a VFW Auxiliary logo?

Take your Auxiliary out of the meeting place and show “Our Veterans are Tops”. I hope your year is full of hao’oli. Let me know if I can help you! Aloha, Barbara

“Our Veterans are Tops” Good day to everyone!!! I hope you all had a great summer. I can tell from the reports I have been receiving that many of the Auxiliaries have already started promoting Buddy Poppy/National Home. And I Thank You!! Sometimes it is difficult to come up with new promotional ideas. So, here is what I am asking of all the Auxiliaries. Please share with me your promotion for Buddy Poppy/National Home. Did you come up with a unique way to use Buddy Poppies? Explain your promotion and of course a picture is worth a thousand words. One Auxiliary shared with me at a funeral for a Member they had a Buddy Poppy collection can. Of this was with the permission of the family. I would like to share your ideas with others in the Department. Remember we are individual Auxiliaries working together as a team for the success of the program. Now is the time to look at the calendar and planning Buddy Poppy drives. Many Auxiliaries with do the drives along with their Post. Do you work? Ask if you can bring a collection can to work?? I know of an Auxiliary member that was allowed to bring a collection can. Her office has a front desk/receptionist and that is where the can was. Clients coming in made donations. Remember money collected at Buddy Poppy drives is to go into your Auxiliary Relief Fund. Don’t forget our banner requirement of $.25 per member (as of 06/30/2019) for the National Home Health and Happiness Fund. The check is payable to VFW National Auxiliary and mailed to the National Headquarters, Attn: Ann Panteleakos, 406 W 10th St, 10th Floor, Kansas City, MO 64111, earmarked Health and Happiness. The Auxiliary can also make their payment through MALTA. The payment must be paid not later than March 31, 2020. Please let me know when the Auxiliary has paid this so I can mark your Auxiliary as reported. The Auxiliary can also make additional donations paid directly to the National Home. If you do, don’t forget to let me know. Are you a Life Member of the National Home……if not….why not. Information on how to join is available on the National Home website, https://www.vfwnationalhome.org as well as the Department website https://vfwauxva.org. I would love to see Virginia have the newest Life Members this year. I know you can do it!!! I would like to give a big “Thank You” to the Auxiliary and Comrades of District 2. The School of Instruction was held on August10th. I have a National Home house bank which I passed around at our joint meeting and lunch. I am proud to say I collected $159.47. This will be sent to the National Home on behalf of District 2. As always, I am here to assist your Auxiliary any way I can…..do not hesitate to contact me! And keep those reports coming!!!!!

Chief of State/Extension Kathy Birch 304 E Main Street Berryville, VA 22611-1306 [email protected] or [email protected] (540) 955-3311

Begin the VFW Auxiliary Virginia year by helping to establish or reorganize an Auxiliary. Below is a list of Bachelor Posts in Virginia, listed by District as of May 30, 2019:

District 1: 960, 2296, 5500, 8252 District 7: 1860, 2123, 6044 District 2: 1211, 2582 District 8: 7728 District 3: 1426, 8629 District 9: 2719, 9640 District 4: 5313, 7819. 7897, 8446, 8902, 12145 District 10: 5412, 9274 District 5: 873, 7800, 8467, 10840 District 11: 2424, 2216, 3060, 8479, 9339, 10826 District 6: 2157, 4299, 4491, 4522, 5311. 5895 District 12: 5715, 7360, 8979, 4301, 9830, 9864 9877, 12154, 12179 District 13: 2044, 2217, 2613, 10295

Establishing a new Auxiliary benefits not only our organization, but assists the VFW with its mission. In the next two months, I will be sending a letter to each of the Posts listed, with a copy to the District President. I will include information on the positive impact that an Auxiliary would be to their programs and to their membership.

