TEACHER’S ACCOMPANIMENTS

FIVE TEACHING IDEAS

1. Without referring to the notation teach the song to your pupil so that s/he becomes confident enough to sing it whilst you play the accompaniment.

2. By listening only, encourage your pupil to work out how many phrases the song has. Ask questions to help them build up an aural image of the pitch: ‘which phrase moves down by step?’

3. Depending on the student level get them to play it by ear, or by rote or from the notation.

4. Bring the song to life by using descriptive words to bring out the character of the song

5. Can your pupil work out the song in different keys e.g. G and F major.
