Automatic Glass Wall
Rooms often have to be subdivided on demand – orat certain specified times.Partitions may thus berequired on some days andnot on others. Whatever therequirement, the DORMAHüppe Varitrans-EM range ofautomatic glass walls offersall the flexibility required, combined with the trans-parency and indisputable elegance of a fully glazedsystem.
Unbeatable adaptabilityComprising individually travelling glass elements, theDORMA Hüppe Varitrans-EMautomatic glass wall can be adapted to virtually anyconceivable layout andarchitectural concept. Theelements are available inseveral standard designs butcan also be supplied custom-ised with everything fromplain safety glass to artisticadornments. The stackingsystems for accommodatingthe elements when the partition is retracted arearranged in accordance withthe local conditions anddesigned so that the stackedelements only take up aminimum of space. Suitablyprepared manual systemscan also be retrofitted at a later date for automaticoperation.
Extensive functionality Beyond automatic openingand closing of the slidingelements, the parameter-isable processor controlsystem of the DORMAHüppe Varitrans-EM systemcan also be programmed tocreate a variable partial opening and for personnelaccess when the automaticglass wall is closed.Needless to say, the elementscan also be easily and safelymoved manually, e.g. forfloor cleaning. When theoperator system is switchedon, the elements are auto-matically sequenced forsmoothly concatenated operation. The system canaccommodate elementweights up to 250 kg. Thereis no minimum weight limit.

Tailoring space the automaticway – with Variflex-EM
Rooms often have to be subdivided on demand – orat certain specified times.Partitions may thus berequired on some days andnot on others. Whatever therequirement, the DORMAHüppe Variflex-EM range ofmovable walls offers all theflexibility required. At the press of a button, theindividual elements travelautomatically from theirstacking area to the closedposition. Once in place, the elements also seal them-selves laterally and to thefloor and ceiling without any further user intervention. The sound insulation systemis designed also to prevent
noise transmission via theoperator installed in the ceiling. The elements areavailable in several standarddesigns but can also be supplied in customised surface finishes. The systemcan accommodate elementweights up to 400 kg. Thereis no minimum weight limit. These movable walls withtheir noise-deadening elements are also designedso that they can be initiallyinstalled as a manual system.By preparing the electricalcomponents accordingly, theoperator can be subsequentlyretrofitted for automaticoperation with the necessarymotors and control system.

Fully AutomaticMovable Wall
DORMA HüppeVaritrans-EM
Automatic Glass Wall
Fully automatic opening and closing glass wall comprising individuallytravelling slide elements suspended from a ceiling-mounted track railsystem. Toughened safety glass (TSG) or laminated safety glass (LSG).Multi-fastener clamp-type profiles/glazing rails along the horizontaland, optionally, the vertical edges. The horizontal profiles/glazing railsare covered with highly wear-resistant aluminium sections. Aluminiumprofiles and sections finished in RAL standard colours. Floor rail forbottom guidance of sliding elements. Simple manual operation possiblein the event of power failure. Automatic electronic self-monitoring of all control functions to ensure high system availability. System halts on contact with an obstruction (per German code ZH 1/494). Valid TÜVand GS test certificates covering complete system to DIN 31000 canbe provided.
Electric drive and control systemThe entire opening and closing cycle of the glass partition includingparking/stacking of the elements is performed by electric drive units. The elements are individually operated and electronically controlledirrespective of the operator length. Power transmission is effected via a toothed belt installed in the track rail, with electrical supply via a two-pole busbar system. The partition elements stop on contact with anobstacle, maximum collision force 150 N (per German code ZH 1/494).Travel speed adjustable between 80 and 160 mm/s. Travel to the endposition takes place at reduced speed. Operation via bus systems or remote control is possible. The individual elements can be manuallymoved and, in the automatic mode, they can be activated from anyposition. Optionally available with emergency control unit.
Operator controlOperation of the elements, the stacking system, the partial opening, interspacing and personnel opening functions (with or without automaticclosing) are all controlled via a program switch. A parameterisable processor control system is included for controlling and monitoring themotion sequence and the position of the elements. The operator controlpanel with display contains the functions “Open – Stop – Close” andalso the functions required for personnel access and partial opening. Itboth indicates the operating status and performs diagnostic functions. The panel is self-explanatory and enables parameter setting by the user. The track rail is enclosed by a cover. A manual operating mechanism isprovided to ensure that the closed partition system can be opened andactuated at all times (e.g. in the event of a power failure).
Installation of the control cablingInstallation of the control cabling and also the wiring-up of the centralcontrol unit and the operator control panel are all included in the scopeof supply. Installation of the connecting cable leading to the centralcontrol unit shall be by others. All electrical work is performed on thebasis of client-approved circuit diagrams. All components of the electri-cally operated partition correspond as standard to the relevant codes ofpractice issued by the VDE (Association of German Engineers). The following design criteria are regarded as mandatory to ensure disruption-free operation and long service life:
Safety In the event of contact with an obstruction in the partition axis, thepressure/pinch force must not exceed 150 N (per German code ZH 1/494). The elements must automatically stop on contact with anobstruction or when encountering similar resistance.
Floor and ceiling seals Draft exclusion at the floor and ceiling is provided by adjustable brush seals.
Horizontal element locking The last element in each case is locked and secured against unauthorisedactuation. Tool-less manual unlocking mechanisms are provided foremergency operation.
Element hanger arrangementEach element is suspended at two points from a ceiling track rail:Varitrans-EM 180: Anodised aluminium track rail, plastic track rollersVaritrans-EM 250: Chromium-nickel steel track rail, hardened steel rollers
Floor guide rail The individual elements are guided at the bottom by a recessed floorrail supplied as part of the system. The maximum inside width of thefloor rail is 8 mm.
Parking/stacking systemVarious parking/stacking systems are possible, and these can be eitherconcealed or visible. An automatic niche concealment flap is available.
Installing the track rail The track rail systems are fixed by means of adjustable steel suspensionassemblies. Installation requires the presence or provision by others of structurally sound, load-bearing components (e.g. steel structure, concrete structure, etc.). The suspension assemblies are included aspart of the standard equipment. They offer sufficient adjustability inorder to allow for floor and ceiling irregularities. All relevant materialsare provided with a corrosion inhibitor. The partition systems and alsothe track rail constructions and suspension assemblies are classed as“simple steel components” as defined in DIN 4100. A copy of theassociated welding qualification certificate is available on request. The joints with the ceiling are sealed with a permanently elasticmastic. The above-mentioned substructures and seals/closures areincluded in the unit prices.
TÜV and GS testing to DIN 31000The partition system satisfies the requirements of German code ofpractice ZH 1/494 and EN 12650. A valid TÜV and GS certificate(system tested and approved to DIN 31000) can be provided as proofof user and operational safety. System manufactured on the basis of aquality management system registered to DIN EN ISO 9001.