If a VFW Post shows interest in starting a new Auxiliary, the next steps will be: 1. A VFW Post must vote by two-thirds (2/3) majority to have an Auxiliary. 2. The Department President appoints the official organizer, and he or she must be a member of the

VFW Auxiliary. 3. A minimum of fifteen (15) eligible applicants must be on the application for the Charter.

Keeping our Auxiliaries Healthy Virginia is losing Auxiliaries that were unable to elect officers! Unable to hold regular meetings due to a lack of a quorum to transact business! Non-participation in our programs! It is up to every one of us to stop our Department from losing the members of those closed Auxiliaries.

When an Auxiliary close, those members become ‘members at large’. It is important that members in that District get a list of those “homeless” members and contact them as soon as possible. Invite them to one of your monthly meetings and to one of your planned events. Let them know that they are important to you, to our VFW Auxiliary, and to our Veterans.

Include in your letter: the dates of your meetings or special event; a contact person within your Auxiliary to include a telephone number and email address; and, let each of them know they are valued as members of our organization. You only have to ASK!

Historian/Media Relations Program Serving our Veterans with Aloha

Our Veterans are Tops

Brothers and Sisters, Welcome to fall I don’t know about anyone else but I’m very ready for cooler weather, hoodies and changing color leaves. Creating Your Local Fact Sheet – Make it Effective Fact Sheets are a powerful way to communicate the results of your work directly to the public. These concise official publications can be particularly useful in helping readers understand and appreciate your efforts. Fact Sheets also increase public awareness of the VFW Auxiliary and our mission.

An effective Fact Sheet should be a tool in every Auxiliary’s toolbox. Refer to it at a recruiting event, a Family Freedom Festival, or when speaking to the community about your accomplishments.

No matter how well written, a Fact Sheet will not convey its message unless it is picked up and read. An attractively formatted, color Fact Sheet is far more likely to be noticed than a plain-looking black-and-white product. Colorful illustrations, an interesting format and a bold title help capture the viewer’s attention at a quick glance.

The following information should be included:

• Auxiliary President’s name, address, phone number, cell phone number and email address. • Your name, address, phone number, cell phone number and email address. • Total membership. • What your Auxiliary is doing to assist veterans and active-duty service members and their families. • Other local program statistics. • The date of your next upcoming three events for your Auxiliary. Additional Elements of a Good Fact Sheet

• Short, non-technical title • Attention-grabbing introduction • Eye-catching, effective graphics • TEAMWORK—Every phrase in a Fact Sheet must be carefully considered to ensure that it can be clearly understood, cannot be misread and conveys no unintended meanings to the non-VFW Auxiliary reader. REVIEW—Different eyes see different things, so you almost cannot have too many people read and review a Fact Sheet. COLOR! COLOR! COLOR!—Tasteful and effective use of color makes it more likely that the general public will pick up a publication and read it. “SPEAK PLAINLY”—Because Fact Sheets are intended for the public, it must be easily understood by a broad audience.

Page 17: Auxiliary VFW Virginia Communication #1 September 2019 · Auxiliary VFW Virginia Communication #1 September 2019 Message from our State President Marcia Semones 2-3 Secretary, Ellen

17 | P a g e A u x i l i a r y V F W V i r g i n i a C o m m u n i c a t i o n # 1 S e p t e m b e r 2 0 1 9

CONCISENESS—Ask yourself, “Will the public really care about this?” If the answer is “No,” either delete the particular item or, if it is essential to the story, make it relevant. POINT OF CONTACT—So that the interested reader can get more information on the topic presented, a point of contact should be given at the end of your Fact Sheet. Include a telephone number, mailing address, and email and (or) website address. Creating an effective Fact Sheet for the general public may involve many revisions and much teamwork. Every aspect of a Fact Sheet must be carefully considered to ensure that it will be clearly understood by the non-VFW Auxiliary reader. Last but not lest REPORT, REPORT, REPORT!!! I look forward to hearing from you and seeing all the amazing pictures and another information you are sharing with your communities about what our organization does. Don’t forget to send me YOUR THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX ideas.

