What’s your view? Our whole school project this term will celebrate cultural identity – The future is us. ALL steam curriculum projects will culminate in the Camden STEAM Hub exhibition and celebration of 500 Years since death of Leonardo Da Vinci # A Mind in Motion

learning into action in our community and beyond. We will also continue to learn about the 17 Global Goals, which aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequalities and fix climate change. Our aim is for our children to develop learner competencies set out in our values framework. This focuses on exploring who we are; how we learn independently; how we learn collectively and encourages everyone to be a changemaker. We want the children to learn to believe in themselves, their potential and their abilities to solve problems. World’s Largest Lesson 2018 will be centered on these aims. In the Autumn Term we will take part in Ada Lovelace Day, promoting women in STEM and challenging stereotypes around careers. The children will ask questions and think about the importance of valuing everyone’s ideas, skills and promoting curiosity and enquiry in the new science lab. Stimulus: World’s Largest Lesson 2018 Quaker event on peace for Remembrance ceremony Human Rights Day 2018 – 70th anniversary Universal Declaration of Human Rights Careers – Ada Lovelace Day, Artist in Residence Partnerships: CLC World’s Largest Lesson Torriano Village radio project Photographer’s Gallery Outcome: Project: Whole school World War 1 project. In year 2 we focussed on the people involved and how their lives were affected by the conflict. Relating it modern day issues and themselves.

STEAM: The Future of Food Partnerships: Greenpeace, Rubies (food waste company), Natural History Museum, Royal Maritime Museum, This is Rubbish, Young Engineers, Jack the artist Stimulus: Greenpeace talk on deforestation for Palm Oil and Shelter building to highlight basic needs. Outcome: Future of Food STEAM Feast In the Spring Term we will be looking at speeches that changed the world, both through literature and social & cultural history (past, present and future- WSD) Examples: Martin Luther King, Obama, Rosa Parks, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Prince Ea (‘Dear Future Generations’), Winston Churchill, Malala, Michelle Obama, Sojourner Truth, Marc Anthony (Shakespeare), Emmeline Pankhurst, In the Spring Term we will also celebrate World Book Day where we will be studying Shakespeare’s contribution to literature and performing arts. Martin Luther King Day 21st January Studying speech used in a variety of means for different purposes and contexts, e.g monologue, speech, address, lecture, oration, maiden speeches Partnerships: Shakespeare in residence Shakespeare Birthplace Trust London Hub School 21 Stratford Outcome: World Speech Day- children will be delivering speeches on ‘ soap boxes’. Context will be global themes such as climate action, gender equality, reduced inequalities, no poverty, peace and justice.

Autumn 1: Materials Autumn 2: Materials Across the term children will learn about identifying and naming different materials and their properties. They will also learn how materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Spring 1:STEAM: The Future of Food During the STEAM project the children will focus on their ‘Animals, including humans’ and ‘Living things’ objectives. Looking at a living things’ basic needs, the impact our food choices have on our body and the planet, identifying and creating food chains, knowing different sources of food and how we can sustain a healthy diet now and in the future in the current system/environment. Spring 2: Living things and their habitats Children learn about animal adaptation to suit their environment, compare things that are, living, dead or never alive.

Year 2 will work with Torriano’s music specialist to learn a variety of songs linked to the curriculum. They will perform these songs to parents and carers in a Live Lesson and record one to appear on the school website. The children will practice singing in rounds, learning different parts. Year 2 are working with the music specialist to create a soundscape to accompany our STEAM project. We are creating the music and lyrics. The outcome will be recorded as a class. SKILLS Using percussion to develop rhythmic patterns, ensemble work, pulse beats, layered on top of multi-track spoken work on food sustainability.