“Serving our Veterans with Aloha” “Our Veterans are Tops”

Our National President, Peggy Haake, theme is “Serving our Veterans with Aloha” Definition: adj: Friendly, Hospitable and Welcoming. All three describe what the VFW Auxiliary is all about. Every day we bring the aloha spirt to our Veterans. Our Department President, Marcia Semones theme is “Our Veterans are Tops” and yes they are. Through the Hospital program there is so much we can do for our Veterans and to show them they are “Tops” This year the Hospital Program Goals are:

• Volunteer, Recruitment, Recognition and Support • Promote Suicide Prevention, Mental Health Issues and Health Research • Educate the Community on service in the VA and Non-VA Medical Facilities and Health Research

As in the past the Hospital program encourages volunteering at VA and Non-VA medical facilities, planning events or activities and recruiting new volunteers (youth and adults). Please recognize the volunteers by showing your appreciation at a special awards ceremony. There are fillable appreciation certificates available on the www.vfwauxiliary.org. Hospital service hour pins are available for auxiliary members and non-auxiliary volunteers. And don’t forget to nominate an auxiliary member or VAVS Rep or Deputy Rep for Outstanding Hospital Volunteer of the Year. This year, National is offering a Hospital Volunteer recruiter award for recruiting one or more new volunteers. The forms for the service pins, the Volunteer of the Year award and the recruiter award are available at the National website, www.vfwauxiliary.org and on the Department of Virginia website www.vfwvaaux.org. Now is the time to start planning your hospital visits and events. Look at the calendar….be creative; come up with a theme. As in the past, the Hospital Program encourages the promotion of suicide awareness and prevention and of course mental health support.. The following are some resources for suicide awareness and prevention and mental health awareness. Please check out these resources for ideas how your Auxiliary can support and promote.

• Veterans Crisis Line - www.veteranscrisisline.net – The Veterans Crisis Line connects veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring Department of Veteran Affairs responders through a confidential toll-free hotline, online chat, or text. Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, chat online, or send a text message to 838255 to receive confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Support for deaf and hard of hearing individuals is available.

• Department of Veterans Affairs Mental Health and Suicide Prevention www.mentalhealthva.gov/suicide_prevention/resources.asp The health and well-being of our nation’s Veterans and former service members is VA’s highest priority. Guided by data and research, VA is working with partners, Veterans’ family members and friends, and the community to ensure that Veterans and former service members get the right care whenever they need it. To learn about the resources available for Veterans and how you can #BE There as a VA employee, family member, friend, community partner, or clinician.

• Heal Vets – www.healvets.org This organization provides therapeutic craft kits. Founded in 1971, their mission is to provide free therapeutic craft kits to hospitalized and homebound veterans as well as active duty military servicemen and women. HEAL VETS arts and craft kits benefit veterans in several ways. They aid in rehabilitation, designed to restore coordination and impaired motor skills, improve attention spans and concentration, and relieve symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions. Heal Vets rely sole on donations to be able to continue their mission.

An area this year that is being promoted through the Hospital program is VA Office of Research and Development. The mission of VA Research is to improve Veterans' health and well-being via basic, translational, clinical, health services, and rehabilitative research; to apply scientific knowledge to develop effective individualized care solutions for Veterans; to attract, train, and retain the highest-caliber investigators, and nurture their development as leaders in their fields; and to assure a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and the highest regard for research volunteers' safety and privacy. VA Research is unique because of its focus on health issues that affect Veterans. It is part of an integrated health care system with a state-of-the-art electronic health record and has come to be viewed as a model for superior bench-to-bedside research.

• VA Research - https://www.research.va.gov. The mission of VA Research is to improve Veterans’ health and well-being, apply scientific knowledge to develop effective individualized care solutions for Veterans, attach, train and retain the highest-caliber investigators and assure a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability and the highest regard for research volunteer’s safety and privacy.

• PatientsLikeMe - www.patientslikeme.com - With more than 400,000 members, Patientlike is a network that improves lives and a real-time research platform that advances medicine. Patients use the network to track and share their own experiences, and connect with others who have the same disease or condition.

Again this year the Hospital program is promoting the support of the:

• Veterans Voice Writing Project - https://veteransvoices.org. Veterans Voices Writing Project (VVWP) enables military veterans to experience solace and satisfactions through writing. We envision a world where people appreciate that writing can both heal and entertain. The project encourages veterans to express their thoughts and feelings in writing and to send their stories, essays and poems to the VVWP headquarters for potential publication in Veterans’ Voices magazine. The magazine is made possible by ongoing contributions Circulation support to VAMCs is by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. VVWP is available online and we publish a Veterans’ Voices magazine three times a year.

This is the first promotion of the year. In the upcoming promotions I will provide additional resources and information for promotion the Hospital program goals.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me

The Hospital Report form is available on the department website.

And as always…….REPORT…….REPORT…..REPORT!!!

Mentoring for Membership

Betty Gimble 80 Winter Wheat Lane Fredericksburg, VA 22406-4455 Home 540-658-1415 Cell 703-851-5819 Email [email protected]

Dear Brothers and Sisters: This is a new program this year and I am so excited that President Marcia ask me to serve as Chairman. I will be working closely with Chief of Staff Kathy Birch and Membership Chairman Teresa Evans.

Everyone has a fairly similar idea of what a mentor is. It is someone who has taken you under their wing, showed you the ins and outs of the Auxiliary and encouraged you to get involved or just kept you coming back for the wonderful things that the VFW Auxiliary has to offer.

Do you remember being the “new” member and walking into the meeting room for the first time? Try to remember this and then be gentle. There are so many details to know about the VFW Auxiliary. There are rules and there are guidelines and there are suggestions. It’s a lot. Remember the first time you accidently walked when the flags were in motion or talked when the Chaplain was closing the Bible? Remember how embarrassing it was when someone said to you, “Don’t do THAT!” Remember what it felt like, and then be the Someone who gently says, “Let me explain to you why we do it this way”.

When Tom and I moved to Virginia from Texas, we decided to look for a new Post and Auxiliary. We visited one Post and was there for about 45 minutes to an hour and the people just looked at us and no one came over to speech to us. We left and decided to visit another Post. When I joined Auxiliary 1503 in 1994 there were several ladies that made me feel welcome and encouraged me to get involved and showed me the ropes. They got me involved in District 10 and then the Department of Virginia Auxiliary. Through the mentoring of Carol Lilley, Sarah Dugas, Ida McCracken, Virginia Edwards and Patricia Jurgensen, I have served as an Officer and Chairman of Auxiliary 1503, District 10 and Department of Virginia. I have so many fond memories and made so many friends along the way. I am sure many of you have a similar story that you can share.

The hope is that every Auxiliary will start a mentoring program. Sometimes one person can mentor to the new members and sometimes it takes a team of members. You need to catch the new members as they enter the door. You should get to know the members so you can find their passion because there are so many different ways to get involved in the Auxiliary. It is hard getting to know someone at the monthly meetings so maybe the Auxiliary can plan a tea, pot luck dinner or have breakfast to get to know the members. Auxiliary 1503 will be having a monthly breakfast for any member or potential new member to attend so that we can talk and visit.

If you want to grow and become involved, you need to learn all you can with resources available to you.

1. You should have a copy of the National Bylaws and Ritual and read them. Your rights and responsibilities are contained in this podium edition, and you need to know them.

2. You should have a copy of Building on VFW Auxiliary Foundation. Maybe your Auxiliary can break it into sections and discuss them at a meeting.

3. Be sure and read all communications from the Auxiliary, District, Department and National levels.

4. Go to the Auxiliary website and Facebook pages often. Please go to the National website www.vfwauxiliary.org to stay up to date on news and information.

President Marcia wants this year to be a positive year. So, let’s response in a positive manner by using the “yes you can” sentiment. Let’s encourage not discourage our members. By working side by side, we are “Serving our Veterans with Aloha” and showing “Our Veterans Are Tops”.

I look forward to hearing from all of you. Remember - REPORT, REPORT REPORT

Invite, Include and Invest in your Auxiliary’s membership. It will make your Auxiliary stronger and a great working partner with the VFW. Here are some ideas to help YOU plan to achieve your 100% Plus in Membership.

Starting now, INVITE prospective members to attend Auxiliary functions, let them get to know the other members, it’ll help break a “ice” to welcome these prospective members and make them already feel INCLUDED. By the invitation and inclusion, that’s your Investment in your Auxiliary.

• Did you speak with your relatives about joining the Auxiliary at family get-togethers during

the holidays? If not, call or email them and speak with them about your experience being a member of the VFW Auxiliary and ask them to join you as a member!

• Did you speak with Post members about their relatives joining? If not, next time you’re at the Post, ask a Post member if their family members are members of the Auxiliary. If they’re not, give the Post member some applications and encourage them to sign up their relatives. Offer to contact the Post members’ relatives on their behalf.

• Did you speak with a friend or coworker about joining the Auxiliary? If so, it’s time to follow up and collect their membership forms so they can be turned into your Auxiliary. If not, there’s no time like the present to ask them to join you as a member!

See who you know that may be eligible to join our great organization

President’s Special Project

VFW Virginia Service Officer Program Bob DeChamplain 7417 Wildwood Dr. Norfolk, VA 23518 Cell: 757-506-2326 Email: [email protected]

The VFW Service Officer Program is a small group of dedicated men and women that do the paperwork, give advice, make the arguments for veterans to get their benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA). This includes health care, compensation for health issues, home loans, education, life insurance, and much more. The program represents veterans at all levels of the VA including any appeals needed. The Service Officers also represent widows and dependents. Through the efforts of the staff, over 1,500 claims were filed where the veterans received benefits worth $27,324,695.

The Program

The Service Officer Program in the Department of Virginia is composed of four accredited staffers and a secretary. The staff has offices in Hopewell, Staunton, Dale City, Norfolk.

Veterans Compensation is covered by Title 38 of the U.S.Code. This law is over 1200 pages that define what a veteran and the VA must do to ensure a disabled veteran and/or the dependent/widow/widower is afforded the benefits provided for by law. Our service officers spend hours with this manual to properly represent veterans. Additionally, there are over 135 forms that service officers must be familiar with to properly represent our veterans and dependents. What We Have Done Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to help the Department Service Officer Program. As of August 10th we have raised $650.00. Thank you to the Auxiliaries reported; 392, 609, 1994, 2894 and 6975.

S C H O L A R S H I P S CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Our National Auxiliary has a wonderful program called Continuing Education Scholarship. Our goal is to increase the number of applications that National receives this year. This is a scholarship that only an Auxiliary member or their spouse, son or daughter can participate in. The entrant needs to submit an application along with a 300 word or less essay. It needs to be at the National Headquarters by February 15, 2020. One winner from each of the four conferences will be awarded $1,000 to help further their education.

At your meetings, share this information with your members. This is an item that you can report on. Share it with your emails to members or by Post/Auxiliary newsletter. Can you think of a better way than “Serving Our Veterans With Aloha”?

For more information, visit the VFW Auxiliary website: www.vfwauxiliary.org

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AUDIO/ESSAY CONTEST

and PATRIOT’S PEN ESSAY CONTEST

What better way to show “Our Veterans Are Tops” than by helping your Post in participating and promoting the VFW Programs.

If your Post has not already done so, schedule a meeting with the Chairman and set up a date that suits you both to go to the schools and distribute information on the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy programs. Remember to include home schooled students along with other groups and individuals. Emphasize the rules of the contests and make sure they understand it must be to the Post by midnight on October 31st. Be sure to include your contact information such as names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Another way to promote these VFW Programs is through your local media along with your own Post newsletter.

Both programs have the same theme this year, “What Makes America Great”. It should be interesting to see what the two different age groups will write about.

The Post judging needs to be completed by November 15th on both programs so the Post will need to plan for judges. Always have an odd number of judges so there won’t be a tie. Look for people in your community such as local media personnel, teachers, legislators, administrators or anyone who qualifies to judge the entries based on the contest rules.

For more information visit the VFW website: www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education

Veterans & Family Support “Serving our Veterans with Aloha”

It is hard to believe that summer is once again coming to an end! Time to start sending in those reports. I have received several reports and I encourage you all to keep them coming!

Veterans and their families need our support, let the veterans in your area know about the National Veterans Service. The “NVS” helps veterans nationwide and their families to obtain the benefits they deserve at no cost.

Please consider a donation to the “NVS”: online at www.vfw.org/ways-to-help, select National Veterans Service.

Or mail a check to: VFW National Headquarters, attention, NVS, 406 W. 34th St., 11th Floor, Kansas City, MO 64111.

Do you know about the Military Assistance Program? It helps VFW and Auxiliary members give to their local military units. Posts, Auxiliaries and Districts can apply for funds to assist with sponsoring morale-boosting send-offs, homecomings and casual get-togethers for local military units. Posts and Auxiliaries participating in Adopt-a-Unit and Family Readiness group events can also receive assistance.

For guidelines to apply for MAP funds please contact the VFW Veterans and Military Support office at 816-756-3390.

Brothers and Sisters to learn more about the Veterans and Family Support program please go to the VFW Auxiliary national website, there is information about awards and other programs such as the “Unmet Needs” and “Sport Clips” program.

Do any of you have a unique idea of how to promote our program? Please send it to me, you may see it in an upcoming promotion of Veterans and Family Support.

If any of you provide direct-aid to a veteran/active-duty service member or their families, please send me a report. Give someone a ride to an appointment? Send me a report, along with any associated costs such as gas, meals, or donations.

Thank you for your time and dedication to our Veterans, their families and our Active-Duty service members.

Labor Day weekend has come and gone. The summer is officially over and that means…. Back to School season is upon us. The perfect time to reach out to your local Youth and get them involved in Patriotism and giving back to Veterans and their communities. Each communication, I will highlight different focuses within Youth Activities and a different challenge for your Auxiliaries to win prizes at the end of the year! Let’s make this fun!

This month I am focusing on Patriotism thorough Literacy. What a perfect time to contribute, promote and support youth with books that teach them about our nation’s history, patriotism, and being a good citizen.

Here are some ways you can involve your Auxiliary in this amazing program: • If you are having a back to school drive at your Auxiliary also collect patriotic books for all ages

and donate them to your local school, library, youth group.

• Volunteer at a local school to read a book about the history of the National Anthem, hand out flags, and have everyone sing the National Anthem together. Then, you can hand out RAP coins to every participant!

o Q-How many reports is that? o A-2! Youth Activities, Americanism- Don’t forget to count how many coins and flags you

hand out!

• Invite a Youth Group to one of your Auxiliary’s picnics and ask them to read one of their favorite patriotic stories to the crowd. Or invite a Veteran to share a favorite book with the crowd.

What are some other ways you can come up with? I can’t wait to see them in your future reports!

Any Auxiliary who participates in Patriotism thorough Literacy will be entered into a drawing for a prize to be awarded at June Convention. You can be entered into the drawing multiple times by multiple reports around Patriotism thorough Literacy. I am thankful to already have received some reports, keep them coming and please share photos with your reports if you have them. Your photo might just make it into upcoming communication.
